Dizziness/vertigo symptoms ?

I am 15 weeks pregnant now. The first trimester was great, I had no morning sickness and no nausea at all. The past few days I’ve been experiences pretty severe dizziness and vomiting when I get up to move around. It feels like I’ve been on a boat for a month and I just touched land for the first time - I’m a like wobbly bobble head! I went to my doctor and she says I’m having some kind of pregnancy related vertigo and gave me some exercises to do.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

side note: baby is doing just fine!

Re: Dizziness/vertigo symptoms ?

  • I definitely had some lightheadedness when I would get up too fast. You’ve got a lot of blood in your body and you’re working extra hard to get it going the right places already. Take it easy and move slowly when necessary.

  • Also make sure you're hydrated. I get lightheaded if I don't get my 80+ oz in. You'll probably figure out what fluid amount works best for you, everyone is different.

You don't happen to have TMJ/TMD issues, do you? I had pretty bad vertigo/dizziness in college before I realized my jaw clenching overnight was so severe it was causing issues with my inner ear. My TMJ issues are definitely worse in pregnancy because I get stressed and clench even more.

  • No previous issues with TMJ, but have did hear some inner ear issues could be related! And I’ve been trying to stay as hydrated and relaxed as possible! I’m usually getting in 66oz a day now, but it may be time to bump that up a bit! :)
  • I was told to drink half my body weight in oz of water.

  • I that’s interesting! And I’m only 108lbs so I guess I’m on track for that! Just gotta keep it up! :)
  • You said on the other post you also just had Covid? Maybe it’s related to that
  • Girlll i almost fainted today 😐….My OBGYN said it was normal- stay hydrated and to eat well. Isnt this fun! Lol 😜
  • I did, but that was 4 maybe 5 weeks ago already

Thanks! :) HA and I’m actually feeling much better now too!! I guess I just needed some extra rest and extra hydration!
  • I feel like it’s could have written this post! The EXACT same thing happened to me at 15 weeks on the dot. Had a super easy first trimester and as soon as 15 weeks hit I was so dizzy it felt like I had just gotten off a tilt a whirl. My doctor said the same thing- vertigo likely caused by shifting fluids in my ear. So strange! It lasted for 2 weeks, for the majority of that I didn’t leave bed and had to have my husband help me get to and from different rooms in our house. Sorry you had to deal with that! Did hydration end up helping you?
  • I had vertigo in my first pregnancy and it was definitely related to an inner ear problem. I had an easy first trimester and then vertigo hit right around the same time, 14/15 weeks. I had it about 3 times over the pregnancy, about 1 week each time, and did the exercises they recommended to shift the crystals in my ear. I know how absolutely horrible it is and that it can be frustrating because it is different from being lightheaded and severely limits movement!  I live in Switzerland and no one seemed to know that this was a pregnancy related thing - so it took ages to get answers. BUT: after my first pregnancy I didn’t have it at all (for the past two years) and I’m 20 weeks pregnant with my second and so far 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻I haven’t had it again. So my message is: you aren’t alone in this, it does happen, the exercises do help (slowly), and it’s not a given that this is something that will extend beyond your pregnancy (I was so fearful of that). Hope it passes soon!
  • Also… apparently (just learned this) a Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to this. So consider getting your levels checked?
