I had it done with my first one, during the sweeping it was very painful but the procedure is so short that I would do it again, the pain I felt was only while it was happening. It did speed the process up but I also has to do a lot of walking after. I got it done around 5 pm (I was already having contractions but I was not feeling them, my SIL who is an OB could see me belly tighten from across the room earlier that afternoon, so that is how I now I was having contractions already) after the sweep started feeling them but they were mild, went to the hospital next day and I was dilated 4 cm, so they sent me back. I spent the entire morning & afternoon walking to induce labor. I was finally admitted at 6:00 pm next day after the sweeping.
If I remember correctly one of the risks is that they could break your water but I remember that membrane was so slippery and I could feel it, the doctor told me even if she wanted to break it she could not do it.
