Show off your buys for baby!

Since I think most of us have had our anatomy scans now and are settling in/starting to make purchases for baby, I thought we might like a thread to show off all our new things for baby! Could be clothes, baby carriers, car seats, stuff for mom, whatever you're excited about!

Re: Show off your buys for baby!

  • The sweetest little pieces from Jamie Kay! All 0-3 months and holding them in my hands they are so tiny it kills me (my app is giving me a hard time putting text and pictures in the same post 🙄)
  • Loading the player...
  • Also for anybody who has a toddler still in diapers, I don't know if this is at every target or just my local one, but the last two times we've been, they've had all of the Proudly brand diapers clearanced for $8.99/box! I've checked and it's not online, just in store. We've never tried them before, but we can't tell why they're on clearance, seems to be decently clean ingredients, and we won't turn up our nose at cheap diapers! I can only assume they're not selling well because they're marketed for skincare needs for nonwhite babies (basically just shea butter, which is great for my sensitive-skinned babies too).
  • I am not buying anything until after my baby shower. My best friend is throwing one for me since it'll have been almost 8 years in between kids and I have absolutely nothing left from reese!  My mom ordered the crib I had on my registry and it was over 300 dollars so I'm so grateful for that large purchase! I haven't unboxed it yet because we're still wrapping up construction so it's just a giant box sitting in our dining room currently. But this is the post of it from Amazon

@hitcj4687 yay for a crib! Its so cute and practical. Since we live in the tiniest little house, early last summer we sold/donated all of our baby stuff from DS2 because DH wasn't sold on a third baby, and we decided we needed the space more than we needed to hold on to things for a "maybe" 🤦‍♀️ literally like 4 months later we got pregnant lol. But since this is our third baby we don't expect anybody except our parents and maybe my siblings/best friend's family (they've known me since I was 12 so I'm I get honorary daughter perks haha) to buy anything for us. Hopefully you get most of what you need from your shower! My shower with DS1, it was like nobody looked at the registry at all and it was so frustrating. Plus I held it way too late, exactly a week? maybe two? before he ended up being born, so we didn't have time to get all the rest of the stuff. We survived but it was so stressful especially as a young FTM.
  • @thescarletmom my shower with reese was the same!! I also didn't even know what the hell to add because I'd never been a mom before! I'm hopeful people will follow the registry or just do gift cards/cash. Not that I'm not grateful for whatever but it's nice to get something we actually need/want/asked for lol. Also, we are going to purge reeses room and I'm going to save a ton of his toys and stuff for when this baby is older and I KNOW my husband is gonna throw a fit but these things are in such great condition and Toya are expensive!! So why not hang on to them until baby is old enough to use them!?
  • I love this thread so much!!!! I'll post some of my stuff once my son goes down for a nap. I haven't made many big purchases with moving and everything but I got some clothes, diapers, heirloom blanket etc 😍

@thescarletmom I adore Jamie Kay!! I need to be quicker on their drops for the right sizes!

@hitcj4687 no way that's such a thoughtful gift and so cute!
  • @hitcj4687 exactly! I'm not ungrateful, but it is irritating to exclusively be given things I didn't ask for when there is a list that I know you all have 😂 I would 1000% rather get money/gift cards than a 19th baby blanket, or just stick to what's actually on the registry!! If you want to buy an outfit whatever, I get it, they're cute and fun! But maybe pair it with something we have explicitly told you we need lol.

@kalesix3 we definitely won't buy the big ticket stuff til closer to baby time (partially hoping for parents to buy/pitch in, partially waiting for sales, etc.), but starting to collect the diapers and tiny clothes 🥺 speaking of, I'm expecting my la petite ourse order in the next day or so!!
  • I’m still too nervous to buy stuff, but a friend gave me her crib and my friend that I gave all our girl stuff to offered it back, so at least they’ll have some clothes and a place to sleep.

