I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant with my second and I have only gained 4 pounds. My doctor hasn’t said anything but I saw on my notes from my first pregnancy at this point I had gained 10 pounds. So I’m just curious where everyone else is at?
I wouldn't worry too much as long as the baby is growing. I've gained 9 at 15 weeks. In my experience sometime after twenty is when I'll gain at least another 20 lbs.
I gained much more with my first, and this time I lost about 12lbs and am only just back up a couple lbs. I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow. My midwife said so long as baby is on track in there it's totally normal for weight shifts to differ from person to person, pregnancy to pregnancy
I’m 16 weeks and have gained about 7 lbs. Where you’re at sounds fine, it totally varies through pregnancy and especially at this point, since we’re freshly out of the first trimester with different degrees of nausea.
I’ve gained 14 pounds at 15 weeks 😳 and I’m honestly shocked about it. I was throwing up multiple times a day and wasn’t eating much during that time. But my body is weird, I can eat super clean (I’m already a vegan) and if I don’t work out, I’ll gain weight.
I had gained 12 lb at like 5 weeks and have been steady there since then. Well, last time I weighed myself I was down almost a pound. For as long as your kiddo is fine, you’re good.
@kat_vegan87 I retain water and that's the majority of my weight gain. I swear I'm buying one of those sweat suits post partum to workout in so I can just shed all the retained water if I don't get the sweats. 🤣
@krysnicole1022 I swear when my milk supply comes in I wake up in a pool of sweat every night. I figure that’s how I end up losing a ton of the pregnancy water weight!
@EmilyE13 I did not sweat after my second or third. Ever. I just kept getting bigger. It was so bad. After I stopped breastfeeding I started sweating again and it was a relief. I usually sweat a lot. Like a disgusting amount. I love it though. I'll take a lot of sweat over no sweat any day.
@EmilyE13 I keep forgetting to ask. I always have a list. They are checking my thyroid again. It's been enlarged for a decade and eventually it's going to be a real problem but it gets so sluggish during pregnancy that I assume it's contributing somehow. I just strap on sweat bands on my thighs during workouts. I do the arm ones sometimes. I still don't sweat much but it does a little something.
Question- did your doctors ask you your pre-pregnancy weight at your first appointment and use that as your starting weight? My doctor didn’t so I believe they’re just using my first weigh-in at my pregnancy confirmation appointment as my starting weight… but that’s totally cheating because that appointment was at 7+ weeks and going by that I’ve only gained 3lbs as of today at almost 16 weeks… but really I had already gained 7lbs by that first appointment, so im actually up 10lbs! I take adderall for adult adhd when I’m not pregnant so as soon as I discontinued it my appetite went nuts and I started eating everything!
@siouxieq87 they didn’t ask but my first appt I didn’t get weighed (I was a wreck with PGAL brain so they just focused on the ultrasound), and I saw that they just used my weight from early 2020 shortly after I had my second baby…and let’s just say that the pandemic was rough. So, it looks like I gained a ton between my 1st and 2nd appointment when I didn’t at all. Oh well.
@siouxieq87 we always ask our patients what their pre-pregnancy weight was when they come in to deliver rather than going with the office visit documentation.

I am seeing a lot of weight gain from 13 weeks to now 15 weeks, i have gained almost 9 lbs. This baby is making me crave sweets and carbs, with my daughter I wanted fruit and fish. I only gained 34 pounds with her but started 20 pounds heavier. I am hoping to stay in that 30 lbs range with this baby so I am starting to focus on being active and hopefully reeling in my diet to slow down the gain. I am sure a lot of the gain over the past two weeks has just been me enjoying eating without throwing up, lol!
@autumnlore ugh. You have HG? I'm sorry. That's so rough. Two of my close friends have had it with all their pregnancies and I have nothing but respect for women who have to deal with that.
I’m a couple pounds below my starting weight now at 16 weeks, which was a little unexpected. I definitely eat better when pregnant (and obviously don’t have the extra alcohol calories) and haven’t had a huge appetite, so I’m chalking it up to that. I had stubborn weight to lose before getting pregnant anyway, so I’m good with it given baby is growing fine.
I’m about 9lbs down from pre-pregnancy weight at 15 weeks. I was already in the “shouldn’t gain more than 20lbs” category, so my doctor isn’t concerned. I usually lose about 10ths in the first trimester from having less appetite, and changing my eating habits to be healthier. With my first, I only gained 17lbs. Definitely more than that with my younger two, which is why I’m at the weight I am now.
I’m at 16 weeks 5 days and I’ve only gained 3 pounds. I’d lost weight right before getting pregnant so I’m still 7 pounds down from my pre-pregnancy weight. My OB isn’t concerned.
I am 17 weeks today, so far I have lost 5 lbs by week 12 and I have not gained any since. I am considered overweight, I believe I saw recommended weight gain when overweight is 10-15 lbs, so hopefully it’s a good trajectory so far.
