Bed rest with twins

Hello everyone,
im currently 34 weeks 1 day pregnant with twins and my OB just put me out of work and in bed rest due to me having contractions and passing out. Wondering if there was any ways to occupy my time while on bed rest. I’m not one to typically sit or lay still. Trying to keep the babies cooking for another 3-4 weeks.
Any advice or recommendations would be so helpful.
thank you!

Re: Bed rest with twins

  • Sorry to hear you’re on bed rest! I hope it ends up helping your babies stay in a bit longer. I’m sure it was scary having contractions already and passing out! As a FTM myself, I don’t have any experience with being put on bed rest, but I am a bit of a couch potato.

So I have no idea if you like any of these things, but if you’re just looking for a way to pass the time, I would recommend watching a new TV show (maybe even one that has several seasons) or movies, reading books, or trying out some video games. If you feel crafty, you could paint or draw or something - I’m not sure how strict your restrictions are.

If you’re looking for something more “productive” or baby-related, you could read some parenting books or watch some classes. Like I’ve been watching some birthing and parenting videos through the Tinyhood website and I have a couple paperback books on parenting. This is only a good suggestion if you haven’t already been doing those things!

A more social activity would be to have individual or group video chats with friends/family. Some places also offer zoom classes on various subjects and hobbies - for example, I took a zoom watercolor class through my local art center once.

Those are the sorts of things I like to do, but maybe someone else will have more ideas. Best of luck!

  • @mvm0609 thank you for the suggestions! I have done quite a few of them! I’ve made it to 35 weeks 4 days! But it seems like the days are getting longer as time goes on. I’ve been binging whatever series looks good on Netflix,Hulu, or peacock. It helps that  my husband runs home on lunch so I’m not alone all day but I’d rather be up doing something or at the gym or back working.
  • @k_keyser1996 You’re getting closer! Just a few more weeks. I’ve been on my maternity leave for a week now, and I’m kind of feeling the same way. I’ve been watching way too many movies. I’m also reading come childbirth and parenting books. At least I can move around, though. I’m sorry you’re stuck in bed. It’ll all be worth it soon!!
  • Yeah, best of luck to you both! I made it to 37+5 before my water broke and I had mine on Sunday morning at 37+6, so no March baby for me 😅 It will happen soon enough, though hopefully not till the doctor is hoping for the twins!
  • @mvm0609 Congratulations!!! 🍾🤗
  • Hey guys! I’ve made it to 37 weeks 4 days. Twins are still doing amazing! I hope I can make it a Couple more days started having some contractions but nothing to major. At this point I can hardly stand up on my own, my belly is huge and itches like crazy. Let’s hope I can make it these next couple days
  • @lightintothevoid sorry I’m just getting to this! How are you doing??
    @mvm0609 congratulations!
  • Alright.. I need some help.. I have been having contractions on and off all day, constant low back pain, and some cramps.. is this signs of labor?
  • @k_keyser1996 Could be, and since you are having twins I would call and see what your OB says. It could also be nothing yet. It’s hard to say. Did you get any instructions about frequency and timing of contractions and when to come in?
  • @Wishilivedinflorida It was briefly mentioned. Was going to be more discussed at my next appointment which is tomorrow. I feel like an idiot and I went in last night cause my OB didn’t answer and I was freaking out. But turned out to be a false alarm..
  • Geez I feel like they should have given you more info considering how early you could have gone!

Dont feel like an idiot. You did the right thing.

If it makes you feel better I’m in triage (not in labor) with lightheadedness and dehydration from having Covid last week. It’s been awful. Anyhow the triage staff will tell you a million times over to always get checked when in doubt! I’m 38+2 today. We are both so close!!
  • @Wishilivedinflorida oh no! I hope you feel better soon! Yes we are! 37 weeks 5 days for me. Feeling a lot more pressure and my lower back is killing me.
  • I made it to 38 weeks, my OB wants to induce me early next week if I don’t go into labor on my own
  • @k_keyser1996 That’s great. How are you doing now? Did you induce?

I’m at 40 weeks + 4 days, and I cannot wait for this baby to come. I’m trying to be patient, but everyone around me is so anxious, it’s driving me nuts. Hopefully baby girl will make her appearance soon.
  • @lightintothevoid I hope it’s soon for you!!! The wait as a FTM is always so hard since you are more likely to be overdue. Are they talking induction if you don’t go before 41 weeks?

@k_keyser1996 I hope all is well and your induction goes smoothly if you need one!

AFM I’m 39+2, prodromal labor since yesterday at 4 am. I’ve done all the old wives tale things and no pickup in regular contractions. Hoping things pick up in the next day or so!
  • @Wishilivedinflorida Oh, no! I hope that things start moving along for you soon!

My midwife said we’ll wait until 41 weeks +5/6 days and then try a membrane sweep if nothing happens.
  • Wishing the best of luck to you all as well as smooth and safe deliveries! My daughter and I are okay, but I didn’t have a great experience with labor so I hope that doesn’t happen for anyone else.

Time passes so quickly now - she’s already 3 weeks old and my original due date was only 7 days ago. It’s crazy to me as a FTM how different things are now. I hope you all get to hold your babies soon!
  • Awh, I’m sorry you had a rough labor. I’m glad you and baby girl are doing okay now. 💕
  • hey everyone! I had the twins 3 days ago! Everything went well! I ended up having to be induced.
  • Twin A: Brayden Michael weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and 20 inches long
Twin B: Mason Alexander weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces and 18.5 inches long
  • Congrats! Those are good sized babies!!! My daughter was smaller than your twin A as a singleton! So happy all is well.

    still pregnant over here!

@Wishilivedinflorida thank you! I definitely felt huge the last few weeks. My husband was just joking around and asked when we are having another baby.. I told him not for a while.
And hopefully you have your baby soon!!
  • @k_keyser1996 Congrats!! Sounds like both boys are healthy. I’m so happy for you. I hope you and your husband are enjoying this precious time. 😍

I am also still pregnant. Having BPP and Non-stress test today. If I go much longer, we’ll do a membrane sweep and hopefully that will speed things along. My mom was late with my brother and went into labor right after a membrane sweep, so she is trying to get me to do that asap because she leaves town in 6 days and wants to meet her grand baby before then. I would like that as well, but I think we just need to be patient and she’ll come when she’s ready.
  • @lightintothevoid I’m getting a sweep Friday if no action. I hope the baby comes in time to meet your mom!
  • @lightintothevoid thank you! We are all doing good, just trying to get a hang of this parenting thing
  • @Wishilivedinflorida I hope your membrane sweep went well and that you’ll be meeting your baby soon.

Thanks! Had some contractions but no real action yet. I have a date for induction for Monday so I have an end in sight! I had Covid at 37 weeks so they don’t want me to go too late. I’ll be 40+2 (my DD is today).
  • @lightintothevoid Did you have your baby yet? I had a girl Monday! Hope all is well with yo
  • @Wishilivedinflorida Congratulations!!! I hope you and baby girl are healthy. 💕

I had my girl on Tuesday! After 50 hours of horrible labor I ended up transferring to the hospital and having her there after a much needed epidural and pitocin, so no homebirth this time, but we are both doing well now. 🤗
  • @lightintothevoid Congratulations! I’m so sorry it was prolonged and painful, but glad you got the relief and help you needed. I hope you are both recovering well and little one is healthy! We are doing great here, just learning how to do this again. 🙂
  • @Wishilivedinflorida Thank you. 🥰 Wishing you and your little one all the best!
