𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: February 23rd for all the fun blood tests (my doctor said she was gone skipping them at the first appointment last week)

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Horribly nauseated, exhausted, and cranky because I'm not getting enough sleep. I really need to start a stool softener to help with this nausea a bit.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My husband is amazing and is a godsend to me every single day. That's all I've been thinking about recently.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Anyone else not really bloated? I was with my last pregnancy, but this one, not so much.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵? I love a good thriller, but every so often I want something light, like Sophie Kinsella. For movies, I honestly enjoy most things! I used to really love horror, but that's one I can't do much of anymore.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: tried to schedule my first appointment, they said they would call back in 24 hours, it's been a week, so I'll call again tomorrow and hopefully get something nailed down. 

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: still pretty good. I keep waiting for the nausea to come, but nothing yet. Lots of insomnia and a bit of constipation though. Boobs are still pretty sensitive too. 

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: A little frustrated with my insurance. We have Kaiser and there are lots and lots of things I love about it, but scheduling appointments is not one of them. You talk to the appointment line which is just a generic person who doesn't understand everything you're asking. And so often when they say they'll leave a note and have someone get back to you, no one ever does. Once you get past the appointment line and have a direct line to your doctor, it's better but still. Also Kaiser only does midwives unless you're high risk.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵? I love YA and fantasy. Currently on book 7 of 8 of the Throne of Glass series and loving it! For movies, I like either drama or action, depending on my mood.

@Amphibious22 I have Kaiser too, but where I am, there are no midwives. Ob is your only choice.  I would kill to have a mid wife option!

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: My first OB appt. and ultrasound are this Friday!!! Finally!!! I’ll be 8+2. I’m so sorry for those who have to wait longer. You can get a great picture and lots of reassurance around 8 weeks in my limited experience. And. Wow. I’m also extremely nervous. I just want to see that there really is a baby with a good heart beat in there. My brain is going in all kinds of directions with lots of bad things that could be happening. But I feel optimistic overall. I just need to see. This is my way of processing. 

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Nervous. Physically okay which just adds to the nervousness. At the same time, I do have pregnancy symptoms and no real reason to worry. I’m exhausted, shaky, and have achy lower belly feelings and sore boobs. But, nothing like last pregnancy. 

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Friends with kids: Seriously only 2 of my very close friends, who both have 3 year olds, know. Both are already trying to give me things. I’m so pumped about not spending as much on stuff and saving for a postpartum doula or maybe even a nanny for the first year. We’re not sure yet. We bought a lot of stuff the first time. I gave it all away! 

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Is anyone else not feeling eager to share the news? I’m eager to deal with logistical things (like talking to the preschool director about getting a spot in the infant program, and talking to my boss about how I won’t be there for the big event we are planning Sept 9-12!) but I’m not very excited about telling our families. My husband is. We did it via text then call right after the ultrasound appointment last time and I know that’s what he’s thinking we’ll do. I don’t know why I’m dragging my feet it’s not nervousness about the pregnancy- I have no reason to be nervous if everything is okay this Friday. It’s more that I just don’t want to answer questions about what we are going to do. I know the questions are coming. Anyone else?

@magnolia209 I get not wanting to be bombarded by all the questions and just wanting to keep it to yourselves. I'm thankful we don't say anything until 12 weeks so I still have some time.

@kboydbowman is it bad that I honestly don't know the difference? We didn't have Kaiser for my last pregnancy so I had an OB. When they told me it's only midwives, I was like sounds good?

@magnolia209 Our last pregnancy announcement was in April 2019, before covid. I'm not feeling the announcement over phone this time. It's like, ugh, what if I forget to tell someone? We don't do a social media announcement, so I'm counting on word of mouth to get us covered. 🤷‍♀️

@Amphibious22 midwives are awesome!  They view pregnancy as a natural process, whereas OBs tend to see it as a medical thing. Statistically, you're much less likely to end up with interventions you don't want with a midwife than with an OB.

