Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

TTC after loss

Hi all, I naturally miscarried 6/17 so if I count that day as the first day of my cycle, I’d be CD12. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, which my doctor said would suffice and I do not need hcg blood tests. I took an ovulation test and it’s incredibly dark (not quite darker than the control line, but really close!) is it possible I could ovulate in a few days or has anyone experienced getting a false positive ovulation test after a miscarriage, is that possible? (Also, yes, I asked my doc about this but I had to communicate through a nurse and didn’t get a straight answer.)

Re: TTC after loss

  • They usually tell you to wait until after your first AF following MC, for dating purposes.  A neg PG test will definitely help, but unless you are temping, it's going to be super hard to determine when/if you O this cycle.  The only normal after a MC is that there is no normal.  Cycles can take 6-12 months to regulate out to a new normal for you.  Sometimes you can have multiple surges that O tests can pick up, which can be very common post-MC when your cycles are wonky and haven't evened out yet.  They also can show up positive if there's any HCG left in your system.

October 2015 - 1st MC.  7-8 weeks along. Suspected molar PG, but luckily just a MMC.

    June 2016 - 2nd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

    September 2016 - 3rd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

RE 1: ALL the testing - 'unexplained'  "Yinz can do IVF or try on your own"

    Feb 2017 - 4th MC: 6 weeks

RE 2: More tests. Still 'unexplained.'  Called fat for an entire hour-long appointment, cried a lot

    Feb 2019 - 5th MC: 6-7 weeks

    IUD - March 2019-March 2023

RE 3:  Repeat all the tests. Hoping to try IVF.

  • Agree with PP. You'll only really know if it's a true positive if you're also temping and get a clear shift in temperature in a few days.

I had done an OPK sort of on a whim around my usual ovulation day post-MC just to see and it turned out to be positive and I had the temp shift a few days later to confirm ovulation so my cycle did pick back up as if my MC was like a regular period. But YMMV!