@pttomato that's definitely another reason why I've only really bought a few clothes and diapers. I've been holding on to a lot of anxiety this time and it's kept me from being able to buy things. I couldn't bring myself to buy anything until the last couple weeks and I still sometimes sit with a sinking feeling in my stomach wondering if it was a mistake after making a purchase. Baby doesn't really need that much to get started anyways, but I hope you can find some relief from the anxiety soon 🩶
  • @thescarletmom Thanks. I know I’ll feel better once I get past 28 weeks, even just hitting 24 weeks takes a little of the stress off (22 weeks now). So I just need to get to April.

  • @pttomato my husband and I were just discussing viability week a few days ago 🩶 it's still a week away for me, and I won't feel "good" about it for several weeks after, but each of those milestones help. Thinking of you
  • I'll have to add things when I get home! One of the great things about teaching at a boarding school is that lots of families have babies who've outgrown stuff and want to give it to us! We are mostly all set for big stuff at this point, and for clothes, so we can ask for smaller fun things for our registry!
  • @thescarletmom gosh your order is so slow, I wish it would get there already!! 😍
This afternoon I washed all the secondhand diapers I have gotten, except one order still not arrived. I debated not washing them because I'll have to sanitize once we're at our new place but I didn't want to pack away diapers from other people without washing them because I'm a germ freak. Even if I was lucky and got almost exclusively secondhand diapers that weren't worn or used by other families.
I wanted to get 8 total grovia and I realized while folding and packing them that somehow I got 14 instead. Plus my orders of new diapers lol, it didn't seem like a lot when they were arriving a few at a time but all washed it's a fair bit. I've had to remind myself that it's 40 diapers per wash every third day so I guess I maybe don't have tooooo many but it seems that way 😂 I can't wait to get a full stash shot once all new and used are prepped, sanitized, washed, and put away.
  • FYI, Primary is running their annual baby sale! 40% off most baby sizes, 50% off newborn sizes ♥️

I contained myself to a few fun pieces. I still have all of my first's Primary outfits squirreled away!
  • @kalesix3 I definitely need to go through the pieces we didn't get rid of (mostly slings and baby clothes I was too sentimental to part with)! We are very bare bones with our "needs" this time around, there's only a few things we would buy ourselves off our registry if someone didn't get it for us. Car seat, snuggleme, a solly wrap, cloth diapers, bottles, bigger diaper bag, and some clothes. We know we just simply wouldn't end up using anything else! DS1 was a binky lover through and through, but only for one brand, while DS2 flat out refused all binkies from the jump. We have a few different brands we've picked up just for the sake of trying with this babe, there's pros and cons imo. I did not miss the frantic binky searches with DS2 but also it was nice to have something to help soothe DS1 if it was just me and him in the car/some other situation where I couldn't pick him up to comfort.

I have had the same issue 😂 when they come 2 or 3 at a time it feels like nothing! But I think I ordered 10 NB diapers from la petite ourse, so that'll be big! But we haven't ordered any others just yet. We had a stash that was just slightly too small I think last time and don't want to make that mistake again, so my goal is 40-50 as well! Just trying to disperse the orders over the weeks/months until baby is here.
  • @thescarletmom I debated the infant vs convertible car seat question for MONTHS with my son and I finally settled on and infant seat because I knew I wanted another baby in the future, so I'm really lucky I did and this baby already has a carseat. It's a Clek too so thank goodness because I'd hate to fork out that much just a few months after moving expenses in another carseat. I hope someone in your family picks that to gift to you!! That's definitely a pro of having close family to help you prepare for baby!!
I actually need to count my diapers and see how many, I think I have 35 right now, I just got 5 Twinkie tush in today and omg organic velour is softer than a cloud! There are a select few more pricey diapers that I'm going to wait to get till closer to my due date. I opted to focus on baby clothes in January and baby diapers in February because we have a lot of furniture to get in March after we move, and then I only have April and May to get everything else. It feels like I have forever to go until I think about how to space out purchased and then it feels like it's happening too fast 😅 are you feeling that way too? I can't wait for you to get your diapers in, they're so adorable 😍
I did buy a bigger diaper bag but I worry I bought one that was too big, it's the perfect size for my birth bag but I'm kind of stressed it's too big and I won't use it 😮‍💨 I have a weird thing about bags, it's so lame 😅
  • @kalesix3 I did the same with DS2! With DS1 we were gifted a travel system so we used that until he got too heavy for me to carry him in it ~7 months. But then with DS2 it was like, well we could cut down on the number of car seats to buy if we just did convertible, etc. But I really value having the infant seat the first few months and not having to carry baby in and out of the car every time, especially if running errands and they fall asleep. It's nice you were able to keep your infant seat and avoid the cost of buying another! My ILs got us one of our convertible seats for Christmas, so we just need the infant seat and extra base, and theoretically could wait on a second convertible because currently only one of our cars will easily fit three seats anyways.

