2nd Trimester

Bleeding and cramping 14 weeks

Hi all,
I went to ER yesterday for some period like bleeding and cramping. They did hcg and it was 80000 and ultrasound found heartbeat and fetal movement. Dr said it could be normal pregnancy bleeding or a sign of impending miscarriage. Has anyone had something similar? I am a mess and basically was told only time will tell but baby looks good for now.

Re: Bleeding and cramping 14 weeks

  • Hey ,
Don't worry . Same thing happened to me at 19th week . I was told my placenta was low lying. I was given progestrone injection and some vaginal inserts too to stop the bleeding .

  • Follow up. I went back to the ER 3 days later and they did a repeat hcg which had fallen slightly. Said that could be normal as I’m further along or could be a sign of miscarriage. They did a repeat ultrasound and found a good heartbeat and fetal movement but also found a small Subchorionic Hemorrhage. Anyone experience this?
  • The subchronic hematoma is probably where the bleeding is coming from.
  • Any thoughts on the hcg dropping? It was 80000 on Tues and 75000 on Friday
  • My sister had this and now has a super chunky, happy baby boy. Sounds like your placenta is taking some responsibilities over (producing progesterone) so less hcg would make sense since your body no longer needs the ovaries to produce as much progesterone to convince your uterus not to expel a perfectly fine baby.
  • I’m 23 weeks and experience bleeding every once in a while. Whenever I go to my checkups the baby is fine and still feel good movement. Not sure why I’m bleeding though
  • I'm also in my 14th week and had bleeding starting last Sunday and intermittently until now (1 week later). I'm terrified and unsure if the stress is making it worse. My OBGYN checked my cervix and said it was closed and hard to touch (a good thing according to her), baby has a steady heartbeat and is very active during the pelvic ultrasound. Taking Progesterone suppositories and Isoxsuprine for a week now, my fingers are crossed for my ultrasound next week.
  • How did everything go with the subchorionic hemorrhage?  I had/have same thing. I am now 19 weeks pregnant and hope that everything is okay. I find myself stressing more during this pregnancy than previous ones.

  • I have had spotting(bright red, pink and brown) off and on since 11 weeks. I’m currently 15. Everytime I’ve gone to get it checked everything has been perfect. Not one doctor mentioned anything about the possibility of a miscarriage. In fact my OB said the chance of having a miscarriage even with the spotting is incredibly low. My cervix is measuring 3.5cm and no blood collections have been seen. The only thing they found at first was some cervical irritation which they think could possibly be the cause. Both my OB and MFM said they are not concerned unless I start to bleed more like a period. Having some show when I wipe is apparently nothing of concern to them. I would of course love a definitive answer as to why my body insists on spotting but I’ve come to recognize it may just be normal for me and my docs have also prepared me in saying that they are expecting this to be the norm for me and have said some women just spot/bleed in their pregnancies with little to no reason being found as to why. I always thought it was incredibly reckless for ER docs to tell women they had a threatened miscarriage just because they had some spotting. To me a true threat would be something related to cervical insufficiency or something like that. That’s why my MFM doc specifically told me NOT to go to the ER for spotting or bleeding unless I was soaking pads and to always call them first because they are not always the greatest at handling pregnancy fears and conditions. I think it’s worth noting that I’m also on Lovenox injections so anything that would cause me to bleed down there is going to cause it easier and also cause it to heal slower than someone not on a blood thinner. But regardless I think it’s important to recognize that blood in pregnancy, is more often than not, not caused by something placing the pregnancy/baby at risk. Can it sometimes be? Of course! But is it uncommon? Also yes! Always communicate with your doctor(s) and don’t be afraid to talk to them about your fears and concerns.
  • Yes I have one as well. They noticed it on my 8 week ultrasound and didn't prep me for what was to come. At 10 weeks I started bleeding for 2 days not too much though but bright red. Between 3 days later and now at almost 18 weeks I have been in er at least 5 times for extremely heavy bleeding and clotting. Very large clots to the point I was sure we had lost the baby. They said after 10 weeks your hcg will taper off so they don't rely on that since everyone is different and their is no definite number where anyone should be. So far so good here. But extremely nerve racking. I'm just on this side of bed rest. No lifting over 10lbs and such. So I take it easy. They say it's not normal but it's common and it seems like every trip to the er there is a nurse there who has experienced the same thing I'm going thru which helps. This is my first time having a pregnancy with this kind of issue. But I am high risk so none have really been super easy. Hang in there and keep the faith
  • I've been bleeding and cramping since I found out I was pregnant this is my first pregnancy and right now I'm 14weeks I started bleeding again today I swear it happens once a month like a period and I cry every time thinking something is wrong haven't been to a doctor yet because I had problems with insurance which I finally got in order I'm just hoping I get good news at my first appointment I've dealt with miscarriages and ectopic pregnancy already I'm just really hoping I can finally be a mom.
