How are you feeling?: On the upswing, though definitely still fatigued and still have a bit of a sour stomach, and occasional nausea. I’m also getting both excited and nervous about getting the results of my cfDNA this week.
Team: finding out (eventually, at the anatomy scan)
Upcoming Appointments: February 1 for first tri screen/NT ultrasound and doctor visit
How are you feeling?: meh. Technically I'm feeling better, and I feel a little better each week, but I'm not 100% and now I'm just getting mad and tired of not feeling my best
Rants/Raves: We get a new stove tomorrow! I promise that's exciting
Questions: none
GTKY- What is your favorite food? cheese. Full stop.
EDD / Weeks + Days: August 10-11 weeks 5 days with baby no. 3
Baby is the size of a(n): macaron! I just got some yesterday!!
Team: finding out. Waiting on sneak peak results
Upcoming Appointments: Feb 4 for ultrasound and blood work
How are you feeling?: Ok. I've been constipated which is fun. I'm less nauseous and taking zofran very minimally at this point. Having more and more energy
Rants/Raves: attempting potty training my 3yo the next few days.
Baby is the size of a(n): lime (supposedly, but some of our limes are gigantic so I’m picturing it more like a key lime)
I’ve nicknamed the baby “Limeade” for the week but now I want to go to Sonic.
Team: Green
Upcoming Appointments: 1/31 (MFM) & 2/4 (OB)
How are you feeling?: pretty good, still having trouble sleeping some nights (ie last night), headaches have been a little better. Pretty nervous for my NT scan and NIPT next week.
Rants/Raves:
Questions: any magical cures for chapped lips? I’ve tried a few things and mine are still so dry and cracked.
GTKY- What is your favorite food? A lot of things. Sushi, pizza, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter, tacos, cheese, red curry, beef bulgogi, cake….
How are you feeling?: I don’t want to jinx it but better! The past 2-3 weeks have been the hardest so just having any amount of energy and being hungry are huge positives!
Rants/Raves: mh went back to work today and my ds1 is back at school- after us all being home together for 2 weeks! Ds2 is upstairs napping and I’m finally ALONE!!! I cleaned up a bunch this morning so I could just lay on the couch and relax by MYSELF! It. Is. Glorious.
Questions: anyone plan on doing a boutique us gender scan? If so at what week?
GTKY- What is your favorite food? I consider myself a foodie… I love pizza, pho, steamed dumplings, rubens, just about everything right now! Lol
Upcoming Appointments: Bloodwork tomorrow (1/25) and OB appt 2/2
How are you feeling?: Finally not feeling as nauseous in the mornings! Still have to search hard to find food that sounds good to eat though. Very tired, having a hard time falling asleep at night. But haven't thrown up in over a week!!
Rants/Raves: Let MH's cousin talk us into letting her throw us a gender reveal party for our family. Already have slight regrets. We were team green with our first, so everyone is a little excited to find out what this one is
Questions: None at the moment
GTKY- What is your favorite food? Probably a tie between Mexican and Chinese
Team: As I always say, I root for the black and gold! But here we say, go green!
Upcoming Appointments: Just had our amazing ultrasound on Friday, and regular monthly check up this Thursday.
How are you feeling?: Feeling good. Still riding the excitement from that ultrasound. Definitely feels real now!
Rants/Raves: I think I forgot to post last week for the favorite/least favorite part of winter, but that's my current rant. It snowed, then warmed up slightly to turn the snow to slush, and then temperatures dropped and the slush all froze. So now I'm too nervous to take our puppy outside on my own for fear that I'll slip. I'm clumsy as it is, but now it's not just me that I have to worry about injuring.
Questions: none
GTKY- What is your favorite food? I love popcorn! Might have to pop some for a snack this afternoon.
How are you feeling?: I still have an off stomach in the afternoons/evenings, but feeling so much better than the round-the-clock nausea from a few weeks ago.
Rants/Raves: I broke out the pregnancy pillow last night and it was GLORIOUS.
Questions:
GTKY- What is your favorite food? This is tough, probably Indian. But @wisewitch222 has me got me dreaming of a currently forbidden soft cheese like La Tur on crusty bread.
@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 Same here, it warmed up a little and then re-froze everything. We live in this little community of townhouses and our roads never get plowed so it's just a giant ice rink out there. We just need a few days of sunshine to melt it all but I don't think that'll happen for a while.
EDD / Weeks + Days: 8/7 12w1d
Baby is the size of a(n): Swedish Fish or plum
Team: Finding out! My OB doesn't do gender scans any earlier than 16 weeks, but if we want it before the 20 week anatomy scan then we can get one, we just have to pay extra which is fine by me.
Upcoming Appointments: TOMORROW
How are you feeling?: Generally good. Got a cold this week, so that was annoying but I'm starting to feel better. Nausea seems gone though my boobs were THROBBING last night. My DD wanted to cuddle and I kept repositioning her because her shoulder was jabbing into my very tender boob.
Rants/Raves: This is gonna be the dumbest rant but I'm getting annoyed with my family constantly asking how I feel. My MIL keeps saying I have morning sickness which is such a tiny thing to be bugged about but it's all day sickness, not morning sickness, and it comes and goes throughout my pregnancies so asking me if I'm done being nauseous every day is getting on my nerves. I also feel really weird talking to my family about this pregnancy. I'm glad they know but I also loved it being just MH and DD who knew, it felt so special and now everyone is asking me about everything and I just want to be left alone. Maybe it's the leftover cold and my resentment about not getting a day of rest at all, so I think I need some serious R&R time.
