Re: February- What my Pregnant Self is Eating

  • Selfishly updated this thread to mention my strange desire (I wouldn’t say craving because I wouldn’t buy them if they weren’t already in my house) for peanuts! 🥜 When I was pregnant with ds1, I bought peanuts for a snack for work but was so disgusted by them that I never ate them. I literally haven’t eaten peanuts since and wasn’t even a fan of peanut butter or things with pb in it (like Reese’s!). So strange!! Maybe I need protein?

  • We both have peanuts on the brain today. I can’t get enough of these: https://www.amazon.com/LITTLE-SECRETS-Peanut-Butter-Chocolate/dp/B07DQ5BBR1/ref=mp_s_a_1_30_0o_wf?crid=3UQEQCB4ZZ377&keywords=little+secrets+candy&pscroll=1&qid=1643749873&sprefix=little+secr%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-30&wIndexMainSlot=65

I also finished my leftover Indian for lunch today and am legit so sad it’s all gone. May have to order more later this week.
  • @wisewitch222 I was actually wondering if you had ever gotten your toaster strudel. I'm happy you did. @itsme215 I haven't had Indian food in so long. I love me some samosas. Mmmmmm
  • @bridgiebee82 just today, and I just had one for after school snack, and it was glorious.
  • @wisewitch222 Toaster strudels?! What in the world is even going on with the supply chain. Meanwhile, also cat food is mysteriously hard to find… and my favorite breakfast meat has been missing for 6 weeks. My sister is driving to see me and was supposed to bring me more since they only sell it in like 3 states and they were out! For six.entire.weeks.

I had a bagel sandwich for lunch and it was very good but I am currently in, I want something to eat but don’t know what limbo.
  • @mdfarmchick I need to know. What is your favorite breakfast meat? If you say "scrapple," You're automatically my new favorite person.
  • My husband just brought me home some cinnamon roll toaster strudels! I hadn’t even mentioned them! I’ve never had that kind, I’m usually a strict strawberry only kind of girl.
  • Scrapple Shortage, oh no!!!
  • @bridgiebee82 Hiiii Bestie!! How do you and @wisewitch222 know?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 My heart is happy! The craving is real.
  • @mdfarmchick I'm so sorry that you have a Scrapple shortage. I just watched Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, and they were making scrapple. Now I want to go to a diner and have breakfast. It may happen!

I'm from the Philly area, and I went to college in North Jersey. I was dumbfounded that people didn't know what it was. I made it for my friends and some loved it, some were horrified at the thought of it. Lol to each their own. I'm off to the diner! @wisewitch222 🥰 Scrapple for life!!
  • BRB Googling scrapple…. 👀
  • @itsme215 wish I never did 😅
  • @bridgiebee82 I’ve heard of it but never had it.  Is it kind of like liverwurst or spam or corned beef hash?
  • Someone mentioned hamburger helper here somewhere, and then I had to make it.  I did it with impossible meat and chickpea pasta.  Never tried impossible meat before, but it was good.  My husband tasted it blind and didn’t notice a difference… although it being buried in cheese probably helped.

    Recent cravings:
    cold baked sweet potatoes
    strawberries
    twizzler pull n’ peels
    deviled eggs
    Spindrift pink lemonade
    Kiwi
    green olives
    fish sticks with Mayo
  • @lmaplejc ummm it's literally the scraps of pork they can't use for other things. Liver, back fat, and other parts, as well as corn meal and flour. All boiled down and mixed together. Sounds disgusting, but when you slice it and fry it up, it's delicious! Don't Google it. You'll wish you hadn't. Lol
  • @lmaplejc None of those things. It tastes like the mushy interiors of sausage. When you slice it thin and fry it so it gets crispy on both sides (similar to cooking tofu) it's delicious.

@paytonpedro Did you at least get to keep your snacks? MH got to keep the scrapple after bonding with the TSA guy over how great it is.
  • @wisewitch222 haha yes we did! Glad your husband got to keep his food too! We had a friend fly home from Disney with bbq leftovers before lol. He made it through security with them and had them in his freezer for 4 months after 🤣🤣
  • @paytonpedro I’m in good company!

