How are you feeling?: pretty good, honestly. Love this sweet spot of the second trimester!
Rants/Raves: my skin is DRY. Seasonal changes + pregnancy does this to my skin. I have the flakiest forehead right now
Questions: nope
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
My boys are starting to be old enough to take on little holiday outings during Christmas time to see the lights and that’s been a real favorite the last couple of years!
How are you feeling?: Just battling seasonal colds and allergies and fatigue.
Rants/Raves: not at the moment
Questions: not at the moment
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)? The only holiday we really get into (besides thanksgiving because who doesn't like to eat) is Christmas. We didn't always put up a tree but when we started a handful of years ago, the kids loved it so it became one of my favorite traditions. At first it was stressful but now that they are older and can figure it out themselves, it's more fun. We have an odd combination of mine and my husband's childhood ornaments, new ones, hand made ones, and names of Jesus paper ornaments. It's fun to see how the tree evolves over the years. My husband also got us hooked on Christmas music starting in November and I probably had it on my alarm clock through most of summer. We've never done Santa clause with our children but I'm quite sure Christmas is still their favorite time of the year.
Upcoming Appointments: currently Nov 3 but I’m switching to a different hospital
How are you feeling?: Physically, good. Emotionally, exhausted.
Rants/Raves: I just love feeling my little guy wiggle around every day 💙 I’m thankful to know he’s safe daily.
Questions: Any other mommas have a potential CHD diagnosis for their littles? I know the odds are slim but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask again.
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)? All the Christmas traditions. We love celebrating Jesus. We bake a TON of cookies all together. We always drive around and look at lights Christmas Eve and have hot cocoa. Christmas movies. Christmas breakfast. A slow Christmas Day. It’s my favorite.
I love that everyone has said Christmas so far as well. There’s something I’ve always loved so much about that season.
Upcoming Appointments: OB on Thursday (first time ever seeing someone other than a MW!)
How are you feeling?: Generally okay but I have no stamina - stairs are the worst! I also have been waking from around 2-4 or 3-5 most mornings which is just not fun. I'm not looking forward to my pregnancy insomnia getting worse.
Rants/Raves: I'm back to teaching in person again for the first time since Feb/Mar 2020! It was surreal and exciting to get to actually see my students in person again - I teach at a university. Of course, I already had one student miss class with Covid but we've kept some of our online workarounds in place so students shouldn't get too behind if they have to miss class. I meet another batch of students on Thursday. On the one hand, I really missed people. On the other hand, seeing the masses of young humanity swarming around campus yesterday was a bit intimidating
Questions: NATM
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)? This is actually a really hard question for me. I share custody of my older kids which means I only get them for every other holiday, and it's more related to school schedules than national or religious events. I guess I'd say that setting up and watching them do an Easter egg hunt in the back garden is my favorite thing. They love it and our sweet neighbor next door loves to watch/listen to it too and they lower a little chocolate something for each kid over our shared fence. It's really sweet. Personally, I love New Year's Eve because I love the turning of the year and welcoming a change. In the years I don't have the kids I go to Italy and we watch the midnight fireworks over the bay from our friends garden and it's magical. When this baby is born he can hang out with Nonna and Nonno while we go party 😁
Team blue/pink/green: green and it is driving everyone crazy.
Upcoming Appointments: my next one is on Halloween.
How are you feeling?: ugh I feel like I’m stuck with nausea for the entire pregnancy. It’s better than it was but definitely still there😫 I don’t even remember what it’s like to not feel sick anymore.
Rants/Raves: Celebrated our 7th anniversary yesterday. A friend actually baby sat for us and we got to go out for a nice dinner which is our tradition. We usually go to the ballet as well but this year it was one we’ve already gone to so we skipped that. Rant is the lack of sleep I’ve been getting between just crap sleep and my son not sleeping and being fussy I’m exhausted during the day. And my husband isn’t sleeping either and it’s making him grumpy.
Questions: none
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)? I love all traditions but I love our Christmas tradition of driving around looking at Christmas lights and getting hot chocolate. Also we try to go to one big light display like zoo lights every year and that’s fun too.
