Re: Flame-free Friday Confessions 4.1

  • Well, it’s Saturday now, but I gotta say, I really dislike April Fools Day. It’s just so mean spirited. One of my friends posted something on social media the day before that was basic at like: “Please don’t post fake pregnancy announcements because it could really hurt someone who is struggling with infertility or loss”. Real pregnancy announcements used to trigger me so I definitely get that. I just can’t believe people would ever joke about pregnancy like that, it’s crazy!
  • Lol work was crazy last week right up until the end of the day yesterday so I didn’t have enough to confess lol. I was so exhausted, I went to bed at 9:30. Normally, I try to stay up a little later on weekends for me time and time with my husband, but last night I just couldn’t hang lol

  • @zinnia19 yes why would anybody find that funny?? I thankfully don't think I ever specifically saw that on my social media feeds. There was no shortage of joking about corona babies once we were all in lockdown 🙄. Not long ago one of my FB memories was the time I posted about how it's not cool to laugh about having a corona baby while myself and probably thousands of other couples had their IF tests and treatments come to a screeching halt since that was all deemed medically unnecessary. I was supposed to have a FET on 3/31 that year. It sucked but I actually ended up feeling super sick that day and probably would have had it cancelled anyway.

It's weird for me to say that covid and lockdown was actually a bit of a blessing. Taking a break was helpful. But it also set us up for a series of events that showed I can get pregnant naturally and here we are.

  • April Fools pregnancy announcements used to bother me, but after I had an ectopic last March it made it VERY real. Now I will go out of my way to comment when I see it and explain why it is not okay
  • Gonna get real for a second.

The older I get, the more I realize that my values, most especially with money, are radically different than my moms. I used to be really angry that she taught me nothing, but now I’m sort of glad she didn’t. I think she would have taught me things I ultimately don’t agree with, and it would have taken longer for me to get on the path I’m happy with.

That said it is so hard not to try and bring her to my way of thinking when she says she’s going to do things that make my heart stop. And very hard to just let her talk when she starts in on my choices as if I’m an idiot for what I’m choosing. I try to recognize that she just has different values and let it go but man. Sometimes it’s so frustrating.

@tuxielove93 I hear you. Building an respectful adult relationship with your parent can be incredibly difficult. I am struggling with my mom asking my opinion and then not hearing anything for months before the admits she did the exact opposite. I also am trying to learn to let it roll off my back.
    Our Journey:
    Me: 40
    TTC since 2017
    3/18-9/18- IUI's
    11/18- IVF #1
    1/19- IVF #2
8/19- DE Cycle #1- 5 PGS tested normal
    9/19- FET #1- SUCCESS! May 2020
    10/21- FET #2- SUCCESS! July 2022
  • @tuxielove93 I relate to this! Especially re: money. I grew up in a family that really didn't talk about money and I feel like I learned a lot of lessons way too late in life. I actually feel like I could have written your post myself, so you are definitely not alone in navigating through those differences.

100% easier to just let it go as you say, but way easier said than done for sure!
