Stresssed about second hand smoke

Hi, I'm 10 weeks pregnant with first baby. I live in France where people smoke pretty heavily. I was out for a coffee with a friend today on a bar terrace outside and a lot of people were smoking including my friend. We were there for about an hour and a half then I left because the wind went away and the smoke was starting to bother me. I'm now stressing out about the effects of the smoke on my baby, everything I'm reading online is pretty terrifying. I definitely won't be sitting outside at any bars again but I'm wondering if anybody has any information on how harmful one-time exposure to smoke can be? I've managed to steer clear of any smoke before today and definitely won't be putting myself in that situation again.

Re: Stresssed about second hand smoke

  • Best to talk to your doctor, but one instance is probably not going to harm baby.

  • You were outside, it was not concentrated as it would be inside.  The one time instance probably is nothing.  Google is the WORST for medical advice.  Talk to your doctor if you are stressed over it.

  • Thank you for the reassurance :). I'll mention it to my midwife next week. And you're right, probably best not to look on Google first!!
