Daredevil around mom but not dad

Hey all,

This has been getting me down lately and I feel like a not so great mom. My husband watches our 15m daughter during the day as he works from home. When I get home from work around dinner time he leaves and doesn't come home until late in the evening. For the most part everything goes well while I am watching our daughter but when he comes home I feel like my daughter decides to be a professional daredevil and starts doing all kinds of risky behaviors. Sometimes she trips and begins crying, when this happens my husband is convinced that I am mistreating our child. He says that she never cries as much as she does when he has her during the day.

I just feel like she goes all carefree only with me and as a result o look like the neglectful parent.  Has anyone else experienced this? BTW this is our first child.

Re: Daredevil around mom but not dad

  • It's totally normal and expected for kids to be cranky in the evenings, and I'd expect any child to cry more in the evening. They're tired, easily dysregulated, and ready for the long sleep of the night. The way you're describing things, it sounds like a day/night difference rather than Mom/Dad. What is you switch roles on weekends or holidays, with you doing daytime care and Dad doing evening?

I'll try that, but most weekends I am with her exclusively. But I think it might be a day/night thing because I don't have that issue as much during the day on the weekends