I never thought of breaking down into categories for each month though, that's interesting! I was just picking up one or two of our "need" items each pay period. We have one or two organic velour fitteds from sloomb from DS2 and they are insanely soft! We got the diapers today, just haven't taken a picture yet! And definitely feels like June is really far away until I start thinking of how much needs to be bought/accomplished by then 😂 I'm weird about bags too. I hated our backpack style diaper bag off Amazon with DS2, so I bought a fawn mini for the later baby stage to use instead and it was great for that, but not big enough for baby baby stage imo. Buying another jujube BFF like I had with DS1, it was my favorite even though I'm not a fan of huge bags usually.
  • I did a large burlap tote. When I got to 3 kids. I bought those zip inserts and extra travel wet bags. Each zipper had a purpose: diaper change, my stuff, extra clothes, snacks, bottle stuff, 1st aid, etc. It worked really well. I go back to a backpack post baby stage when you need less, but this time I may have it for longer... sooo many cups and drinks with all the kids. The bag was $20 and the inserts were 20, but I need to buy more this time. They over charge on anything baby just like pet stuff so I always try to find alternatives. We have had the same infant carseat from baby number 1 to this one. I believe they expire after 10 years. I told myself I'd not buy another. And we do the convertible ones. We have 2 of those and multiple boosters. So we can mix a match for each car.
I found this 5 harness folding cars eat that is amazing for traveling or flying. Such an amazing Amazon find. We LOVE it.

I do hate the big bag when shopping and such these days. They always look at you suspiciously with all the theft. But only 1 time a store with a lot of riff raff outside told me the bag was too big for their store and we just went elsewhere.
  • @thescarletmom I absolutely love sloomb diapers!! They're so incredible! I haven't bought any yet but they're definitely on my list because I used them years ago with the last of my siblings I cloth diapered.
Yeah bags are really hard, if it's too small or too big or not the right weight I just won't use them, it has to be a goldilocks situation 😅
I had an azaria dupe miss fong bag with my son and I loved it but it's tiny so I'm in the same boat with it being an awesome quick errands bag but not a 2 kids type of room bag 😩
I just realized recently that the backseat of our car isn't big enough for three across 😵‍💫 will you try to upgrade one of your cars?
  • @kalesix3 We were in the same boat where my vehicle wasn't big enough for 3 carseats across with the ones we had! Luckily, DD is old enough and big enough at 5yo to move up to a booster which is much narrower than the 5-pt harness seat we had her in and DS legally doesn't need a booster in our province at 8yo but the seat belt sits on his neck so we'll keep him in one until he's a couple inches taller.

So I splurged on a Clek and it arrived yesterday but I haven't tried it in the vehicle with the two boosters yet 🤞 There are more narrow boosters we could get too, it'd just be nice since they're so easy to move to just keep the two we have and swap them into whatever vehicle we're using but if we do need two new ones for my vehicle, at least the old ones will easily fit into DH's truck with the Clek (I know because they fit with the massive 5-pt harness carseat ha).