Upcoming Appointments: regular check-in with the midwife Thursday
How are you feeling?:
Tired! I think I may be anemic - I have a history of pretty severe anemia, and I’m suddenly having a lot of the same symptoms: fatigue, easy bruising, high pulse (and premature atrial contractions, which are benign but more common in anemia), and shortness of breath. I did call the nurse’s line and got the ok to start extra iron supplements before my appointment, and we’ll do blood work Thursday to check everything out. I just wish I could make it through a full day of work without almost falling asleep every time I sit down.
Rants/Raves:
Rant: I hate that my energy levels are dropping when they’re “supposed” to be as good as they get during pregnancy.
Rave: We had old friends and their kids (4 and 1) visiting for a few days last week, and we all had such a good time! It was fun watching my husband figure out how to really interact with the kids, because he’s never spent much time around babies and small children. It just reminded me how confident I am that he’s going to be such a good dad, and I can’t wait to see him with our baby.
Questions: Natm
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
I used to love Halloween (or more accurately, trick-or-treat night). It was always the whole family meeting at my grandma’s house, eating pizza together, going out trick-or-treating or staying behind to hand out candy, coming back to the house when we were too tired. It was like Thanksgiving or Christmas, but without the pressure of multiple events and houses to go to, just a low-key family gathering. That hasn’t been a thing for 6 years, but my parents and brother are already planning to come up next Halloween and I’m excited to revive parts of that tradition 🧡🖤
Baby is the size of a(n): coconut for now, we’ll see tomorrow!
Team blue/pink/green: 💓
Upcoming Appointments: Had one today with new doctor, have another Tuesday with my doctor at home.
How are you feeling?: I feel good, but tired. I also am struggling to sleep and my hips hurt sleeping on my side (I’m usually a back sleeper). I love feeling her move around, but I’m also ready to be done already.
Rants/Raves:
Questions:
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
I also love Christmas! We decorate the night of thanksgiving after dinner if we’re not home too late. This year we’ll be traveling and will have just moved into our temporary apartment so I’ll get a small tree up when I can and won’t decorate too much other than the stockings. However, we used to live in this area years ago and they have a walk through Christmas story and I’m super excited to take my son through for the first time!
Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow with yet another random OB/GYN. Kaiser’s system is so weird. My “assigned” OB/GYN just had to cancel the rest of her appointments for the entire month of October. I don’t actually know why she’s my assigned doc- I’ve only seen her in person once!! Lol 😂
How are you feeling?: Okay. I feel like I’m expanding quickly. I’m very tired and my headaches & allergies are driving me nuts. It mostly just feels exaggerated due to the pregnancy.
Rants/Raves: Raves- lots of movements with the baby, so that’s giving me some peace of mind!
Questions: Not at the moment
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
We used to go to an apple farm near our old place, but since that’s waaaay far away now, we’re hoping to carry on the tradition and go to a new apple farm that my husband discovered online this year only a couple of hours away! I hope it’s good- raw apples have been a favorite this whole pregnancy.
How are you feeling?: Ok. Still having mornong headaches but they could be from other things. I've been sick with a bad cold and cough and it was hard not being able to take any medicine to help relieve the symptoms. I seem to be taking an extra long time recovering but slowly getting there! I had my 20 week ultrasound and everything was positive so that has helped my anxiety a lot. Other than that just tired!
Rants/Raves: I started feeling a little movement for the first time this week! Also my last ultrasound was at 8 weeks so this one at 20w was so cool! We got to see so much more and the tech talked us through everything she was looking at and printed off a bunch of photos.
I started prenatal yoga and it has been so nice to meet other moms to be in the community, and the instructor is also a doula so she gives lots of information at the same time.
Questions: is anyone else dealing with tailbone pain when sitting? Any solutions?
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)? Hmmm I love them all but probably all the fun things leading up to Christmas: choosing and decorating a tree, putting up lights, baking cookies, etc.
We also just celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday (in Canada) which felt like the beginning of fall and was just so nice.
@skibunnie2 I have tailbone pain too. I usually sit on a ball chair at work, use a heating pad at home, and try to change positions often. So if it hurts while sitting I’ll stand for a bit and vice versa.
@cpk3535 oh Kaiser…. I had them with my other two pregnancies and I don’t for this one so it feels all new and very weird.
