Anxiety around PREGNANCY and not birth

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. This is my first pregnancy. While I’ve always wanted to be a mom, at only 4w4d, I’ve had some of the worst nausea of my life. I have a strong (and irrational) fear of throwing up, so the nausea is killing me. I’m on promethazine every 6 hours as well as trying to eat every few hours, staying very hydrated, and both peppermint/ginger candies. The b6 and unisom didn’t work for me.

Once the baby is out, I’m not worried at all. My biggest fear is the next 35.5 weeks if symptoms stay as they are now. Any words of wisdom, suggestions, or support? I don’t have a mom to talk to about all this!!

Thanks in advance 💕

Re: Anxiety around PREGNANCY and not birth

  • Hi!
I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I had awful nausea with my daughter. I will say it’s “typical” for it to go away around 12 weeks. And that did happen for me.
Have you tried meditation? That would help my nausea at times. Also, I found some of my nausea was being triggered by acid reflux. Pepcid really helped.

  • I’ve been taking my promethazine as prescribed, and live off tums/pepto/etc. I will say, the promethazine is helping! But I still have nausea lurking. Hoping 12 weeks gets here fast and it does go away 🤞🏼
  • I'm sorry you're dealing with that! I also have a terrible fear of throwing up. I will say therapy has helped me reduce the power that fear has over me, but it's always present. I would say try not to let your anxiety about the next 35 weeks take over. Take each day (or hour) as it comes. As my mom always said, 'This too shall pass.'
  • Thanks for your input! I’m working on it for sure. It’s hard to not get stuck on the “this is my new forever” state of mind.
  • @hihelloitsemily you're not alone!! one day at a time!

  • @hihelloitsemily I was the same way! Very irrational fear of throwing up and even being around people when they throw up. Having a baby helped with being around it. Something in me just clicked when my sweet girl was sick that my fears went away and mama mode kicked in. As for me throwing up, honestly my last pregnancy I was so nauseous all the time up until 18 weeks that I had wished I would puke sometimes! The nausea was worse to me than throwing up because after you get sick, usually there’s some relief. But, having felt sick from week 5 to 18 weeks, it took away that fear. Hang in there! It’ll get better, the sickness will go away and really shouldn’t last past the first trimester. My first pregnancy it lasted til week 12. Just make sure when you’re feeling nauseous you eat something, drink water, and try to sleep if you can. Ginger didn’t help me, but peppermint did :) I drank lots of peppermint tea and had mints with me at all times.
  • @ashsowers2020 luckily, I’m on promethazine as well as having a GENEROUS stock of peppermint tea, peppermint candy, ginger candy, and real ginger ale. Thank you for your support 💕💕💕
