EDD / Weeks + Days: Feb 4/28+2 (third trimester already/finally!!)

Baby is the size of a(n): eggplant or cabbage

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

    Upcoming Appointments: Nov 22

How are you feeling?: I’ve developed leg cramps over the weekend, but I’m hoping that paying attention to electrolyte consumption resolves that (thanks @ttc3y for the suggestion!). Otherwise, pretty good.

Rants/Raves: Rave: my grad school roommates/close friends came in this weekend and it was so good to see them! It would have been too difficult for them to get to my baby shower in my hometown (WV is not very accessible by plane and they’d have longggg drives 😅) so they visited me here instead, and I’m so glad they did! Rant: I hate how opaque insurance is - I’m trying to order my insurance-approved breast pump but the hoops I have to jump through to find out what’s even covered are just silly. I get needing the prescription before they pay for it, but can’t they at least list the options and what, if any, cost-sharing for each model? I have a few websites I can go through but I don’t know what the price comparison is for the different options in each one.

    Questions: natm

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? Hiking and gardening, from growing up wandering the woods with my brother all summer and helping my parents and my grandma in their gardens. And baking, which was always something we did with my dad for special occasions like birthdays and holidays. I enjoy them all by myself, I love the connections between generations of loved ones in my garden and in baking traditions, and I’m looking forward to sharing them all with my son 🥰

@fertile-turtle those are great family hobbies to share and carry on!!

When I started getting leg cramps with my 3rd, my midwife said that it was a lack of magnesium. She taught me a trick with Epsom salt. I just quickly soak a  washcloth in warm water with Epsom salt and put it on the cramp and it works almost immediately. I've done that in my last few pregnancies. I've been taking a magnesium supplement as suggested by my chiropractor and haven't had cramps so far this time. So that's just another possibility of what may be the issue and remedy for it.

@seeds_of_joy I’ve been on a magnesium supplement since my first trimester, when I’d wake up to use the bathroom overnight and was unable to go back to sleep. It’s part of the reason I was a little surprised by suddenly having pretty severe leg cramps. If adding electrolytes doesn’t help, I’ll ask my midwife next week if I can take more magnesium or if there’s something else I can do. An epsom salt washcloth does sound like a great remedy in the moment, though, if I keep getting them!

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 25 weeks, 6 days

Baby is the size of a(n):kale...

    Team blue/pink/green: 💗

    Upcoming Appointments: a few weeks

How are you feeling?: Occasional sore back from the extra and sudden boob weight but otherwise pretty good.

Rants/Raves: raves: I have orientation for my seasonal job tonight...first time working outside the home since I was pregnant with my 11 year old! I'll be making about half of what my husband does an hour but it's better than nothing. Thankfully we don't have much to purchase before the birth other than diapers and home birth supplies and little things.

    Questions:

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? I don't have a lot of time for hobbies unless they are practical things that are out of necessity like cooking, lesson planning for homeschool, and making my own natural products (deodorant, laundry soap, disinfectant spray, hair stuff, lotion, etc) which basically started because I wanted natural, affordable products. I also love to read...non fiction mostly.  I'm more spontaneous with all other hobbies.  Dancing started out as a drug induced rave hobby decades ago and became an act of worship of God. I love decorating out of found , given, repurposed things. I occasionally do crafts like crochet, crossstitch, card making, decopauging, and scrapbooking just because I naturally need an outlet for creativity. I used to write a lot of poetry because it helped when I was depressed. I don't write very often anymore as far as poetry but I love writing letters. That started when I moved across the country at 11 and wrote all my friends letters. Then we moved back later that year and I wrote the friends that I left behind again. It eventually became random penals, internet friends and friends in jail, a cousin in prison, and when my sperm donor rejected me and didn't want to have any contact with me (I was hoping he would be my penpal too 🤭), I decided to join a prison ministry where I write women in prison and do Bible studies with them through mail. That definitely fills letter writing void and I absolutely love it.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 25 + 3

Baby is the size of a(n): Cauliflower (or a Zack Morris brick phone 😆)

    Team blue/pink/green: Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Friday for a 3-hr Glucose test

How are you feeling?: Pretty good. Still having minor heartburn problems and pelvic pain. I’ve also experienced a leg cramp a few times in the last couple of days but nothing too serious.

Rants/Raves: Rave: My mom got to feel the baby move last night. She has been pretty stubborn any time someone tries to feel her. My mom was so excited.

    Questions: None

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? Like @seeds_of_joy I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies right now. But I have always loved knitting and crocheting. My mom and grandmother both love/loved doing that and taught me how. I also love reading but have found it hard to get into anything because I can’t dedicate the time to it like I used to. On the weekends I will occasionally play a computer or video game.

Baby is the size of a(n): lettuce 🥬

    Team blue/pink/green: Pink!

