Fetal Head Circumference Dropped Percentile

Hi all,

Looking to hear others who may have had or be having a similar experience.

At my 20 wk ultrasound baby's head circumference was measuring in the 80th percentile. I'm 29 weeks now and my midwife suggested an ultrasound because baby's heart rate went from 110 to 130 during my visit. Heart rate was fine at the second ultrasound but her head circumference was now in the 4th percentile.

I went to see a maternal fetal medicine doctor who assured me that "the baby is fine", but such a big drop in percentile has got me really worried.

I'm wondering if there is even a chance her head was just on the verge of a growth spurt and come my next ultrasound in 4 weeks things will seem back on track. No indicators for anything being wrong, all genetic testing was normal.

Freaking out a bit and again wondering if others have gone through something like this.

Trust your doctor that everything is fine. Ultrasounds in later pregnancy are more inaccurate.

My baby's head circumference was good at my anatomy scan, but all subsequent scans his head has measured pretty small. In fact at my 36 week scan it was only in the 2nd percentile. He's so far down into my pelvis that they can't get a good measurement at all. My OB has never been concerned as his overall percentile has been good.
