Tropicana orange juice was my most recent discovery as tasting HEAVENLY this pregnancy. Maybe because of the high folic acid content? I got some to serve with our pancakes on Pancake Tuesday and it's now an official addition to the regular grocery list. It's been perfect first thing in the morning to curb my nausea while I figure out what I want for breakfast. Also, pancakes. So. Good. I use the Joy of Cooking recipe and they're so tasty.
The list of foods I cannot do is growing: chicken thighs, fish, broccoli, greens, eggs, dumplings, overly sweet things
So far my cravings have been pretty similar to my first pregnancy. I crave food from my childhood…hello nostalgia lol. Current favorites…cheese pizza lunchables and mac&cheese.
@Emily13 Woot! Also yes. I don’t think it’s good that I’ve initiated this relationship with thousand island. However, a slice of bread, a layer of thousand island, and a thick slice of havarti… also heaven. Maybe it’s a little better than mayo, at least? 😂
This pregnancy, so far I've had an adversion to meat and I'm eating all the veggies I can. Sucks bc I don't know many recipes and sometimes cooked veg is off-putting, so it definetely limits me.
So far I've been able to keep it pretty veggielicious, loving all the veggies and salads I can get my hands on, but I'm having a seriously hard time with meats 😣 The only way I seem to be able to eat meat right now is breaded chicken. Fish I'm surprisingly ok with. And I swear, fruit has never tasted so good before in my life 😂 My cravings have been aaaalll carbs though!! Trying to keep eating healthy while still indulging some cravings every two days or so. Anyone else having a hard time not living on pasta and bread? 😅
@bluebird1122 Yes, fruit is SO good now! And definitely loving carbs.
My work is near a big market so yesterday I woke up super early so I could get Montreal bagels and deli-style cream cheese. Best decision ever! I'd been starting to dread getting my oatmeal ready in the mornings, but this morning I hopped out if bed knowing that bagel was waiting for me. If you haven't had Montreal bagels before, they're subtly sweeter than regular bagels so the sweet savory combo with the cream cheese is SO GOOD.
@krthouse I’ve been craving bagels a lot lately too. They are the perfect thing when I’m feeling nauseous in the morning. Montreal bagels sound amazing. I just googled and it looks like a place on the other side of our city sells Montreal-style bagels. Going to have to make an excuse to get over there!
Similar here too! 10w today and not into meat at all especially red and no fish but fruits are DIVINE and carbs are the only thing that seem to give me energy to continue about my day. I want to live in the fruit section of my local store.
The most annoying thing has been how delicious a deli sandwich has smelled. Super unfair!
Sweet potatoes! We got a bag at Costco yesterday and I am elated. They taste so good. Of course, I had one with some thousand island dressing and sour cream, because that’s my jam.
All the plain carbs in the world - I'm celiac and have never had so many carbs in a day! lol I am also a vegetarian and usually live off of veggies, but I can only tolerate a small amount at a time.
@mcclanna Yes! OMG I've been craving a nice deli sandwich for weeks! So unfair! I saw a recipe for a chickpea "chicken" sandwich yesterday (no way my stomach could handle all that chicken right now) so I was thinking I'll give that a try, maybe it'll trick my brain into thinking I had a real sandwich 😆 Or I was thinking of going to Jimmy John's and just asking them to give me the meats on the side, then going home to zap the cooties off of it before assembling it myself? 🤷♀️ Is that too weird 😅 They might go for it 🤣
@mclanna@bluebird1122 FWIW, my doctor’s office says the occasional deli sandwich is fine. I still only had 1 turkey sandwich my entire pregnancy last time but I’ve already had a couple this time because it’s what sounded good.
I woke up with a strong craving for white rice with kung pao sauce- it was delicious! I also really want liverwurst and pretzels but somehow my grocery store is sold out of liverwurrst- like, how?

Oh, and I'm still on the midday pickle routine
Fellow celiac here (since birth). What are your favorite carbs?
Mac n cheese, rice and corn pasta, sweet potatoes, potatoes, any Canyon Bakehouse bread.
@pangolindrome i'm usually not a huge pasta person and more of a rice person, but give me ALL the pasta. Also all of the breakfast carbs - pancakes, waffles, toast, muffins...
I do love mac and cheese too, I haven't gotten the craving too hard. but I'm sure I'll get there lol
Yasso mint chocolate chip bars. They taste good and fresh and give me quite a bit of protein too. I reward myself with one for staying at work all day.
