PIO Shots/Medrol Side Effects?

Hi everyone, new to this community and hope you are all staying strong on your journey! I’m preparing for my second FET attempt after a failed cycle. Have felt fine on the daily Estrace, though after adding in PIO shots 5 days pre-transfer and Medrol 4-days pre-transfer, feeling a number of unpleasant side effects: nausea, feeling of hot and cold, trouble sleeping, then the ongoing soreness from the PIO shots. Trying to gauge what’s typical with these meds. Anyone else feeling run down and blah pre-transfer? Last cycle, I thought I was coming down with something, but because the symptoms are similar this time (3 months later), I’m convinced it’s the meds. Will be calling my doc’s office when they open tomorrow to ask, but thought I’d check here in the meantime to see if this is common. Thank you all in advance!

Re: PIO Shots/Medrol Side Effects?

  • I’m on day 5 of shots and day 16 of medrol. I have been having nausea from the medrol. My doctor said to make sure I eat before taking it to help with the nausea. The soreness from the progesterone shots is really starting to get to me. I’ve experienced insomnia the last few nights.
  • Yes and yes. Medrol can cause sleep challenges and nausea. It’s possible that it’s also causing the feelings of hot and cold. I struggled with the PIO shots where walking and climbing stairs were hard at times - I had to take it until week 10 of pregnancy. I alternated injection sites including using my deltoids when the backside got too sore. I was able to get a PIO solution that reduced the volume from 2mL sesame oil to 1 mL with ester oleate. I used heating pads and my husband would deeply massage the injection sites to help with absorption. If all else failed, a massage with myofascial release helped tremendously. I wish you the best on this journey. Take the PIO shots one day at a time to manage the mental endurance. Think about how much you look forward to having a beautiful baby in your arms. It will be worth it. ❤️

cyoung2022 — Thank you for your note — so sorry to hear you’ve been feeling unwell on the meds, too! I spoke to a pharmacist who said the Medrol can be really tough on the body and can cause the nausea and insomnia. Her recommendation was to take it with food or milk, and making sure to do so has really helped the last couple of days. Hope you are hanging in there with the shots — not pleasant, but so worth it in the long run!
  • ttc3y — Thank you so much for your response, yes spoke with a pharmacist who said the exact same thing as you, that the Medrol will cause both the nausea and insomnia. Thankfully has been better the last two days when taken with food/milk and have been able to eat and sleep normally again. Appreciate your encouragement — not the easiest road to take but so incredibly worth it. Sending well wishes your way, too!
