The VBAC Thread

Are you planning for or considering a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean)? Want to share your experience with a VBAC? Let's talk about it here!

Re: The VBAC Thread

  • Picking up where I left off from my CS saga (I promise this won't be as long :p )
I first started researching VBACs after my 6wk postpartum checkup. My OB told me, "When I cut you open, it looked like you'd never been cut open before! " And I sat there thinking, "Oh really? After all this time you told me that I would probably rupture? " I found an Instagram account where moms shared the names of their VBAC-friendly doctors (I will share it if I can find it again!) and managed to find someone local at a different hospital system. He listened to my whole backstory and said I was a good candidate! It's weird being a STM but preparing for labor like it's my first. I have no idea what to expect or how I'll react! :dizzy:

  • @hestia-is-wearie ahh yay for a VBAC! I was a VBAC (my older brother and younger sister were both c-sections and I was born at 41+ weeks, my poor mother) in the 90's which is wild. So glad your doctor is on board!!
  • I’ve started the conversation with my mfm and the midwives about wanting a VBAC if possible. So far it seems like I’m a good candidate. With my DS, it was almost 11 years ago and the shortest version of the story starts after having been on a moderately high dose of prednisone for an autoimmune disorder the entire time, I started spotting and going in and out of labor at 34wks. I spent 4 days in the hospital being monitored when they started to induce with pitocin. I didn’t want an epidural, things were progressing but then stalled at 7cm, shift change happened and I was left alone for an hour with contractions almost every minute. By the time someone got back to me, baby was in distress and I was forced into a CS. I had a lot of trauma and anxiety from my experience and am really hoping for a better one this time. It was my biggest reason for changing to the midwife practice
  • I have had both- my first was induced vaginal at 41 weeks and went pretty quick and smooth. I tore a little/got some stitches but honestly I’d rather do 10 of those than another c section. I will say I think my labor was pretty textbook and that I know others aren’t so lucky. My twins were elective c section and I choose it because I didn’t want to end up with a vaginal and c section birth if baby b wasn’t in the right position after baby a came. I hated the section- i didn’t get skin to skin time at all. I saw the babies for two minutes. It felt cold and quick and I didn’t bond with them the way I bonded with my first until a couple of days later. I hated that I couldn’t move until basically the next day and even then it was hard to get around. I felt super vulnerable and helpless. It didn’t help that I had post partum hemorrhage and cardiomypathy so I ended up being a mess. With 3 other kids to care for in addition to baby this time I need to rebound as quick as possible to I’m really hoping this vbac works! My provider seems to think I have a great chance at success. I’m weirdly excited to labor and deliver him. I’m scared but I also can’t wait.