@jhysmath I just know what my mom is going to ask. And my Grandma helps pay for my son’s preschool. I don’t want her to feel pressured to help with childcare for #2. I’ll tell her that. These are her 1st (and 2nd) great grandkids. 1st and 2nd grandkids for my mom. They have so many ideas and suggestions! They’ll be so happy. I do welcome their help. But, there will also be lots of suggestions.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Pretty good! Not nauseous at all (knock on wood) but definitely more sluggish than usual and my boobs are starting to hurt. I also can’t stop eating! So hungry all the time 

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant - So many family members are asking about baby names already and it’s driving me nuts. If I mention any that I like to them they tell me why they hate it and then I feel like it can’t be on my list anymore. So I’m going to try to keep it to myself but I’m surprised people don’t realize how annoying that is! I would never tell someone I hate a name that they are considering.

@knottie74db7e4415122790 Oh, yeah, don’t tell family or friends your potential names! No one will say anything once you announce your decision. When my son was born, my mom was in the birthing room with us. That’s when we told her! We won’t announce the name until after the baby is born! A fun way to get friends and family input is to play a game at your baby shower where they try to guess the name. You still don’t tell them after that. But it was really fun. 

And, for work. Congrats on the new job! But that’s a tough spot. Do you know what kind of maternity leave they offer? Will your job be held for you? I had a long term temp start as the assistant to my boss and then tell me she was 16 weeks pregnant. I was 8 months pregnant. I knew my boss was really stressed about a few upcoming things. I encouraged the temp to just wait about 2 weeks. I knew my boss would be less stressed and handle it better. It all worked out. She’s still in that role almost 4 years later! If you feel comfortable with your boss, you want to tell them soon. But if you are not comfortable with your boss, you should probably talk with HR first. It all depends on where you work, what you do, and what feels right. 

I’m planning to tell my boss pretty soon, if we get good news at my ultrasound this week. But we’re very close, I trust her, and I need to tell her some logistical things since we have a huge event right when I’m due!

@knottie74db7e4415122790 I found out very quickly noticing from cousins that my family is awful about the same thing. No name is good, and I wasn't dealing with that. I told my husband we announce the name when the baby is here, because you can't say terrible things to my face while you're holding my new baby. My cousin who had a baby shortly after me and was much younger, gave family names and they all said no. She then decided she really liked a name that rhymed with my daughters name and they told her she couldn't do that. She asked me and I said do it just to piss them off. And that is her baby she can name her baby whatever she wants, I have no say in that. Our daughters are the best of friends and having rhyming names is so cute.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I feel fine. This pregnancy is so much different than my last. I haven't had much nausea at all. Last pregnancy, I was prescribed diclegis because I was so sick. Just some bloating at night and some shortness of breath occasionally.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My only rant is my MIL already said we need to find someone to come to the house and keep the baby rather than sending it to daycare. Now, I know that sounds pushy, but she only says this because our family is very tight-knit and basically all keep each other kids, so none of the grandchildren have never been in daycare. She currently keeps my 4 year old until she starts school in August, but she's getting too old to keep a baby-baby. It's really not that big of a deal, and my husband is very good at standing up to them...it just annoyed me in the moment.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Tired and unmotivated. My nausea isn't as bad so I've been able to eat a little bit better over the last few days which has been nice. 

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: I've been waking up to pee at like 4am every morning and have been unable to fall back asleep. This was sort of a problem before becoming pregnant, but it is so much worse now. And my son has actually been sleeping in a little bit more than usual so it is really making me mad that I'm not getting more sleep, too. Blah. 

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Does anyone have a favorite prenatal vitamin? The ones I'm taking are like 3 giant horsepills that taste like rodent bedding and I haven't been able to take the full doses without gagging. I'd love a reputable brand that is easy to swallow and the less pills per dose, the better.

Try to test drive a few strollers at stores that have them out (it sounds like Nordstrom does, and a lot of BuybuyBaby stores do as well). Ask your friends with kids what they liked and didn't like about features, and consider a convertible one if you are pretty confident you'll be trying for another kid in the next year or two.

