2nd Trimester

Icef on ultrasound

Hi ladies! I had an ultrasound done and my baby had a bright light in its heart, which I believe it is called icef. Was wondering if anyone else had this and what was the outcome? I had blood work done at the beginning of my pregnancy and all of my chromosome tests came back negative, that was the only concerning thing on the ultrasound, any feedback would be appreciated!

I had the same exact situation…all blood tests came back normal, but at my 20 week anatomy scan they saw a light spot on baby’s heart. They assured me it is very common and will probably resolve itself but they did send me for a level 2 ultrasound just to be sure. At that appointment they told me that the light spot was still there but fading and seems to be resolving itself. They did offer preform a procedure where they take blood directly from the baby to test it to rule out down syndrome 100% (those early blood tests are actually done on the blood from the placenta and are 97% accurate). With the procedure being offered, they would have to stick a needle in my belly under ultrasound guidance (yikes) and take blood directly from baby. I declined once they told me there was a risk, although very small, it could end with accidentally terminating the pregnancy. Do not worry about this, especially if your blood tests came back normal. I’m sure you will have a beautiful, healthy baby :)
