Re: Weekly Check-in 12/12: EDD 6/1 - 6/15

  • Due June 13th with my second boy! I will be 14 weeks tomorrow and have been feeling some fluttering in my belly from baby boy. It's still very subtle but he's there!!

I'm annoyed that I'm still throwing up so frequently yet I'm so hungry all the time.. if I don't eat something basically every hour, my blood sugar seems to crash and I get all dizzy and weird feeling. Before I was pregnant, I never ate breakfast and went hours in between meals.

I'm planning on getting back into an exercise routine this week. Wish me luck!

My favorite vacation spot so far has been the bahamas. Seriously freaking beautiful and amazing! Although, we rented a house at the top of a mountain in Divide, CO a few years ago and that was really memorable as well!

Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days:
    June 14 / 13w5d

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    Third time mom

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise:
About 6 weeks until our anatomy scan when we find out!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of:
Potsticker, the bump says. Some of the items they compare the baby to are hilarious though, not sure where they're finding a standardized scoop of ice cream haha (one from last week).

    Upcoming appointments:
Just had an appointment last week, so nothing until January! Jan 6th is a midwife appt and then anatomy scan on the 26th!

    How are you feeling:
Better in some ways, worse in others. I've had persistent daily headaches recently and nothing helps much, not even sleep. I'm running through all my tried and true migraine relief ideas and so far nothing. But the vomiting is slowly getting better! I might have one or maybe two days a week where I won't throw up the whole day now. Definitely finding I have to be very intentional about eating or I feel not so great. I also was a serial breakfast skipper before pregnancy (eating when I first wake up usually makes me nauseated outside of pregnancy) and generally didn't eat much, so this adjustment is hard for me. And lots of rib pain. I have some spine issues that make my ribs pop out of place easily and that good ole relaxin makes it worse so I'm presently pretty sore more days. But I have more energy and in the big picture, feel sooooo much better that even with everything else I don't feel too bad!

    Rants / Raves:
DH and I made some good progress on name discussions earlier! That was a huge relief. We by no means have a name picked, but feeling better about the stress that is naming a human child haha.

    Questions:
has anybody else here ever been told the wrong sex by an ultrasound tech before baby was born?

GTKY: what is your favorite vacation spot?
I am absolutely in love with Boston. Wish I could go every year! Can't wait to take our kids someday, DH and I have some sweet memories from our trip there together. I had booked it for Christmas/his birthday, and we went in mid-June. My dad had died two weeks before we left, and going on that trip really pulled me out of a grief pit and made me realize I was going to marry DH.
  • @sunny_native14 my appointment is tomorrow and I'm so hoping to be able to hear a nice clear heartbeat too, fingers crossed for us 🤞🏻

    A tree frog 🐸  and orange 🍊

    Upcoming appointments:
Tomorrow, I had to call the birth center in a panic this morning because somehow my appointment was marked as today at noon and tomorrow at 4 and I had no idea which one was right lol.

    How are you feeling:
pretty good, just dealing with morning sickness, dizziness and migraines lately.

    Rants / Raves:
it's really hard for me to find baby clothes I like in stock because I buy from small shops mostly, with small batches of items that sell out immediately but I scored three newborn size footies last week and I'm happy because I have no NB size anything and I needed them with my son, he had nothing that fit but this time I'm going to be prepared even if I end up having a big baby who can't wear that size lol.

    Questions:

GTKY: what is your favorite vacation spot?
I've actually never been on a vacation but I've always wanted to spend a week in California.
  • @kalesix3 Yes! At my appointment 6 weeks ago, the midwife couldn't get a good reading on the Doppler, which I knew was a possibility with it still being early, but really made me stressed. We did see the heartbeat on a shoddy ultrasound machine, but I just want to hear it! Hope you have a wonderful appointment tomorrow!
  • @sunny_native14 mine was 11.5 weeks I want to say, she tried with two different dopplers, and then couldn't visualize the baby or hear the hb on ultrasound but she said she thought she saw flickers on the screen so that was good enough. It was so annoying. I got my NT ultrasound soon after that though and got some reassurance, I just don't want to go through the same thing again. Hopefully she was just having a clutzy day or something. Not being able to find the hb on the Doppler is such a bad anxiety spiral. Fingers crossed for you on Wednesday.

    FTM/STM/STM+: 4th time mom

Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: still a surprise, but we’re going to find out

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: a lemon

Upcoming appointments: I had my NT scan today and will have another office visit in about a month

How are you feeling: better than I have been

Rants / Raves: I have a biiiig rant this week about the crappy way the ultrasound tech at my NT scan just treated me.

She literally made a scoffing noise when she saw my stomach fat (which should not be a surprise- I was fat when I walked in the room. It wasn’t going to change when I got to the table). Then she grilled me on my last menstrual period and I finally had to ask why for her to say I’m measuring a week ahead. She had me so worried for nothing. Then after I told her I have a history of ovulating early she continued to freak out about me being a week ahead over and over. Then she asked me how big my previous babies were (8lbs 14oz, 10lbs 11oz, and 9lbs 11oz) and then was like, “oh you had gestational diabetes” which I didn’t. Then she kept making me hold my stomach fat (not a big deal except that she’s made me feel so disgusting about it earlier) and jabbing the wand into my c-section scar tissue (which hurt like a bitch) while consistently talking about how big the baby was. She also did not wipe off the jelly when she was done. I had to ask for a towel.

