RBC Antigen Positive Test, Worried!!

I’m Rh negative, and my blood test came back as positive for RBC antigens, but they said the antigens had a weak reaction, so they couldn’t determine the specific type. I Googled it and now I’m freaking out. It could be an antigen that isn’t an issue, but it could also be an antigen that could attack baby’s blood and cause issues. Has anyone else had positives for antigen and not had a baby with Rh disease? I found an article showing that the stats are very low, but I’m very worried now. The lab recommended testing again in a few weeks to determine the type of antigen. I’m hoping that this at least means it would not be a severe case, if they are the type of antigen to cause issues. I’m 8 weeks, this is my 3rd baby, and I also had a miscarriage once. Hoping someone has some advice or maybe a positive outcome story…

Re: RBC Antigen Positive Test, Worried!!

  • Update: So, after even more Googling, I think I hopefully figured it out! I have been having spotting the last few weeks, so a couple of weeks ago the gave me a Rhogam shot. Apparently the Rhogam shot will cause a false positive, and my doctor likely ordered the test this early in pregnancy (in previous pregnancies it wasn’t done until 28 weeks) to ensure that the Rhogam had done its job. I truly hope this is accurate—if so, I’m so relieved and also annoyed that I didn’t understand that and it caused me to worry!
