Re: The Great Big Questions Thread - July

  • Hello Mommies ♥️!
I hope that you and yours are doing great!

I have a dull headache since yesterday. Could it be due to me not drinking coffee and reducing my caffeine intake?
Any other mommies going through this?

    Thank you in advance 🤗

  • @iscarelys I definitely get headaches when I cut out caffeine so it could be a side effect of that. But you could always call your doctor if it persists or gets worse, just to be safe.

  • Anyone else’s boobs not hurt when you sleep? When I wake up in the morning, my boobs are not as sensitive, and I panic…but then I sit up and move around and the tenderness is back.
  • Oh man I lived on Tylenol during first pregnancy and it’s looking to be a trend for me! And I’m still drinking my coffee while I can; I had such an aversion to it when pregnant the first time too so I’m enjoying it for the while!
  • The headaches lasted about a week and a half for me. I never get headaches typically. I think it was the caffeine withdrawals for sure. I upped my water intake big time and I think that helped too. Yep- Tylenol too.
  • Does anyone else have dry mouth like crazy? All I do is drink water all day but it never seems enough (easily 100 oz a day). I don’t remember this in my previous pregnancies.

I haven't experienced this except when I haven't drank enough...like when I was just queasy enough to not want to eat/drink.

  • I had hella vertigo during what would have been implantation. I've had vertigo in the past, rarely, and lasting only a few minutes. This lasted for several days. Anyone else? Or just a coincidence? I'm more curious, not looking for medical solutions.

@firecracker_mama with my second, I had a lot of intermittent vertigo/dizziness during my first trimester. It mostly went away after that! I get very low blood pressure during pregnancy (lowest was 90/60) so I don’t think that helps.
  • Anyone else feel like they're a furnace all the time? I'm only 4 weeks+3, but the last week or so, I've been waking up sweaty. I normally run pretty cool.

This is my first pregnancy. My sister, who's on baby #3 says is normal lol.

I've been freezing cold recently but towards the end of my pregnancy with DS, I was so hot all the time

  • @lilbunbun I've read that being warm is a common first trimester symptom. I personally always get really cold but that might be the anemia haha

  • Thank you @firecracker_mama and @mytrueloves ! 😊
  • @lilbunbun I'm an oven during pregnancy!

Anyone start vomiting yet? I called my OB and they suggested trying unisom+B6 first before they would prescribe me anything, but I'm not hopeful that it'll work.
  • @marebear15 I’ve been doing the unisom and B6 for awhile now and I feel like it does help!

I haven't! I was having a lot more food aversions by this time last pregnancy so I go down this rabbit hole and have to remind myself that a missed period, fatigue, and constipation are also pregnancy symptoms and puking isn't the only one that exists. 😵‍💫 Not me going crazy over here.

  • @marebear15 I have, way earlier than I usually do. I thought I had time to prepare

  • I never had headaches during my pregnancy with DD2, but I've been having them this pregnancy. Has anyone had success with natural remedies. I took Tylenol when it was really bad but I don't normally take it even when I'm not pregnant so I don't want to continue that.
  • @miss_lynn9 mint tea helps me with my headaches. In large amounts mint is not good for pregnancy though so I try to only do it when other things (caffeine, cold rag on the base of my neck, dark, cold room for a little) don't work.

  • I try a cold rag on my head/neck, dark room, scalp massage but if it gets too bad I take Tylenol.
  • I got a wicked headache the day of my BFP. I thought it was my period starting but nope, pregnant (was late). I second massage and dark room. Tylenol rarely works so I try to avoid taking it. Usually I don’t get headaches while pregnant so I hope this was a one off.
  • I had my first ocular migraine today. That was the strangest thing. My BP was fine. It went away then I got a headache.

  • Is anyone doing the NIPT?
  • @mamahosch I'm going to do it. I did it with my first and I'd like to know to expect anything. Our insurance covers 100% so there's not a worry about cost either.

  • @firecracker_mama our new insurance company pays 90% AFTER the deductible 🙄 so it sounds like we probably won’t be unless they deem it medically necessary at my appointment.
  • @mamahosch i actually forgot about the NIPT! We didn't do it with our first, but now that I'm considered ancient at 35, I may consider doing it this round given higher risks.
  • @mamahosch we're doing it again, we did it with DD too. I can't remember but I think we only paid like $50-100 for it if anything.
  • @mamahosch I didn’t do it before because I was younger and didn’t want to accidentally find out the sex but I think if insurance doesn’t cover the company charges a flat fee of I think $200 max.

I’m old now so I’ll be doing it this time.

We won't be doing the NIPT. Haven't done it with any of our others and won't do it this time. Our insurance doesn't cover it. I figure if anything is wrong the anatomy scan will most likely find it. Maybe things have changed through the years but I've seen so much added stress for others that have done it because of false positives that it's just not worth it for us.

  • @nopegoat I don't think we will either. I can only get it covered if the NT scan is off or if I have any other risk factors which I don't. Plus I don't want to have false worries or accidentally find out the sex!
  • @nopegoat I’m with you on your reasonings behind not doing it. My sister in law did it and was told her baby would have a couple of truly AWFUL conditions and then found out it definitely was a false positive. It ruined the rest of her pregnancy and she was just an absolute mess.
I think if I was over 35 I MIGHT have done it but I’m just 31 so I don’t feel like I need too. With doing IVF we know a lot about our embryo that was transferred and did genetic testing for both myself and our sperm donor.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida yes, exactly. There are very few, if any, medical tests that are a one-step process. There is a standard "screening" test that will be followed by the gold standard "confirmatory" or "diagnostic" test.

I think what it should boil down to is that if having the information that your child is high risk for a birth defect would help you plan for your and their future, then it is good to do the test. If you would rather not know and just take what comes as it comes, then you could skip the test.
  • Anyone here STM+ that had bad SPD/pelvic girdle pain? I hear it gets worse with every pregnancy and I swear I feel like my pelvis is already giving out on me. I actually had it worse the first time around I think partly due to doing yoga which I think made it worse.

Incidentally I felt this way when I had a Mirena in before. I must be super sensitive to hormones.

@mamahosch we won't be - I already have trouble sleeping through pregnancy, and am prone to anxiety. I don't need to make either of those problems worse!
  • @mamahosch DH and I discussed it and agreed to do it this time. We opted not to with our second, but I hadn't had trouble conceiving her and we knew her donor better than the donor we used for this baby. So we're getting it done this time just to be safe, even though we're fairly sure insurance won't cover it (it didn't last time).

  • @Wishilivedinflorida even if they thoroughly explained it was just a screening I don't think it would relieve the stress of many, myself included. Dr Google and waiting for more scans and testing would get the better of me quick.

  • I've had SPD and horrific sciatica with every one of my pregnancies. It's definitely gotten worse and started earlier with each pregnancy. Truthfully I don't think I fully recovered from my last pregnancy. 😅

  • @nopegoat Definitely agree it’s sometimes not worth the anxiety! And oh man, that’s rough. My best friend just had #4 and had to do PT basically the whole pregnancy. I think my ligaments just give up the second my body has a whiff of pregnancy 🙄
