Quickening

Hi mamas! Has everyone felt their baby move yet? I'm 20w3d and haven't yet, but just had our ultrasound and they were a wiggle worm! I learned that having an anterior placenta can make it a little more difficult to feel them, which I have, but curious if you have felt them and when. My nurse said it was still normal and I should soon. Experiencing a lot of round ligament pain but that's about it. Unless I've totally missed it lol but people tell me it will be very recognizable, more like butterflies. How did it feel for you and when did you notice it? Thanks!

Re: Quickening

  • It was noticable for me right around where you are now (FTM with a posterior placenta). I had people tell me it was like butterflies too, but I would say it was more like a muscle spasm 🤣 not painful or anything, but just that sort of rippling effect that you feel when a muscle involuntarily twitches. I hear having an anterior placenta can definitely delay feeling movement. Hopefully you will feel something soon!
  • @melaniewitts I had an anterior placenta with my first and I first felt baby around 18 weeks but it didn’t feel consistent or anything more than a flutter until about 20/21 weeks. My husband wasn’t able to feel from the outside until sometime between 22-24 weeks.

I’m now pregnant with number 2 and my placenta is posterior and I’ve been feeling baby since about 15 weeks!

My OB and ultrasound tech both said FTMs typically aren’t quite sure what they’re feeling (I definitely wasn’t!!) because it can sometimes feel like gas bubble, etc.

  • I'm 23w2d with an anterior placenta, and I still don't really feel much. Every once in a while, usually in the evenings, I'll feel something similar to gas bubbles. I've only felt one big kick that I think I could've felt on the outside. I'm hoping to feel more really soon!
  • I am 21 weeks and a few days and the past two days are the first days I am feeling actual kicks. Before this it has been very light and just sort of felt like waves or something? But now I have had about 5 strong movements where I’m like finally!!! I have an anterior placenta too if it helps!
  • Im 22 weeks and I’ve only been feeling movement that is unmistakably the baby for past week. I’m a FTM with an anterior placenta. I’m keeping track of the movement in the notes app on my phone.
  • @melaniewitts FTM here with anterior placenta. I felt the baby move for the first time at 21+3, so it's just around the corner, I assure you. It's been pretty consistent since then (a bit every day), but getting more and more frequent each day. Currently baby is having a "utero dance party" like someone else said, and I'm about to go to bed. Yay! Haha. It never grows old though!

  • FTM with anterior placenta. I was actually shocked when they told me at my anatomy ultrasound that I have one because I had been feeling him move and kick for a week or so prior and its clear what it is. First time was at 15 weeks, then didn't feel him again until week 18, and then nothing consistent until late week 19/into week 20. Anatomy scan was at 21 weeks. Now I'm 22 weeks and can count on feeling him move every day, especially In the evening after dinner.

To me at this stage the kicks feels like pops, like someone is tapping me from the inside. I also feel butterflies or even slightly unsettled stomach when he's rolling around and moving. I've been able to see his kicks and feel them from the outside, though my husband hasn't been lucky enough yet on the timing to feel them
  • My placenta is posterior &fundal, I've been feeling clear movement (more than butterflies) since 16 weeks, he has been kicking hard enough for partner to feel on the outside since week 18 (currently 20 weeks). I know this is unusual...he is my 2nd baby if that helps.
