@inthewoods23 with a 10 year old who has her first iphone and iPad, the only child proofing we find ourselves actually really needing is Internet child proofing! GIF is accurate!

Looking back, we did very minimal childproofing with DS 😂. We had no locks on cabinets, really no baby gates inside - we opted for 100% supervision until about 3yo haha. We did use light socket covers, grippy socks, and things like 'hey let's plug our phones in where he can't reach the cords' logic. This time around, I am nervous since there will be 2 at the same time and I'm not sure 100% supervision will be doable.

We'll get baby gates to keep them contained in a room I am thinking. And probably one for the stairs. Time will tell if we opt for the cabinet locks - it is so child-dependent IMO.

One thing I will advocate for is pet safety! We started the day DS came home from the hospital because our dog is an anxious, high-energy, rescue and we wanted everyone to be safe. We kept them separate for a long time and we actually leashed the dog when she interacted with him until about 3 months because she's so strong and just wanted to lick his face off. Once he was old enough to crawl, we started teaching him safe petting and gentleness with the dog. As he got older, we taught him how to approach a dog, where to pet them, not to run and antagonize. We also pounded into him that we never, ever pet a dog without asking first and to never approach a dog without a grown up around. He is so good about that when we are out! And he and our dog are best friends now!

@jellie603 pet/baby interaction is certainly important! My cat is not declawed and we're not that good about regularly trimming them so we'll have to make sure cat and baby aren't hurting each other.

I wish we could register for a baby gate for our stairs but that part of the house will be reno'ed later this year and since we're not sure what width we'll have to work with I can't look at them yet. Guess that'll just be a Christmas gift this year.


Do you guys think with handleless flat cabinets that a baby could easily get into them? That's what we're looking to use when we do our reno in the kitchen. I guess I'll just have to find out when the time comes haha