I left feeling really shitty but imagine how much worse I would have felt if it had been my first!

    Questions: none right now

GTKY: what is your favorite vacation spot? Every year our friends and us all get a big Airbnb with all of our kids in the Poconos. It’s the best.
  • @cassafrass123 um that's really shitty. She shouldn't work in healthcare if she's going to be rude, assuming, and judgemental because of someone's body shape. You also literally cannot tell how big a baby is going to be from ultrasounds accurately anyways, let alone just because a baby is measuring ahead early on. 🙄 DS1 measured a week ahead pretty often and he was 7lbs 7oz at birth. I can't believe she would go say "oh you must have had GD then" as though it was supposed to be a dig against you (or that all big babies are "caused" by GD), even though GD isn't caused by any actions mom does or doesn't take, its genetic. But also I can because she sounds like a huge b*tch. UGH. yikes. I'm so upset for you! Can you call and maybe ask not to see that ultrasound tech again since she was so awful?
  • @cassafrass123 I am so sorry that happened to you. What a horrible and terrible experience and I'm so very sorry you had to go through that. Some people are truly so terrible. Ignore her! My brother was over 10 pounds when he was born. My mom did not have gestational diabetes! Some people are the worst!
  • @cassafrass123 I would report that tech and then I'd call and tell them you never want to be seen by her again. The way she deliberately shamed you and hurt you physically is medical abuse and she should be fired. I'm so upset for you to be treated that way. Also measuring a week ahead and especially when you didn't know your exact ovulation date is super common and normal and not a concern like she tried to act like it was, if it's two weeks or more they'll change your due date but nobody is that concerned about a week ahead, just her. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@cassafrass123 The ultrasound tech for my first pregnancy made a comment about how huge baby’s belly was every.single.ultrasound. Which can be a sign of poorly controlled GD, which I was already having anxiety and OCD issues around (diagnoses with GD at 13 weeks).

I don’t trust ultrasound measurements that much at this point though. DD was estimated to be 6 lb 13 oz at 36 weeks, and 3 whole weeks later she was born at 6lb 14 oz. DS measured anywhere from 99% to like 50% depending on who was doing the measurements. 🤷‍♀️

  • @pttomato I don't know why people think it's okay to say things like that 🤦‍♀️ I'm a very petite person and the ultrasound tech with my first would always laugh and say "this is gonna be a big baby!" And then say things about how she didn't know how I'd be able to get the baby out of me. Not even in my third trimester as a FTM and she's trying to terrify me of labor?? The OB who ended up delivering him when I transferred to the hospital even kept saying things like "wow, this is big baby mom! This is a big baby!" I was at the hospital for less than 20 minutes when he was born and in that time they still managed to try to pressure me into a potential c-section and episiotomy. Then he was literally 7.5lbs 😑 these people had me believing I was pushing out a 10lb baby. I don't believe a damn word anybody says about the size of a baby until they are out of me.
  • @thescarletmom The worst part was this was the ultrasound tech for my MFM office, so they specialize in high-risk/complicated pregnancies, you think they would be more careful about making comments.

  • @pttomato okay that's way worse! Because theoretically your average u/s tech might not know that a certain characteristic on the baby like that is indicative of uncontrolled GD. Its rude regardless, but maybe not intentionally anxiety inducing. But like... this woman knew, because it's her specialty. Ugh. People who work in the birthing sector of medicine really need to get their acts together across the board
  • @thescarletmom @kalesix3 I emailed and received a call from the doctor in charge of their practice. He apologized and then basically blamed it on me and her not having good chemistry. He also then berated me on my menstrual history. Sir, you’re not my fucking OB. (Pardon my French) He was kind of shitty too. BUT, I talked to my OB office and they changed the location for my anatomy scan to the hospital MFM office. I’ve been there before and they’ve been super kind every time. So now I’m looking forward to my anatomy scan instead of dreading it.

@pttomato that’s such a terrible experience! I’m sorry you dealt with that! The only thing that saved me from a downward spiral is the fact that I’ve been through this enough times to recognize what’s normal. All of my babies have been bigger than the estimates, but also every baby in my family is huge and my husband is 6ft (I’m only 5’4” and change) so it’s not shocking that they’re big. I’m so glad I’ll be with the actually caring people at the hospital for my last ever anatomy scan!
  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: due June 12, making me 14w 4d

    FTM/STM/STM+: 3rd baby!

Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: having our 3rd girl!!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: a house mouse 🐭

Upcoming appointments: next appointment is the 22nd!

How are you feeling: feeling better, but still sleepy, though not as severely exhausted.

Rants / Raves: everything definitely feels more real now that we know the sex and have a name for her. No longer random baby in belly haha

Rants: being pregnant with older kids is hard. My eldest had a puke night the other night and I ended up peeing my pants from gagging so hard trying to help her. I felt so bad 😩

    Questions: none

GTKY: what is your favorite vacation spot?
I don’t really know … we haven’t vacationed much has a family. Our first REAL vacation was this year and we went to the beach with family. That was really nice. The kids loved it.
