3rd Trimester

Cord blood/tissue collection

Hi all,
I am starting my third trimester and I am thinking about having cord blood collection, what is your experience with it? I am from UK and things work a bit differently there so I am looking for help with it here in US. I have some info from my doc but I would like to hear your real experience. How much did you pay for the collection in the hospital? Did they perform the collection all good? I am not sure where I will give birth yet so I do not know if that can be problematic. Which private bank have you chosen and why? I would like to have it as some form of insurance for my little one, although I hope I will never have to use it. There are so many options available.

thanks x

Re: Cord blood/tissue collection

  • Hey! I’m not sure where you’re at in pregnancy and if I’m too late on responding but with our daughter we went with cord blood registry 7 years ago. You just order the kit and bring it to the hospital with you. They don’t charge until the hospital actually sends it in. Prices have changed drastically since then. What once cost us 120 a year, I just paid 195 to have to stored. The initial was a couple thousand dollars. We choose CBR because of their location, in the middle of no where away from natural disaster areas. We also choose them because in our opinion, at the time, they seemed most straight forward and organized. We choose to bank with our daughter because we wanted that insurance policy for her as well but also if anyone else needed it. CBR does a lot of research which is cool.

This time we’re choosing delayed cord clamping for various reasons but have had a good experience with cord blood banking too 😊
