Let’s talk Prenatals

Hi all! Looking for advice on prenatal vitamins. I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins for about 8 months after talking with my doctor about TTC & she suggested I add in a prenatal. The first few months I took the One a Day Prenatal & tolerated well. A few months in, I must have gotten a faulty bottle- the fish smell was overwhelming and there was an oily substance covering all the pills, so I threw them out. I then started taking a cheaper gummy, generic brand prenatal vitamin. I’ve been tolerating these well for the past few months. This past weekend, I got my first positive pregnancy test and this inspired me to look more into what ingredients should be included in a pre-natal vitamin & I realized my gummy pre-natal may have been missing some essential ingredients. Therefore, I bought the Ritual pre-natal vitamins (a friend of mine swears by them) and I took last night before bed. Today- I’ve had several rounds of diarrhea and haven’t been able to eat anything. I haven’t had any other GI issues thus far, so I’m assuming it’s related to the new vitamin?? Any tips or advice?? Should I switch back to the gummies or try for the one-a-day prenatals again (they seem to have all the recommended ingredients)?? I know I could message my doctor about this, but it feels silly messaging them, I’m only 4 weeks & don’t have my first appt for another 2 weeks. Thank you all in advance fellow future moms! ❤️

I would definitely message your dr. My dr prescribed me prenatals that I’ve been taking, so I can’t give you advice on the brand since it’s generic. But even your primary can prescribe you one, this one you know it contains everything you need

I just started ritual prenatals before that I was taking garden of earth. I haven’t experience the same symptoms you have from them and I really like the lemon flavor to them. I would as your doctor too.

I’ve been taking the basic prenatal from Thorne for the last few months and have had no issues! They’re also a highly researched brand and company with high quality ingredients that I love!

Thank you both for your input! I’m sort of wondering if I picked up a GI bug that may have caused the diarrhea? I am going to message my doctor and see what they suggest. What time of day have you found is best to take the prenatals? Before bed? With or without food?

The ritual are with or without food. I take first thing in am!

I've been taking Perelel. They are kind of expensive, i think, but I have a very sensitive stomach to vitamins and these I've been able to tolerate as long as I take them with food and not throw up!

I’ve been taking a prenatal for the past year (in preparation LOL) and I’ve like the New Chapter brand, specifically the “Once Daily Formulated for Absorption”! I think they’re a little pricy but since the folic acid is in the form of methylfolate it’s supposed to be easier on your digestive tract. Hope you find something that works for you!

My fertility specialist recommends looking for folate (not folic acid), choline, iodine, vitamin D, DHA, and iron in your prenatals. It's hard to find one that has them all, but one she recommended was prenatal pro essentials packet. Def pricey, but has it all. Smarty Pants Organics is another she suggested, if you tolerate gummies better, but it was missing iron and maybe DHA? So you'd have to supplement that