Upcoming Appointments: next Monday with my new provider

How are you feeling?: Good overall. I think the iron supplement is really helping

Rants/Raves: Rave - we move Saturday! I’m so excited!! Hoping our current house will sell quickly. We did have someone drive by saying they were waiting on their house to sell and then they really want to buy ours so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

    Questions: natm

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them?  I love to hike! Especially anywhere with an incredible view or waterfall. I got into it after my husband took me on my first hiking trip. I love google the best views around here and go with friends or easy ones with the family. Haven’t been since I got pregnant though. That’d be a bit too hard.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 27w

Baby is the size of a(n): lettuce, he was 2.5 lbs today according to the ultrasound!

    Team blue/pink/green: blue 💙

Upcoming Appointments: 28th for the next fetal echo, labs, glucose, and OB appt. My new drs all coordinate together and all my appts are scheduled from here on out. 😳

How are you feeling?: personally I feel pretty good symptom wise. I’m a bit overwhelmed but what’s to come for our little guy but am trusting in God’s plan for him. I do feel confident in our new team of drs and specialists.

Rants/Raves: rave: our new team has a coordinator who collaborates with everyone to get appts scheduled and that makes my life easier and gives one less thing to worry about.

Rant: I wanted BBQ today and the place we ate as was not that great so I still want BBQ 🤣

    Questions:natm

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? My husband and I love to play nerdy board games together and with friends. We’re just getting our daughter into them too. We were originally introduced to them by a friend.

I also love crafty things but tend to jump from one project to the next lol I go through spurts of crocheting, finger knitting, random other projects. I started crafting as a kid with my grandma, she was super talented!

@amccurls congrats on the new home!

@kamays54 that’s exciting your momma felt baby move!

@seeds_of_joy congrats on the job. I hope you end up finding enjoyment in it during this season 😊

@fertile-turtle I had the craziest Foot cramp yesterday in the car! Maybe I need some magnesium too 🤔 I’ll have to ask.

  • Options
@fertile-turtle I started looking at what my insurance would cover for pumps but I just found out that our insurance might change at work so I have no idea what I'm going to be eligible for. I started to do some research but now I'll just have to wait and see.

@seeds_of_joy I can wait for her to be the size of kids jelly shoes 😂 2 more weeks.  I loved my jellies!  Also, congratulations on the new job and good luck with orientation.

@amccurls so exciting about the new home.  Hoping everything goes smoothly selling your home.  Sounds like you are in a good market still.  It's slowed down a bit by us.  That's why my parents are renting for a while until they find something they love.

@itsjess627 my BIL loves board games so anytime we get together we play something.  He has a wall full of games on shelves and two huge cabinets filled.  What are some of you favorites?

  • Options
@itsjess627 what are the names of these nerdy board games?! I'm super curious.
  • Options
@kamays54 where are you getting these baby sizes? I love them!

@fertile-turtle Let me know how things go with the electrolytes. I hope it helps you feel better! Also, check out YummyMummystore.com to navigate breast pumps with your insurance.

@seeds_of_joy I love the evolution of your letter writing hobby! Also, congrats on your new job!

@kamays54 I’m so happy your Mom got to feel your baby kick! That is such a precious moment.

@amccurls keeping my fingers crossed for your housing transition. The moving process can have its ups and downs and challenges but I hope it goes smoothly for you.

@itsjess627 My husband and I enjoy playing board games with friends too. Many are nerdy as well. I even started hosting monthly Ladies Game Night at my place with a small group of friends.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 25 weeks + 3 days

Baby is the size of a(n): Cauliflower

    Team blue/pink/green: 💚

Upcoming Appointments: Regular Midwife visit next week. Looking forward to review the anatomy scan results with her.

How are you feeling?: Much better this week! I’m back to being COVID negative. I was so fortunate that my symptoms were mild and recovered well. Also, I saw my pelvic physical therapist last week and my left sided sacroiliac joint pain finally went away. I also kept my cranial sacral appointment today and it helped me finally clear the residual sinus issues from COVID. I was able to return to play tennis tonight and it was so much fun!

    Rants/Raves:

My husband was fortunate not to get COVID in spite of his exposure and we have been apart for nearly two weeks in the house to protect him from contracting the infection. I’ve missed him in our bed and tonight is the first night we are back together in the master bedroom. I’m so happy I get to cuddle with him again.

    Questions: natm

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them?

I have a lot of hobbies. I love to travel and I have been lucky to travel early in life because my parents are immigrants and I have extended family residing across 4 continents around the world. I hope to bring the joy of travel with my future children and they get to see the amazing diversity around the globe.

I’ve also always needed an artistic outlet since I was a child. I’ve played music (piano, flute, and bassoon) and danced (Ballet, Hip hop, Asian dance, and Salsa). Currently, my artistic outlets transitioned into throwing pottery and sewing in the last decade.