You don't need the most expensive of either car seat or stroller (all car seats pass the same test for safety). That said, I wouldn't recommend the cheapest you can find only because they aren't the most comfortable for the majority of kiddos. We personally use a Chicco KeyFit30 and love it. You can check out sites like www.lucieslist.com for really in-depth and well written reviews.

We'll have threads coming up in the next couple months where we discuss things like this, but feel free to keep researching and asking questions before then!

@mk2022x I knew what brand I wanted because I liked the latch system it had when I was working as a nanny and could put seats between vehicles with ease. My sister at the time had one that was not easy and dumb 21 year old me, definitely drove on the highway with my niece in a carseat that was not secured, I didn't realize until I went to undo what I thought was right, and before I did the carseat popped right out. Once I knew the brand I wanted I went to baby's rus and there happened to be a carseat stroller on sale so I bought it. We've used it for both of my kids and will use it again for the third. I will say I think I've lost the newborn inset for it and I'm bummed about that.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: So nauseous.  I had no nausea when I was pregnant with me son and I feel like I’m getting it doubly worse this time to make up for it.  My husband actually had to take our son to his speech therapy last Friday because I could barely stand I felt so bad.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: I wish I didn’t have to wait to 8 weeks for my first appointment.  I understand that’s pretty standard but it’s such an excruciating wait to find out if everything is ok.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Any tips for dealing with horrendous nausea?

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵? I love fantasy and sci-fi stuff, although lately I’ve been mostly drawn to reading romance.

@beccaneu I haven't had any nausea yet with this pregnancy, but I had it so bad with my son. What helped me was always nibbling to make sure my stomach wasn't empty. Foods that helped were saltines, fruit popsicles, grapes, and ginger snaps. I did end up getting prescribed diclegis at my 8 week appointment which really helped too. I hope you get some relief soon!

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Phone appointment on February 14th. They will go over any bloodwork I need to get done, meds I can and cannot take, etc. All of the normal first time appointment stuff.

𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁/𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲/𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸/𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: 100% finding out! As long as me and the baby are healthy I don’t care about gender.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: 2/7- first look ultrasound and then hopefully two weeks later we will do genetic testing.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I feel good overall, started cramping this week which I hope is normal. Some nervousness...hoping it’s just 1 baby and not twins since daycare is already expensive for 1! Also obviously hoping the little thing is all good.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Really wishing I already had an ultrasound, the cramping right now is only on one side of my lower abdomen which is making me worry’s little bit. Cannot wait to see the little babe and hear the heartbeat for the first time! Otherwise loving getting mentally prepared to be a mom, I can’t wait to decorate a nursery and tell our families. 

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: is anyone else experiencing pain while having sex now? I’m definitely not feeling good in general when we do it so I just don’t want to do it at all anymore🙈 not to mention I feel like my BF stinks (he is very clean and I’m sure he doesn’t actually stink) my sense of smell is just so strong I’m like please go shower again before you come near me a and for the love of god no more kisses after you drink coffee 😂

@scimomma I’ve been taking a CVS prenatal vitamin with DHA (comparable to nature’s made). It’s just 1 pill everyday which is nice and so far I have not had it make me feel sick at all. Sometimes the best options aren’t anything fancy!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: a little relieved today after my appointment. It was really nice to hear and see the heartbeat. I was also really lucky to be able to have my husband there and (not intentionally) have my son there too. Overall still exhausted. I’m getting up in the middle of the night to pee and then struggling to go back to sleep. 

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: still loving eggs 😂 and also on a mu shu pork kick. 🤷🏻‍♀️

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: The nausea just started and I’m feeling pretty crappy, but my least favorite symptom is vivid dreams. Almost every night I have terrible, vivid dreams. I don’t feel like they were this big of a problem with my DD.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: The nausea makes me feel like a bad mom to my toddler. Rave: the weather is going to be gorgeous this week, so DD and I will hit up SeaWorld one afternoon.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵? I love reading thrillers, classics, and anything on Oprah’s Book Club. I love most genres of movies, but horror is a hard pass for me. I also am very hit or miss with Sci-Fi.