My appetite definitely comes and goes. I don't really have a craving for meat.. I've been eating toast and cereal.. mashed potatoes... very boring stuff haha I hope it changes!!! I've been really craving an Italian sub though ugh
So I typically avoid ALL spicy foods, not my thing. A lil hint of heat I can manage but overall not into it. However. For some reason, I devoured hot wings the other day?? So strange, but I'm thrilled to have opened up a whole new world of food now.
I was craving Jersey Mike's for a full 2 weeks, at my first OB appointment I asked the doctor if it was really a bad idea and she said the concern for listeria in lunch meat was way back in the 90s and you can get listeria from pretty much anything. She said not eating Jersey Mike's would make you 100% safe from that one risk factor, eating it would be 99.9% safe so I took my 0.1% chance and got Jersey Mike's after the appointment. It was amazing. Especially since my food aversions were pretty severe so that was the only thing I wanted to eat
Comfort food craving was in overdrive last evening, and I indulged in brisket mac & cheese. It was sooo good but was nauseated the rest of the night. Did a unisom+B6 so I could try to get some relief (and sleep).
@stephers_ My bub seems to like spicy too! We made Buffalo cauliflower the other night and it was SO GOOD. I normally like spicy foods but was not at all into them in my first pregnancy so I was surprised by how I couldn't get enough of that Frank's Red Hot

Aw man I gotta get me some Jersey Mike’s… although I only get their philly cheesesteak because the one time I had a cold sub there, I got food poisoning
Did not want meat full stop today, but I did chow down on some tamari almonds and discovered I love hot lips and dino sours candies. Pickles, oranges, but a big no to almost everything else. This baby is a weirdo.
Meat and fish aversion here too. Talked to my doc and he said carbs are totally fine in the first trimester (basically all I eat along with fruit) and that I’ll come around to my regular eating habits in time. I’m also semi lactose intolerant so I eat cereal with oat milk and doc said to chew on 4 tums per day to get my calcium intake. Carbs all the way!
@sandy5693, @pangolindrome Celiac here also, and also craving all the carbs. I think I am turning into a baby myself in my food tastes. Typically I cook a lot and we eat a good variety of foods and try to go heavier on veg/protein vs carbs. Particularly on weekends I enjoy a good cooking challenge. But rn I have absolutely no energy for cooking and all I want to eat is boxed Mac and cheese, pizza, chicken sandwich, etc. I tried to at least buy Banza Mac and throw in some broccoli to make it a bit nutritious?
@magic_lentil I can’t stand banza. The flavor and texture is not for me which is SO SAD because of the vegetarian protein load. I got the Barilla red lentil pasta at Costco when they had it and really liked that, but garbanzo beans and I are lifelong foes.
@pangolindrome Banza is my least favorite as well but since it was the third mac&cheese meal in like a week and a half I felt like I had to go healthier if I’m going to eat it that often. It was actually a lot better than I remembered with all the broccoli in there to distract from the “bean” texture/flavor of the noodles. I saw that Annie’s has a mac&cheese with red lentil fusilli now but I haven’t tried it. I’ve always preferred quinoa/corn based gf for pasta for flavor/texture if we aren’t thinking about nutrition. Have you tried Banza’s frozen pizza? It’s actually pretty good, no detectable bean flavor to me.
Y'all, I am SO confused by this baby's ever-changing aversions and tastes. Tonight I knew as soon as DH started cooking I could not have the chicken fried rice he was making and even had to crack a window for air. What did baby want instead? You would think something basic like pasta or potatoes. Nope. Tempura shrimp and veggies, miso soup, plain rice and agedashi tofu.
Also, I have to share this because it made me cackle. My phone keeps trying to autocorrect that to 'misogynistic soup' 😂😂😂 Fortunately my soup was very respectful.
I’m eating all the things! Pizza has been a big one recently. Having it again tonight. I just got some green grapes at the store and I’m praying that they are the perfect ripeness of sweet and tart. Also picked up some bagels and honey/pecan cream cheese. And we’re not gonna mention the giant piece of grocery store birthday cake I demolished the other day. Someone please stop me.
@reirei09 I also just came here to say that I’m eating everything in sight. I also picked up that honey pecan cream cheese on Sunday and it’s amazing! Working from home (which I only do 1-2 days a week) is especially bad because I have full access to everything and it’s all I can think about
Last night I was eating tortilla chips with a squirt of Easy Cheese and a dash of hot sauce. Thank god for prenatal vitamins. Also I’m a pescatarian but have been craving red meat badly during this pregnancy! I can create a pretty damn believable “burger” that satisfies the craving but so far can’t find anything to curb by urge for a juicy steak:(
