Adoptive & Hopeful Adoptive Parents March 2023

I’ve been lurking the board the past week or two and haven’t seen any activity, but I thought I’d see if anyone else is lurking and would like to join in.

What route (Foster Care adoption, domestic, international)?

Where are you in the process right now (just thinking, home study, waiting for match, etc.)

Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process?

    foster care, but considering domestic or international for the next adoption 

    Where are you in the process right now (just thinking, home study, waiting for match, etc.)
    1 kiddo already adopted through foster care, 1 kiddo in the process of adopting through foster care, waiting for another placement but it’s been a while so also looking into domestic and international programs

    Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process?
    For the current adoption, nothing really new happening this month. Birth parents appealed the TPR, so we have to wait for the outcome of that, which could take several months since the courts are slow. For planning our next adoption, I have a couple info meetings I’m attending to learn more about a few different programs so I’m excited about that.

    Any questions? Has anyone done an international adoption? If so, what country?

    Any tips for the steps you’ve passed?
    I probably have plenty, so just ask if you have any questions!

    Private adoption.

    My daughter is 3 1/2. So, I'm on the other side.

    Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process?

    I'm now dealing with explaining a bit more about how we became a family and reading books to her at night.

    Any tips for the steps you’ve passed?

    My tips would be not to worry too much about the home study or work yourself into a state. Also, use the wait time to travel, prepare and know that your baby is coming at the right time.

    Private domestic adoption, working with an agency.

    Where are you in the process right now (just thinking, home study, waiting for match, etc.)
    Waiting for a match (Coming up on a year wait right now).

    Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process?
    Mostly just waiting, but we are gathering more baby items and rearranging things for the nursery.

    Any tips for the steps you’ve passed?
    You can either try to self-match on social media, or reach out to an agency. I'd recommend going through an agency, but make sure you do the research on numbers. Some local agencies only see a few placements per year, while some agencies may see more but work on a larger scale.

    We're adopting for fertility reasons. No living kids, 6 years of miscarriages, and we've always wanted a large family.
