@janinegb what's luminaries? I've never heard of that before
My mom always worked on Christmas Day, so instead of doing a traditional Christmas dinner, my family would drive around looking at Christmas lights and get 7-11 hotdogs when she got home. My siblings and I plan to keep up the tradition
My favorite tradition is my family's trip up 'Apple Hill' for Christmas trees. It's a mountainous region SW of Tahoe with a lot of apple orchards and Christmas tree farms. Been going every year (except 2020) since I was a kid. There's amazing apple cider, apple wine, apple donuts, and lots of little craft booths. We go to the tree farm highest up the mountain for the best chance at finding snow. If the farm doesn't have snow we drive higher up after getting our trees in search of snow. One year we went all the way up to Tahoe before we found any. The same Santa is always at the tree farm we go to and I love those annual photos with my kids.
Are these meant to be holiday traditions? Here's one of ours. Our mom was a cook growing up. She worked every holiday so we often celebrated late or on another day. Some years she was very tired and didn't want to cook a big meal at home so she would make Christmas tacos. It became our favorite holiday treat. They were soooo good. She added spices like cinnamon to make them more Christmas-y. I still make them either for Christmas Eve or the day after. So yummy.
We would always play board games Christmas night. I always loved it, just playing with my siblings and parents. I haven’t been able to keep up the tradition, kinda forgot about it till now tbh. My daughter goes to her dads Christmas da. But I think I’ll pick another day and start it again