My vehicle is 10 years old too though and needing a new motor DH says so it is also a reasonable option for me to get a bigger one 😅 I just don't want to feel pressured into buying a vehicle before baby comes! Funnily enough, after the Clek arrived yesterday DH mentioned going to take a look at a suitable new-to-us vehicle he found and we're currently on our way to test drive it 😆
  • @potato3000 no way! It's so funny how it ended up working out like that!! I hope you love the new vehicle but don't feel too pressured into buying it if you don't think you'll absolutely need to upgrade! How do you like your Clek so far? The only thing I don't love is mine doesn't have a leather handle cover but I love how sleek and heavy duty it is so I deal with the handle 😅
Thankfully I don't have to worry about *needing* a bigger vehicle unless we have another baby, it's kind of strange though because I don't know anyone else who didn't upgrade to an SUV when expecting their second baby. I sat in the backseat with my son for a long time because he hated his carseat and would get violently carsick so I'm a little nervous because our backseat will fit two carseats comfortably but there's not room for an adult so that feels a little sad but it's also nice to not have to anticipate vehicle payments for awhile yet.
It's definitely a big pro that you can move boosters so easily around in your car if you do keep it for awhile longer. Let me know how the test drive goes!!
  • @kalesix3 with DS1 we almost exclusively used sloomb fitteds with thirsties covers, and they're so high quality but literally so pricey!! like $30-40/fitted when all the other diaper I've ever bought are under $20/ea haha. I gave those fitteds away when he outgrew them to a friend with a new baby at the time, but it was a mistake because I don't think she ended up using them and probably had no idea how expensive they were 😬
Bags are so hard, for literally no reason. The regret I felt at ordering that damn amazon diaper bag thinking it wouldn't be that big of a deal... boy was I wrong haha.
We have a Dodge Journey with a third row, and that's our "family mobile". Our other car however is a Toyota Camry 😂 DS1 is a very petite guy, if he's hit 50 lbs now it's only just barely so I don't think he's anywhere close to us being to break down his booster seat into a backless. There's no way I can picture that we'll be able to fit three seats in there, and I don't love the idea of what if we get in a tricky car situation and the one with the kids doesn't have the journey (highly unlikely but still). We'll end up getting something bigger for sure, but it may be after baby comes since at least one of our cars has plenty of space for now.
  • i havent bought anythihg yet
  • how do you post a pictyre? I would like to sghow the portrait im going to buy.
  • @babygirlmolina0000507 I haven't bought anything either. I kept everything. Im almost done making his baby blankets. I believe the image icon up above where you type the comment would get you there.
  • @thescarletmom oh no 😯 that's so sad! I would be heartbroken to give away diapers that expensive but I get it because I left my cloth diaper stash when I was younger and moving around a ton and I really miss the wahm diapers from shops long closed down. Ugh.
My favorite fitteds of all time are Lily and Frank and yep $40 apiece plus shipping from Canada lmao, they're so worth it though 🥺
  • Forgot to post my diaper haul! DS2 for some reason is obsessed with the brown diaper with hearts, he's played with it a ton the last two days just doing and undoing the snaps on only that one 😂
  • @thescarletmom omg stop that's so cute 🥺 I love the little ballerinas so much 😍
  • You ladies are good.  I still need to pull out my son's old stuff and see what I even need haha!  I did purchase infant car seats, a few carriers and a willow pump so far.

  • @ReadyForaB I still need to do that too tbh, I knew I needed newborn size in summer weight fabrics but I need to check my 0-3 and 3-6 sizes and make sure there aren't huge gaps with the different seasonal clothing I have. 😵‍💫
  • @sarahjane175 omg your mural is so beautiful 😍
  • I don’t have any pictures yet because everything is still in the boxes it came in lol but we ordered the glider, crib, pack n play, stroller and car seat, baby swing and dresser. We have a lot of stuff to put together lol
  • Is it the snuggle me lounger everyone was raving about?
  • @francesgs that sounds like a nesting dream come true!! Which glider did you settle on? I am adamant I have to have a glider this time, tradition rockers in small spaces are a nightmare.

    @hitcj4687
    Yes it's the snuggle me!
  • @kalesix3 it's the one thing not on my registry I'm going to buy myself! I'm excited for it
