Re: Flame Free Friday Confessional 4/8

  • Sips of beer here and there while the family is in town and almost made an appointment to get my hair colored which I know is somewhat taboo. Still unsure if Iโ€™ll actually get some highlights, Iโ€™m just craving a little lighter hair now that the weather is warming up.ย
  • Loading the player...
  • @lucyg00cy yes! I steal a sip of my husbandโ€™s drinks sometimes too. I especially miss the gin and tonics ๐Ÿ˜ข From what I recall chatting about colouring hair with my OB with my first son, she said doing something like balayage where youโ€™re not actually touching the scalp with any hair dye has pretty much no risk if you want to be on the safe side. She said the risk might be a bit higher if youโ€™re colouring all your roots to cover greys as an example. Though it really depends on the type of dye you use.ย
  • The hair dye risk is extremely overexaggerated.ย  I get my hair colored every 8 weeks or so.

  • @kboydbowman Iโ€™m wondering if thatโ€™s because hair dye has evolved so much over the years? Like yeah maybe 40 years ago it wouldโ€™ve been sketchy but now itโ€™s not as bad?ย
  • @newbabymama27 I asked my hairdresser about it once and that's exactly what she said lol

  • This makes me feel better, I get balayage anyway so I ignited just by I treat myself now! I got paranoid because of a few things Iโ€™ve heard abs my future in laws and their family kept making remarks about me needing to wait and itโ€™s like Iโ€™m sorry this isnโ€™t the 80s anymore- there had to be plenty of non-toxic options now. Iโ€™m sure the in-laws will make remarks about anything I do so Iโ€™ll need to get over that ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • @lucyg00cy ugh there will always be family members giving in their unsolicited advice and make unwarranted remarks ๐Ÿ™„ you should do whatever makes you feel good and beautiful about yourself!! Pregnancy and motherhood are not easy, you deserve a little something for yourself!ย
  • @lucyg00cy another thing to remember is all the women who work as stylists during pregnancy- exposed throughout the entire pregnancy- and have completely normal babies!ย
My stylist worked with hair dye throughout her pregnancies, had completely healthy babies, and her OB had no concerns. That was enough to make me feel comfortable enough to cover my grays as soon as I got out of the first trimester and every 8 weeks from here on out ๐Ÿ˜‚ย

@lucyg00cy I was getting scalp bleaches with 40vol (strongest you can get) every 4 weeks from conception until 36 weeks when I got a root stretch (brown die on scalp) when pregnant with my DD. All of the hair dressers I went to said it was totally fine.ย

I have been loving alcohol free versions of my favourite alcoholic drinks lately. Not sure about the US but in Aus there is a massive market for them and you can get so many varieties. I have a really nice wine, beer & mojito I buy. Might be something to look for if you want more than a sip ๐Ÿ˜

    ย
  • @wiseh oh we have some alcohol free stuff in Canada too! I really enjoy Heineken 0.0 and find it actually tastes like beer. The wines so far have been very mediocre and my husband has been on the hunt for an alcohol-free gin for me all over the city but itโ€™s sold out everywhere. His pregnant co-worker said itโ€™s really good but hard to find.ย

Thank you. I still get my hair touched up (naturally black) and I don't love the grays in me. So much of pregnancy is weighing out risk I'm finding - not necessary can you and can't have.ย
  • @ravenhairedgirl83 Have you made a post on the introductions thread yet?

  • @wiseh and @newbabymama27 My husband is sober, but likes the taste of beer, so we have nonalcoholic at our house all of the time:ย Heineken 0.0, Budweiser 0.0, Brooklyn Special Effects, and any nonalcoholic option from Athletic Brewing and Brew Dog. Might give some more options ๐Ÿ˜Š Also, what is the brand of the nonalcoholic gin? Gin and tonic is my go to drink, and Iโ€™d love to have an option poolside this summer!
  • See I completely don't understand the point of non alcoholic on alcoholic alcohol beverages. I drink because I like to get intoxicated. The taste of alcohol is disgusting. To me it makes as much sense as uncaffeinated coffee. Coffee is gross so why would you drink it if it didn't have caffeine?

@laj0217 oh nice!! Our liquor mart website is currently down so I canโ€™t look up the gin im talking about but Iโ€™ll let you know once itโ€™s back up ๐Ÿ˜Šย

@kboydbowman haha see I'm the opposite! I havenโ€™t gotten drunk for many years now and really donโ€™t enjoy being drunk. I also have to drink like a huge burly man to get drunk despite being fairly small. I love the taste of certain alcohols though so thatโ€™s what I miss.ย

hahahaha to be honest that's me too @kboydbowman. But when you can't drink and everybody around you is drinking, it feels more social to down a couple of bottles of alcohol free wine rather than a can of coke or something ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

@laj0217it's called "Naked Life" and they have G&T too. I'm not sure if you can buy it in the US but my friend is a non-alc spokesperson so I will ask her for some good options & let you know
  • @wiseh Iโ€™ll check it out for sure!

@kboydbowman I canโ€™t speak for anyone else, but my husband felt his alcohol usage was becoming more harmful to his day to day life, so stopped. But, heโ€™s a bartender and loves pretty much everything about it, including the taste and social aspects. Heโ€™s found the nonalcoholic beer letโ€™s him still sit at a bar with friends to drink without making it a thing and lets him keep the ritual of winding down by cooking dinner with a beverage. It lets him maintain his sober lifestyle without feeling like heโ€™s giving something up, so no arguments from me ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

@laj0217 found the name - the brand is Seedlip and they have a few โ€œginsโ€ though they canโ€™t call it gin because there is no juniper in them. Still sold out everywhere here, womp womp.ย
  • Seedlip is good! They sell three different types of "spirits" - Garden, Grove, and Spice. They have many cocktail recipes on their site so you can recreate your favorite drinks:ย https://www.seedlipdrinks.com/en-us/cocktails/

I've made a few of them to satisfy my cocktail cravings, and I like Athletic Brewing to satisfy my beer cravings. But I'm with @kboydbowman and @wiseh - I miss the buzz lol. This summer will be tough - nothing like spending a warm weekend afternoon at a beer garden with my husband, playing cornhole, and eating a food truck lunch. Craft beer is THE THING right now in New England. Alas - it's not forever!
  • @newbabymama27 I told my husband my bump group was getting me the name of a nonalcoholic gin, and he knew immediately what it was ๐Ÿ˜‚ thank you for the info though, because he was apparently never gonna tell me about it!
  • @laj0217 how rude! ๐Ÿ˜‚