Questions:
GTKY- What is your favorite food? Normally, I'd eat a good cheeseburger and fries any day of the week but lately I haven't been feeling it. I also love Chinese food and general food truck food like tacos, corn dogs, soft pretzels...
@furmama2babymama were covered in ice and now it’s snowing on top of that. And now I want popcorn! @starkette mmmmmm soft pretzel!!! I hope you can get the r&r you desperately need!
@starkette Ugh, I hate talking about my body. Luckily I think I mentioned that enough times my first pregnancy that my family isn't bothering me about it now. Just a "How are you feeling?" at the beginning of the conversation.
@lmaplejc You can eat the soft cheese if they're made from pasteurized milk! And all my favorite Wegmans ones are, so
@fuzzywombat oh I am so sorry about your cat. One of our dog is 14, going on 15 this year and MH and I are worried about him because some of his problems are for sure worsening. All of that to say that I can emphasize.
On Dec 23rd, we had to take my husky (almost 15 years old) to the vet. He deteriorated so quickly. We had to put him down, and my heart was broken into a billion pieces. But I think he was holding on as if to say, "You're going to be someone else's mommy now." So I'm at peace knowing that we made the right choice, and that he lived a good long life. I can tell you love your pets, but you're going to be wonderful mamas. 💚💛 praying for peace for you.
@fuzzywombat ahhhhh no, I'm so sorry! we have a super senior old man cat (uncertain of age, we adopted when he was old, but he's around 18) and he's really starting to deteriorate, too. Losing weight, ravenous all the time, though the vet can't find anything physically wrong, he's just aging. It's soooo hard. My heart goes out to you.
@lmaplejc If you don't have Wegmans near you, I don't. 😔 Their store brand bries and camembert are so good I don't even look for the fancier brands even when not pregnant.
ETA - my first pregnancy we had Trader Joe's and I'm trying to think what cheeses I got there. I definitely ate them. If you have a TJ's I would just go there and read all the labels to find pasteurized. The national brands like Presidente are pasteurized but sub-par.
@fuzzywombat I’m so sorry. It’s so tough when our pets get older. As with a few others, I can empathize. My pup is only 12 but has diabetes and terrible hips and knees. He falls down the stairs all the time. Luckily he’s just 8/10lbs so he can be carried if needed but it’s so tough watching them get older.
I was waiting until yesterday's appointment to post my update but didn't get a chance to yesterday!
EDD / Weeks + Days: 8/6, 12 + 5
Baby is the size of a(n): Plum
Team: Finding out
Upcoming Appointments: Just had one yesterday
How are you feeling?: Just the normal end of first tri pregnancy symptoms.
Rants/Raves: Rant: Yesterday I had a frustrating appointment. Last appointment, when talking to the NP, we decided I'd get my STD testing done via a urine sample instead of a cervical swab to avoid more spotting (since I was still having it quite frequently at the time). Well, what they didn't tell me was, they weren't using the urine sample they collected that day, and instead I had to a lab to get it done. At the same time, they ordered blood work to get done. None of this was communicated. So when I came in for my appointment yesterday (at a different location with a different NP), they were like, oh we are going to do your cervical STD swab. I explained I thought it was getting done by testing the urine sample but they told me I hadn't gone to the lab so they wanted to do it then... I literally was so peeved. Not because they wanted to do the cervical swab (I haven't spotted in a few weeks so I had not problem with that), but because they didn't communicate correctly the first time. I told them as much but I don't think they actually believed me.
Questions:
GTKY- What is your favorite food? I love Arabic food.
@darkrose88 I’m sorry. That sounds very frustrating. I think you can definitely turn down cervical checks, especially with a hx of spotting. I’m surprised she even want to do it. Hopefully they can be more clear with communication in the future!
Team: *shrugs* not finding out sex if that’s what this is about
Upcoming Appointments: Feb 4
How are you feeling?: Less nausea than last week, but still pretty gross. Tired, gassy. Fun times.
Rants/Raves: I’m applying for jobs and finishing my PhD, and I’m concerned that I won’t get hired because of my bump. I know it’s illegal, but I also know there’s any number of other “reasons” they would choose someone else, and, even if I did get hired, the job would start like a week after my due date, which doesn’t feel like something I can physically or emotionally do. Sigh.
Questions: Hmmm… any tips for dealing with nausea and/or maintaining focus with pregnancy brain?
GTKY- What is your favorite food? Hard to pick one. I really love tex-mex and basically any carb covered with toppings (like pasta or fries or rice). Also big salads, but they’re annoying to make, so I don’t have them as often as I want/should.
@bunnypup What are you getting your PhD in? I know several moms who got hired for tenure track humanities jobs while pregnant. A tenure-track job is such an investment, no one's going to quit one ten weeks into maternity leave, I feel like that's the least of hiring committees' considerations. I wouldn't want to be pregnant on the job market because of the traveling, but there's a lot less of that now with the covid anyway.
@wisewitch222 I’m getting my PhD in English. That’s really refreshing to hear about other people getting hired for tenure track humanities jobs while pregnant. The traveling is a bit of a concern, but interviews are all happening over Zoom at least. One place I interviewed said there would be in-person campus visits (if I’m invited) sometime in March, and I can’t remember if the other place said visits would be in person or virtual.
Anyway, thanks for sharing that info. I’ve been feeling really stressed about the while thing lately but can’t put my family on hold.
@bunnypup Good luck on the job market! Remember it's a crap shoot anyway and if you don't get hired, it almost certainly has nothing to do with you! Also, nice to see another humanity on here. I have a PhD in history.