How I fell into sewing has the best story which started as an ends to a means. My husband and I enjoy creating fun and original costumes to wear for our friend’s annual Halloween party. One season, my husband got a green t-shirt at a maker fair that said “Ask me about my green bean” which was an ad for a new piece of technology for makers. We decided that he would wear that t-shirt dressed as a farmer and I would dress up as a green bean. I found a green onesie to wear but didn’t have a hat to emulate the top of a green bean. From previous childhood experiences, I knew I hated hand sewing and so I decided instead to drop a few hundred dollars to purchase a sewing machine and notions. I successfully made my green bean hat and after Halloween was over, I realized that I had invested a substantial amount of money into equipment that I better utilize more than once a year. Since then, I’ve challenged myself with sewing projects and have gradually built my garment making skills over the years. It has become a useful and fun hobby to do.

  • Options
@ttc3y love the green bean story!

I love that some of you love games too!!
We have about 50ish games but my top 5 would be:
    castles of burgundy
    tiny towns
    Star Wate: outer rim
    Five Tribes
    Small World
  • Options
@itsjess627 which of these would you recommend for an intelligent 11/12 year old who loves nerdy board games ?
  • Options
@ttc3y so cool about how you got into sewing over one project! Where are your parents from?

I also played the bassoon for a short time.
  • Options
@amccurls the what to expect app has different options and one of them is 80s and 90s nostalgia. The others are movie and TV props and fruits.

@itsjess627 I’ll have to see if my BIL has any of those. A lot of the time we play Catan (and one of the many expansions or versions) because it’s one of the first games we all played together. We will try a new one every now and then. Some other favorites have been Power Grid, Carcassonne, and Ticket to Ride.

@ttc3y I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better and back with your husband. Also, that is a great story about the green bean. I also love to sew too but haven’t ventured into clothing. It’s a bit intimidating for me. I mostly make things for around the house or tote bags. Although I haven’t done it in years.
  • Options
@seeds_of_joy if he likes Star Wars I would definitely say outer rim. Second choice would be small world 😊

@kamays54 Catan is a classic! Those others are good too. I keep looking at Power Grid every time we go to the game store but haven’t made the purchase yet. I may have to look into it a little closer though 😊

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 27 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): bunch of bananas

    Team blue/pink/green: green

Upcoming Appointments:  Nov 22 is my 28 week appointment with gestational diabetes screen

How are you feeling?: still mostly awful. The pain at night is so hard and I’m not sleeping well at all.

Rants/Raves: ugh my house is a den of sickness.  My son has pink eye and starting another ear infection (he had one two  weeks ago)  My husband has an ear infection. My daughter has a cough. I’m the only one well at this point but with the way my son has been spreading his eye gunk germs everywhere 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Questions: none

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them?  The thing I love the most is reading but it’s hard to find time to do it. I joined a book club after I finally finished grad school in May and that’s been helping me read more. Other than that I just love getting out and about and finding free and cheap things to do with the family. We love history so going to museums is fun but the kids are a little bit young for that yet. Love being outdoors and hiking but the last time we took the kids my daughter lasted 5 minutes and complained her legs hurt.

@ttc3y since adding electrolytes to one of my water bottles each day, no more cramps, major or minor! Thanks for the tip!

EDD / Weeks + Days: 28 weeks today. Hello third trimester 👋

Baby is the size of a(n): Eggplant

    Team blue/pink/green: Blue

    Upcoming Appointments: Nov 21

How are you feeling?: Soooo tired and massive. I really want the next three months to be over quickly!

Rants/Raves: I’m tired of shots. I’ve gotten both the flu shot and covid booster in the past three weeks. I get the tdap next Monday. I’m worried about my weight gain again. On a happy note, I only have 12 more days of work in 2022, because I have a ton of vacation days to use.

Questions: What’s necessary to pack in your hospital bag?

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? I love dancing, but often lack the energy to do it now. I try to go to hip hop once or twice a week. I also love drawing and painting, but don’t make time to do it very often.

EDD / Weeks + Days: 27 weeks- one more week left of this trimester! 😁

Baby is the size of a(n): bunch of bananas 🍌

    Team blue/pink/green: blue 💙

Upcoming Appointments: Next week I have another ultrasound scheduled the day before Thanksgiving and then an appointment the Monday after Thanksgiving 😊

How are you feeling?: Tired, big, easily nauseated still. I’ve been trying to get in more working out from time to time, but this remains my sickest pregnancy to date and I get easily set off by lots of things. Like @karbaud just said, looking forward to these last few months zipping by!!!

