Re: Weekly Symptoms 10/3

  • 4w2d according to LMP.  I had a bit of mild cramping last night and very minor nausea at night the past few nights.  Honestly, I had barely any pregnancy symptoms with DS so I am not expecting much!

  • 5w1d and I'm feeling all the symptoms, which doesn't surprise me as it was this way for my other two. One new thing is that I randomly get cold throughout the day, suddenly I'm just freezing, I didn't have that before.
Other than that all the uterine cramping, nausea all day, sense of smell is dialed up to a billion, extreme food aversions, dry mouth, thirst, really sore breasts, emotional 😭, and peeing a ton. The only thing that hasn't hit me terribly hard yet is fatigue but I know it's coming.

  • @kalesix3 ahh yes, the fatigue!   That has been slowly rolling in on me.

  • @ReadyForaB I can't remember when exactly it started hitting me last time but I remember it wasn't right away like my other symptoms so it's a waiting game at this point. I don't know if I'd rather a slow downhill spiral into fatigue or just all at once and get it over with lol.
I can't tolerate caffeine and I have a 2 year old so it should be fun haha.
  • The SMELLS.... it's like I'm constantly overstimulated by all the smells.
  • @sunny_native14
Same here! The other day everything smelled like a dog, we don't have pets and have never had a dog in our home but I smelled it everywhere and made me so sick 🤢
  • Definitely the sore boobs, some fatigue(especially since I’ve cut out a lot of caffeine) and smells seem so strong! Currently estimating I’m 5 weeks and 1 day as well!
  • I vomited at work this morning…which is way earlier than that started with my other pregnancies. 4w0d today. I got sent home. I’m going to have to cover it up much better if I’m going to keep this a secret
  • @cassafrass123 oh no!   I hope it eases up for you!

The exhaustion has officially hit me full force.  I have work and then a baseball game right after today.  I left the house at 7:30 a.m. and I won't return home until about 7:00 p.m.  Ugh!!!!

  • @ReadyForaB I'm really surprised it hasn't hit me yet. By this time last pregnancy I was napping everyday, maybe all fatigue just doesn't hit me the same since I've been up with a baby/toddler at night for 2 years 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've had some days where I could have used a nap but nothing like the debilitating fatigue last time. I hope it's nothing to worry about, it seems so unnatural to have so much energy.
Your day away from home sounds miserable, fx you can get an early bedtime at least 🤞🏻
  • My current symptoms are nausea, light headache, TIRED lol, and a dry mouth. I'm honestly shocked by these symptoms because they're way different from my pregnancies with my two DSs! My boobs were my first major symptoms with them, nips so sore I cried. This time...crickets on the nip front. I'm also way less nauseated, but that could be because I immediately got on meds (I've had HG both times before). Kinda wondering if maybe baby is a girl? But don't really buy in to that idea necessarily because every pregnancy is soo different.
  • Oh and I forgot, water tastes like sewage. Anyone else get the water aversion while pregnant?? So inconvenient.
  • @thescarletmom I always heard you're way more likely to have HG with girls so it's cool to think maybe your experience will be the opposite and your baby will be a girl! Fingers crossed the nausea doesn't have a change to get a foothold with the meds 🤞🏻 I have never experienced that with water but usually I guzzle water out of my giant straw and lately having a mouth full of water triggers my gag reflex 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have to sip more and guzzle less lol, so I feel like I'm constantly thirsty and not drinking enough which isn't possible since I drink a gallon a day.
  • @kalesix3 right, people always think girl when mom has bad morning sickness! It would be so funny to me if this one is a girl! I usually have a good intuition as to baby's sex after a few weeks, but I have no inkling yet.