@bridgiebee82 @wisewitch222 I’ll definitely try it if I find it in the wild.  I love blood sausage, chicken liver, and haggis so I’m not scared.  I’m sure I’ll like it.
  • @lmaplejc love love love blood sausage! ❤
@buffythevampireslayer I tried an adventureful cookie the other day. I wasn't impressed. It was too hard to bite into. I shouldn't have to work for my cookies!
  • @wisewitch222 omg your husband is the real MVP. I never even risk TSA stopping me for trying to fly with it in my carry on. 🤣 I have literally driven it or had my sister drive it cross country since Covid has changed flying so much for us. But she couldn’t bring it this time because my mom can’t find any. 😒

@lmaplejc I would say it is closest to haggis but that isn’t quite right. My favorite way to eat haggis was “haggis nachos” in Scotland. 😁

@starkette yeah my sister is having the same problem. Her cat is a particular eater too. It’s so crazy.

@bridgiebee82 small world. We have family in Parkesburg and would go visit every summer. Now I try to take the boys up to Lancaster for a weekend every time we get to be home visiting with my family. One of the moms in DS2’s BMB lives near Lancaster so we get all our boys together for ice cream at Lapp’s.
  • My life is basically one big food aversion right now. Yesterday I went out to get some lunch... I drove around for about 1.5 and just picked up two different juices on the side of the road. Nothing feels appetizing.
  • @hola_knotties I definitely went through that. I hope it changes soon for you!!

I totally just made loaded potatoes (baked, but I cut them in half before baking them) and they were delicious. I added cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots as a side so I don’t feel like a crap mom. A vegetarian (minus the bacon on the potatoes) dinner is ok every once in a while… right??
  • Today I put a beef roast in the slow cooker, afraid that the smell would bother me, but it actually smelled good. We ate that with potatoes and will turn the leftover meat into Beef Stroganoff tomorrow or Friday. I’m realizing that there aren’t a lot of smells bothering me that didn’t already bother pre pregnancy. The difference is the smells that I already couldn’t stand made me need to throw up after getting pregnant.🥲

Food sounds almost a normal amount of appealing now. Like I could go out and eat and not stress about it not being enjoyable. It would still be a bit questionable if it weren’t for Zofran, but my stomach now almost always feels better when I eat. Even on Zofran that hasn’t always been the case. Sometimes it has felt really acidic or overall bad. The idea of going out for Valentines Day is actually exciting!

I’m tummy usually does not feel good after having anything with sugar in it. Is it just me? It’s probably for the best and I haven’t had the sugar cravings like I did before pregnancy, so I guess I’ll just be a little healthier.🤣
  • My Walmart delivery is supposed to be here in the next hour and I am planning on fast marinating some salmon and throwing together broccoli and rice with it. Those pork chops sound yummy too.
  • I’m making ravioli soup. Well, somewhat assisting my husband while he makes it because I got so out of breath and lightheaded just browning the Italian sausage.

I think we’re doing pork chops tomorrow though!
  • @mdfarmchick yum!! I’ve been wanting all the broccoli but my belly doesn’t like it.

@itsme215 yum!! I would be interested in the recipe for that!! Ugh I’ve been getting lightheaded too. It makes making dinner difficult sometimes for sure!

I only did 1 cup of cream instead of 2, I think 2 would be way too much.
and only slightly over 1 pound of sausage and it seems like plenty of meat.
  • @itsme215 thank you! And thanks for the tips!! I usually loosely follow recipes, unless it’s something I’ve never made or not something within my realm of comfort lol. So I definitely appreciate the tips!
  • Definitely more of a rule breaker/recipe maker as well! It’s how you discover more things and what goes well together for sure!😋
  • General Tso’s chicken and lo mein. It was amazing and also I now feel fat. Lol.