Rants/Raves: Rave- my in-laws joined us over the weekend to celebrate our oldest daughter’s 12th birthday. They even treated us to a little Thanksgiving dinner since we’re not going to get to see them on Thanksgiving itself and the food was great!! Lots of fun. Rant- my husband and I are still looking for jobs, and there are so many dumb ways people are scamming right now through sites like Indeed. Frustrating and kind of depressing.

    Questions: Nothing at the moment

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? Acting, singing, and yoga are my main activities. I got into music when I started playing piano in third grade and then gradually moved on to vocal performance and acting in high school. Yoga has been in my life since my early 20s. I started with hot yoga and moved on from there when I got bored with it, lol. I’m a certified Kundalini yoga instructor, and I love breath work and meditation most of all. Great for my anxiety ❤️

@seeds_of_joy  Yay! Glad to know there is another double reed player in the group! My father is from Hong Kong and my mother is from the Philippines. But I don’t have any family in Hong Kong any more since China’s take over in 1997. I have family that has immigrated to Europe, Oceania, and North America.

@fertile-turtle Yay!!! I’m so happy the electrolytes worked and you are now cramp free!

@kamays54 Love Settlers of Catan! One of my favorite games to play!

@karbaud I’ve been needing to nap daily recently in the last few days. I can’t figure out if this is because of pregnancy or post COVID. Or maybe it’s both! And I haven’t made it to 3rd trimester just quite yet…

@cpk3535 Good to have you back! You’ve been missed!  I love doing yoga too. I also discovered it in my 20’s as well and my practice has gotten me through some tough times in life. I’m trying to get back to it right now to manage through the pregnancy and prepare for labor and delivery.

Baby is the size of a(n): eggplant (which seems so BIG 🥴)

    Team blue/pink/green: 💙🌈

Upcoming Appointments: today! I’m sitting in the OB’s office now and she’s running 30 min behind so I have some time to kill 😅

How are you feeling?: bigger by the day but more and more grateful every time I can consistently count his kicks/field goals

Rants/Raves: I’m so grateful for my husband these days. Normally I’m a pretty independent person, but recently I’ve turned into Cinderella once 8pm hits and he’s just taken care of everything around the house.

Questions: does anyone else have the sleep insomnia now in the 3rd trimester? I am plenty active and fall asleep just fine, but my internal clock now is a 4am start time apparently. I think it’s also the baby consistently having a wake window around then, but I’ve never been an early riser.

GTKY: What are your hobbies and how did you get into them?

I love any sport that includes a ball and will also play any board game. I came from a family with 6 kids and playing outside was our daily ritual so I think I’ve always been wired to be outside during the day until the street lights come on 🤣🤣 I walk the dog daily once I come home after work (it’s a habitual habit for me now too and I listen to audiobooks as I do it).

  • Options
@cpk3535 I was ADDICTED to hot Pilates & yoga for years, although I never got the breath work down during yoga.
  • Options
@kb1322 my baby has an awake window at around midnight to 2 am.  I wouldn’t say I have insomnia but my sleep is definitely crap.  Sorry you’re having trouble too!!

Hey all! What did your drs tell you about the gestational diabetes test? Mine said to eat my normal breakfast then come in and do the test. So weird to me since with my daughter I had to fast. That was 7 years ago, so I’m sure things have changed 🤣 I typically eat eggs and veggies for breakfast. I just don’t want to do anything that will trigger an unnecessary 3 hour test.

My midwife was going to let me eat a particular meal before the test but my new dr said my two choices are to drink the drink or prick my finger 4x a day for a week 😑🫠
  • Options
@itsjess627 my doctor didn’t give me any instructions and my appt was at 2:30 so I just ate like normal
  • Options
@itsjess627 Ideally it’s best to fast if you have an early morning test. But if you can’t fast, focus on eating veggies and protein and avoid carbs and sugar (especially anything refined).

One alternative that no one talks about is using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for two weeks. There are less finger pricks but it’s a more expensive option. Unfortunately in the US, insurance won’t cover it.

I decided not to do the glucose tolerance test for various reasons and used a combination of CGM and occasional finger pricks to track my blood glucose through this pregnancy. You can get a one month supply at Costco for $73 and get more instantaneous data to see how your diet and exercise affects your blood glucose.
  • Options
@itsjess627, my doctor told me to eat normally, but the nurse said to fast. That made it very confusing. I planned to just drop in to do an early morning test, so I fasted. However, time got away from me, and I didn’t start the test until around noon. Because I fasted, I almost passed out. Otherwise, the test was fine with good results.
  • Options
    @amccurls & @karbaud thank you!

@ttc3y thanks so much for all the info. I would prefer not to do the drink but being high risk because of our little guy makes me feel a little stuck. 😵‍💫 I’ve only met the new team once since I just switched over. I’m going to look into the supplies from Costco and see if they’ll be willing to allow me to do something else.