Straws are the only way I survived pregnancy without being dehydrated! It's easier for me to take smaller sips that way because I also getting the gagging issue when I have a mouthful. My sweet DH is trying to find me a bunch of water flavoring options to help.
  • @thescarletmom I was soooo picky about water with my first! I couldn’t stomach tap, and I only liked certain brands. It was a mess!
  • @thescarletmom what about electrolyte powder? Boobie brand has some hydromom that I loved during my last pregnancy 🙌🏻
I am totally addicted to straws so I get it! It's just the superior drinking experience lol!
Are you going to find out or wait till birth? It will be so cool to see if you get an inkling and whether it's right!! I don't find out but I do feel hunches and I've been right each time lol.
  • @cassafrass123 I can't stomach tap water/am super picky even not pregnant 😂 but it is def worse when I am. Like the bottled water my office stocks in the kitchen nearly took me out this morning! And it was just fine last week. If the water isn't ice cold too that's huge, makes it nastier.
  • I'm not entirely sure but I think the worst of pregnancy fatigue I'm having is manifesting as extreme irritability and not as the sleeping all day kind like I had with my son. I'm never irritable in pregnancy and I can blame stress and life upheaval too but I am so irritated at everything the past few days and I know I must be tired because my son hasn't been sleeping and waking up at the crack of dawn, but my body doesn't feel exhausted at all, just pissed lol. What a fun symptom 😂
  • @kalesix3 oh no! I'm also finding my tiredness feels different than with my sons? Like if I'm awake, I'm awake, no falling asleep on the couch sitting straight up. But the moment someone in the house closes their eyes all bets are off lol
  • @thescarletmom oh that so interesting how you can compare fatigue types too! It makes me even more curious if you're having a girl! I had a hard time sleeping during my daughter's pregnancy but the fatigue and exhaustion was really similar to my son's, though not as extreme, but since then I've gone through the newborn stage and coslept with a restless toddler so I'm sure I'm always in a state of exhaustion and my body has just adjusted accordingly lol. I got back on my thyroid meds though, a smaller dose but last time I was on it I could barely wake up and had to take a nap just to survive so fingers crossed the smaller dose doesn't turn me into a zombie
  • I'm having the worst insomnia! It happens to me every pregnancy and that, combined with massive fatigue, plus working and taking care of two little ones is kicking my butt. Like I'm borderline non-functional 😔
  • @kalesix3 this pregnancy just feels SO different in like every way haha. I always struggle with insomnia while pregnant but I've slept literally so soundly since I found out. And I'm cosleeping with a restless toddler too so solidarity haha
  • @sunny_native14 oof it's the worst, do you take magnesium? I heard about it for insomnia about halfway through my first pregnancy and it has been a lifesaver ever since, it doesn't make me sleep too soundly I can't get up with my toddler but if he sleeps through the night so do I and it's magical for insomnia. You can take capsules, a magnesium drink or magnesium lotion like the kind 8sheep organics makes 🙌🏻

@thescarletmom it sounds like so many of the differences this time are big positives like sleeping better and less sickness overall! Mine is a mix of new and familiar, I can't wait to see how things go. It's really cool that we both see midwives, usually in my due date groups I'm the only one who goes to a midwife so it's always nice to see someone else doing the same thing!
  • @kalesix3 I think i may have spoke too soon on the less sick because its progressively ramped up every day haha, but the sleep is still 👌🏼 and I'll take it! I LOVE comparing pregnancy symptoms because its just so fascinating to me. And I love my midwife! She's been amazing. I don't think I've ever had a fellow homebirther in one of my bmb's but have had a small handful who see midwives! Does your midwife work out of a hospital or birthing center?
  • @kalesix3 @thescarletmom I see midwives (out of a birth center), too! My last was a home birth and it was the most incredible experience.... it's honestly one of aspects I'm looking most forward to. I also cosleep with my 1.5 and 3.5 DDs. So much in common!
Thanks for the magnesium recommendation @kalesix3. I just reordered my supplements I ran out of a few weeks ago and really hoping that makes a difference... this mama is exhausted.
  • @thescarletmom oh no I'm so sorry to hear that sickness is becoming worse, I hope it doesn't get too bad with the meds 🤞🏻
I agree, comparing symptoms is really fascinating, I try not to let it give me too much anxiety and just focus on the fascinating aspects.
My midwives have a birth center which I absolutely love, but some of them also have private practices for homebirths, and they come to your house to do your postpartum visits so yoyre not taking a newborn out when you're recovering.  We're planning to move out of Colorado sometime in the next few months and I'm so sad at the prospect of leaving the birth center and midwives, they truly are the best care providers I've ever known, I'm breaking my heart a little that I may never get to have another baby in the birth center.

