12 weeks vs 2nd trimester to announce?

I have always been under the assumption that you share (officially) after the first trimester. (14 Weeks) But everywhere I have read mentions 12 weeks?

I know that there is no real answer when you personally feel comfortable telling people, I guess I am being extra cautions because we have already miscarried before.

Our parents and siblings know and we are currently 11 weeks.

Can anyone explain the 12 vs 2nd trimester reasoning?

  • It’s just that statistically, you’re *less* likely to miscarry after 12 weeks, or I guess the end of the first trimester. I think people use 12 weeks because that’s a common time for the NT scan or NIPS so they use that as a benchmark. However, I have heard of people waiting to announce and then they still lose the baby. So it’s really just up to you. Unfortunately there’s no way to know for sure…Just depends on your comfort level,
