Kegal trainers?

Has anyone used a kegal trainer such as the Elvie or KGoal to prepare for birth? I have heard enough stories on leaking after birth that I want to make sure my pelvic floor is in great shape so I can hopefully prevent issues in the future. I already leak when I sneeze sometimes. I am terrible at remembering to do kegals and am wondering if anyone has had success with these trainers (or other methods). I like the idea of the Elvie since it gives you feedback on whether you are doing them correctly (apparently many women do them incorrectly, which can cause damage). Their website says there is no reason not to use it during pregnancy, just like everything it says to ask your doctor. I asked my doctor who said she hasn’t heard of these devices and that she could refer me to pelvic floor PT, which I’d rather avoid since I honestly don’t have time for that. Would love anyone’s thoughts/ experience on this! Thanks!

Re: Kegal trainers?

  • @firsttimemamafromboston I have not used one but had considered it during my last pregnancy. I ended up doing pelvic floor therapy after giving birth to my son and it was the best decision ever. I believe I did about 8 weeks of PT. I also follow a few pelvic floor therapists on Instagram and none of them (including my own PT) recommend these devices. They usually aren't used properly and could do more harm than good.