@sunny_native14 oh that's incredible! I am so glad to find others with things in common!!
I always saw myself being a hardcore homebirthers but I don't think I could ever be after my daughter died but I really admire others who do! I'm glad it was so magical and awesome for you! The convenience aspect is 🤌🏻
It seems like all three of us are on baby number 3? That's so cool!
I really hope the supplements get your sleep back on track and get you some energy, fatigue with two toddlers sounds like no joke 😵‍💫
  • @kalesix3 @sunny_native14 neat how we do all have the same things commons! While I completely LOVED my homebirth experience, I totally get that it will not be for everyone. And a birth center can be a happy medium! I have some medical trauma from before my kids were born that keeps me from feeling safe and comfortable in a hospital setting, so that's what lead me to homebirth initially. I think especially going into pregnancy with my third baby, I'm very comfortable and happy with the more hands-off approach that tends to come with homebirth (though my midwife has always answered any call and let me show up to her house late at night if I was scared and needed to hear baby's heartbeat).

@kalesix3 are you planning to move far? My DH and I are both born and raised in Kansas City and know we'll never have the guts to leave lol, but every once in a while I think of what it would be like to move to a new city!

@sunny_native14 honestly SHOCKED to see another homebirther! In some of my other bmb's I avoided even mentioning it because there were some big voices on the board who I knew would be judgy about it. I'm so happy that we have that in common! Excited to chat more about our experiences as pregnancy goes on 🙂

@thescarletmom I %100 feel you with medical trauma previous to kids, I had so much healing I had to do and honestly I'm so glad we live in Colorado because my experience when I have had to go to the hospital and see mfm specialists with my son went so much better than I ever could have hoped for. They were seriously so chill and crunchy and that's been pretty standard across the board for all the care providers I've found. (with the exception of the terrible midwife I had with with my daughter.) In that way I've had a pretty opposite experience than a lot of people I think.
We are planning to move to the PNW from Colorado, and both states we're looking at seem to have really great midwifery culture and freestanding birth centers so I'm happy for that.
We moved to Colorado from Washington DC before our daughter was born and we didn't have any family or friends out here, we just relocated by ourselves and it was honestly great, I'm so glad we did and I love Colorado more than anywhere I've ever lived. I interned on a CSA in Missouri years and years ago and went to Kansas city all the time! It was such a cool city!
  • @kalesix3 I'm so sorry you had such a terrible midwife with your daughter 🥺 I think doctors/medical professionals forget how much trauma they have the power to cause patients sometimes. The wrong nurse in the hospital might mean you need years of therapy.

Super impressed that you guys can make such huge moves on your own! I'm too much of a scaredy cat to start over and not know where the best target is nearby 😂 but I would happily take a summer home in Boston! If I *had* to move out of state, it would be there!
  • @thescarletmom oh Boston would be absolutely beautiful!! I went through a phase earlier this year of being obsessed with moving to new England but ultimately decided taxes were just too high. It's really sad, the best places to live are all so pricey 😭 probably for good reason though! If you do move just Google maps everything and join a local group to get recommendations and make the transition smoother but there are still some growing pains and things to miss wherever you are.
  • @thescarletmom while home birth would never be for me, I totally get the need to be comfortable! My OBGYN practice is always completely swamped and the visits tend to be pretty short, BUT whenever it’s time to go to the hospital no matter who is there I’ve always gotten the most compassionate care. It makes such a huge difference to be comfortable with your carers.

I had a traumatic birth with my first and the things I most remember are how they brought every decision to me with all the information to make it, how they helped me calm down before the emergency c-section so that I could stay awake, and how they stayed late to check on me afterwards even though their shift was over. It matters so much that you’re emotional needs are included in the whole!