@amccurls so much hip pain here too when I sleep on my side. I’m not a back sleeper at all but it is way more comfortable for me and I know you aren’t really supposed to sleep on your back 🤷🏻♀️
@fertile-turtle it was so amazing for me watching my husband with our daughter. He was also not a huge kid person and I didn’t really get to see him around kids much but he’s an awesome father.
@skibunnie2, I’ve been having tailbone pain for about a month now. I have no remedies. I just switch positions a lot and complain a lot.
EDD / Weeks + Days: 23 weeks tomorrow
Baby is the size of a(n): grapefruit
Team blue/pink/green: blue
Upcoming Appointments: October 21
How are you feeling?: okay. It’s hard to stand up, and I get out of breath walking up our stairs. I still have tailbone pain constantly.
Rants/Raves:
Rant: My boobs will not stop growing, and I absolutely hate it. Im going to be so mad if they don’t return to their original size after I’m done breastfeeding.
Rave: I’m feeling pretty good overall.
Questions: Any traveling tips while pregnant? I have to fly to Toronto in a few weeks for work.
GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
I love Christmas. My favorite tradition is wrapping presents and crafting giant bows to go on them. I’m sad that I’ll be too far along to travel to my parents this Christmas.
@karbaud mine usually go up 2 cup sizes and are even bigger for a while after birth. When I was done nursing after a decade of this, they were actually smaller but my back felt better...until now. I imagine it's difficult for those who already have a larger chest. I think I bought nursing bras too soon this time and might need to go up a cup size.
Upcoming Appointments: pelvic physical therapy tomorrow, anatomy scan and next midwife appointment at the end of this month. I’ve switched midwives after the first one was not working out.
How are you feeling?: I feel pretty good overall. My thyroid meds were adjusted and my constipation issue is easing. Now I’m dealing with the aftermath - hemorrhoids but witch hazel and time seem to resolving that.
Rants/Raves:
Rave - I’m feeling my baby move almost daily now. It’s such a fascinating feeling and looking forward to the time I can share the baby movement with my husband.
Rave - My husband and I just got back from our babymoon. We went to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada! 🇨🇦 We spent most of it outdoors hiking trails in the evergreen woods and along pebble beaches (which is a nice reprieve for me since I live in the desert). We had a fantastic time. I also got to see an old family friend whom I haven’t seen in nearly 20 years (I used to see her every summer as a kid) and meet her husband and kids for the first time. We celebrated our first Canadian Thanksgiving with them!

GTKY: What’s your favorite holiday tradition (for any holiday)?
Ever since my husband and I have been together, we enjoy coming up with creative Halloween costumes. This year, my husband and his best friend (who so happen to be visiting the weekend we have a Halloween party to attend) will dress up as Mario and Luigi from the Nintendo game. I’m planning to dress up the lower half of my body as Toad and utilize my baby bump to make toad’s mushroom head. I’ve bought the fabric and materials and excited to work on constructing it.
@karbaud I’ve had the opposite problem with my boobs. They have barely grown since becoming pregnant and I am still using my pre-pregnancy A cup bras. I was looking forward to having more cleavage but oh well! I guess all of our bodies are different. Wouldn’t it be easier if all boob sizes just averaged out amongst all the women in the world and then no one would be upset of our boobs being too big or too small?
@angbaby83 and other toddler moms… OMG, my daughter has been so off the last couple of nights for sleep. Today, I’m going to make sure she gets a ton of activity and tonight we’re going to sleep early, no matter what else is going on in the house. I’m going to lose my mind over here if I have to stay up this late again!! Maybe we’re switching to her no nap time zone…ugh 😣
@ttc3y When I was pregnant the first time, my boobs didn’t expand much until the very end. I’m also not that big of a person normally, so I remember actually being the biggest for like a month right at the end of pregnancy and then I went back down to fairly normal size (like maybe 1 cup size larger) after baby was born. Good news is that it didn’t seem to affect my milk supply to be a smaller mama boob-wise. If anything, my SIL who is naturally much bigger than me had a much harder time with breast feeding because her nipples were so big for baby’s mouth. This round, I’m much bigger now because i was still breastfeeding my toddler when we got pregnant, but normally I wouldn’t be this big yet!
