Hyperemesis

Hey mamas, I know there are symptoms threads but if you also have HG you know it’s beyond the norm. Looking for anyone else dealing with this. I have already had to go in 4 times for fluids, waiting on home fluids/IV meds but my insurance company is dragging on approval. Hard to work, do anything around the house, and just so frustrating!

Anyone else?

I don't, I'm afraid - I find 'regular' pregnancy nausea bad enough, so I can't even imagine what you go through, it sounds horrific. Can't believe you have to fight with insurance on top of it! Just wanted to wish you well, hope your symptoms improve and you have a happier, easier pregnancy onwards ❤ (Also remember to cut yourself some slack, the home and garden might be untidy for a while, never killed anyone, and you're deling with plenty already!).

  • Omg thank you. This was such a wonderful message (cue the tears). It’s so frustrating, I found a FB group with some other mamas. Thank you for the kind words.
  • Wonderful to hear you found a group of people who can relate to what you're going through ❤ And you're so welcome, I find this forum is so full of lovely people who are ready to offer words of comfort when I've needed it, so I'm happy to be a able to do the same ❤

@mamam315 this is my second go around with HG and it is the worst. With DS, I was miserable but I was able to continue working up until 7 months. I only net 9lbs with him, but it was decently manageable. This time around, HG is kicking my ass. I've been in and out of the ER for uncontrolled nausea and vomiting, as well as vomiting blood. We don't have the option for home fluids, but I currently go into the hospital twice a week for 2L of IV fluids (1L lactated ringers and 1L banana bag). It doesn't stop the N/V completely, but not being dehydrated helps take the edge off. I'm also on zofran, phenergan, reglan, and unisom/b6 orally, and if I can't keep them down for a day or so, IV versions are added to my fluids appointment.

I have found that planning on doing one "productive" task a day keeps me from overdoing it. If I am having a good day, I may get more done, but on my bad days, I don't feel like I failed and got nothing done. And I have a list of "safe" foods that I can keep down easier, and that don't damage my esophagus on the way back up if I can't (mashed potatoes are big one for me). My doctors also want me to make sure that everything that I eat/drink has a caloric value, because I need every calorie that I can keep in my body and they don't want me to risk drinking plan water and it triggering me to throw up the food that I had managed to keep down.

Remember, be kind to yourself and give yourself the grace to do whatever you need to get through. Pregnancy is already be a hard event on the body, adding HG into the mix can be truly debilitating.
