Let 'er rip.
I've found there is an attitude (not here) that's like "all you really need for your baby are clothes, diapers, and somewhere for them to sleep" and claim that everything else is superfluous, and I don't like it. Yes, there is a huge baby industrial complex that it is easy to fall into, but there are also a lot of things out there that genuinely make parenting easier.
My sister was at a shower for first time parents over the weekend, and she chatted with a friend who is a parent of 2. The friend was snarking a little on the new parents about all the stuff on their registry, and how they don't need half of it. I feel like I used almost every baby gift I received, except for the one thing people swore up and down I would use all the time.
