Stabbing pains

I am 20 wks pregnant and this week I started having intense stabbing pains in my pelvic area. They hurt so much when I bend, sit, walk, sneeze, laugh and cry. Especially sudden movements. Went for tests yesterday all is coming back ok and baby is fine too. They are thinking it can be my fibroid growing and it’s pretty large now. Anyone else have something similar to this??? 😢

Re: Stabbing pains

  • I have had stabbing pains in my lower abdomen when sneezing and as I stand up from sitting. I’ve read that it is probably round ligament pain. It only lasts for a few seconds each time. Not sure if it’s similar to what you are experiencing.

  • My first thought is round ligament, too. If a change of position helps, it only lasts a short period, and is in that general area, it's probably that. It helped me to sit when I had to sneeze or cough and avoid sudden movements. Sometimes I would describe it as a stabbing pain, but sometimes shooting or throbbing. However, your doctor should be very familiar with round ligament pain, so there might be a reason they're thinking fibroid rather than ligament, so you should ask them.
  • I did experience this too just in the last couple of days right when 20 weeks hit. It sounds like yours is worse though - mine hasn’t been unbearable but has lasted for hours before going away for awhile then coming back. It also feels like my whole lower abdominal area. I saw my doc today and she said Tylenol is safe if the pain is really bothering me. Hope round ligament pain is all it is for you too!
  • Sounds very normal ligament pain, since it occurs only in those movements.
