Measuring 6 weeks but should be 7 weeks?

Hey guys-
I had my first appointment today. I should be 7 weeks if you’re dating from my last period but it measured 5+5-6+1. There was a gestational and yolk sac but she said it was hard to tell with the way it was positioned. She scheduled me to come back for a second scan in two weeks. Has anyone else has this happen? Outcomes?

This happened to me, but the difference was from my confirmed ovulation date.  Keep in mind that your last period is not an accurate indicator of ovulation/conception since not everyone ovulates on day 14.   This could be why your dates are off.  As for me, I’m not sure why there’s a difference. It concerns me a bit actually, but so far I’m either 10 weeks or 9.5 week and I have a healthy baby so far!

  • Hey! Unless you’re tracking ovulation with BBT it’s almost impossible to know exact date of conception, LMP isn’t always accurate. It’s totally possible you ovulated a little off or implanted a little later. My cycles are long as wonky, if I based pregnancies on LPM alone they would appear two weeks behind.
    Good luck!
  • Yes, I went in last week and I should have been 8w2d but I measure 6w5days, so they changed my due date and I got back this Wednesday to check again. They didn’t seem concerned so just trying to go with that!
  • Totally normal! As others have said, LMP is just a rough estimate based off of the average cycle and ovulation dates. Everyone’s is different. I had my first scan on Monday (7w0d by LMP) and was measuring 6w2d. Just meant adjusting my due date slightly and possibly a few extra days of first trimester yucks.
  • Hi @babyfriend_ Welcome to our board!  We are glad you are here and it sounds like a lot of moms have some reassurance for you. On the bump month boards we try to stick to a format of posting so that it is easy to find information and build relationships.  It would be great if you could introduce yourself in our introductions thread and then read our board organization thread to get the lay of the land.

If you have a question we are trying to encourage all posters to either ask their question in their weekly due date check, the Great Big Question thread, or or weekly questions thread (starting soon😉).  If you have any questions about how all of this works you can dm me and I can answer. I was a newbie too at one point!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know how our board works.  We look forward to getting to know you!
