1st Trimester

Help!! Has anyone gone through this?!

On Wednesday I was 5 weeks exactly. I had a trans vaginal us done & they seen a gestational sac & a yolk sac but no fetal pole 🥺 my hcg levels were at 16,00 & the nurse practitioner at my OB office says with levels that high, a fetal pole should have been seen. My heart is broken. Please tell me someone has gone through this & had a positive outcome?! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Re: Help!! Has anyone gone through this?!

  • 5 weeks may be too early to see a fetal pole. I think it's more common closer to 6 weeks but I've never had an US earlier than 6.5 weeks and have always seen the fetal pole so I don't have experience with that.

Sometimes you just can't get the right angle during an US to see things properly. It's possible the fetal pole is present and you just can't see it.

  • That is another thing that the nurse practitioner did tell me, that it could be there but they just didn’t get the right angle. Or if it is too early, we will just have to wait a week or 2 to rescan.
  • I wouldn’t worry. Five weeks is super early which is why they usually do the first scan between 6-8 weeks.
