  • I don't know why I keep looking at the "odds of miscarrying" charts.  This early in pregnancy they do nothing but make me anxious rather than reassure me.

I have not.  I think I'll stay away from it.  WTF indeed. People suck.

  • I'm so freaking cold. I can't tell if it's a pregnancy thing or if it's just that freaking cold. It was -9 F yesterday with wind chill advisory at -30 F but our thermostat says it's been 68. I've got a hearing pad on my chest trying to keep me warm. My toddler if fine running around naked and doesn't want to wear clothes. So is it just me?

I have no idea if it's the cold or what (it wasn't horrible here today, but we're in the season when it can get to be single digits [Fahrenheit]). I'm so cold this pregnancy! 🥶

I try not to too, but it kind of helps me be like ok, one more day down, another X% lower chance. Self-reassurance haha. It’s hard not to think about it so might as well swing it positive.

***I don't know why it's typing this in the quote box, but here we are....at my age and miscarriage hx, it's still at 26.8% at 5 weeks right now, which is still awfully high.  I'll feel a lot better when I get to 7 or 8 weeks.

  • I've been cold too! Must be a pregnancy thing. I think I'll try to enjoy it though because come summer we'll all be 7/8 months pregnant and it's gonna be sweltering😂
  • @whitta1015 k, I had to look up the video and oh.my.goodness! I hope that baby gets to be in the custody of someone who loves them. I also hope that girls gets some treatment because no way someone sane would throw their baby in the trash like that! Just sickening. So glad the baby was found alive.
  • @babywii I guess that's true I should be OK with it now, normally when pregnant I'm so hot constantly. Like sweating all the time. Though with my last 2 I was 20 weeks by the time winter started so definitely had a little extra to keep me warm.
  • @babywiik Isn't it awful? I read that she claimed she didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth or something like that. I have no idea how that's even possible. She could have at least dropped the baby off at a police station under Safe Haven or something.
  • Is anyone else finding the whole “don’t tell anyone til past 12 weeks” easier said than done? It’s only been barely a week since I’ve known I was pregnant, but it’s been really lonely not to have many others to talk about this with IRL. I told my mom immediately since I wanted at least one other person to check in with, then she told my dad with my permission just yesterday. I’m respecting hubs’ wishes to wait to tell his own family, but I told him last night that I really wanted to share this with my sisters (especially the one who’s due with her first in early Feb!) and I did last night. None of them are on social media much and our families are all far apart from each other and I trust them not to blab. We don’t live near any family either so no one would likely see / suspect anything different about me right now (although I must say I already feel huge!). Anyway, I feel better already just having a few others who know and who can check on me. Next week I might say something to my running partner too since we’re starting our weekly runs again and I’m going to have to tell her that I’ll need to skip mornings and go a little slower than our usual paces …
  • @theblondebump How did your ultrasound go?
    DD 10/2019
  • @runsonoatmeal
Yeah, I hate it, but because I'm prone to first trimester losses I don't want to share until I get HB confirmation at the very least.  I kept things pretty tight last time until after my 12 week ultrasound.

  • @trapperkeeper87 just posted in the January appointments thread! Healthy babe with a strong heartbeat! Thank you for asking :) Only ONE baby though lol.

Definitely makes sense! This is my first rodeo so we'll see ...
  • @trapperkeeper87 @jhysmath I have been SO cold lately and can’t seem to get warm and was wondering if that was a pregnancy thing! So weird!
  • @x_tina729
I have  no middle ground - I'm either boiling or freezing

  • @x_tina729 Same! I’m so cold. It’s winter, so there’s that. But it does feel excessive. And, I’m in LA. 🤣

On another topic, I’m a manager. I’m my boss’s right hand. We’re really busy and have a lot going on and many direct reports (it’s a team of 10). So, we were just in a meeting (on Zoom) with my boss, her assistant, and me. We set a date for our biggest event of the year. It’s a weekend long film festival (all virtual). It’s going to be September 9-11, 2022. There was something I was not thinking about this whole meeting…

I think it’s too early to tell my boss. She and I are super close. She’s so supportive. This festival can be done without me (I mean technically, I’ll need to do a ton of work in the lead up, but there is an event coordinator and the team can work it). But, when I realized, I was tempted to tell my boss. I’ll tell her after the 8 week ultrasound. I just need to see the bean and hear the heart beat first. 3 weeks to go until then. But, it’s so weird working remotely. It’s going to be much easier to keep this quiet! Last time I was walking around with folders and notebooks in front of my belly and long flowy scarves well into May and June! I’ve heard you get big much faster with second pregnancies!
  • @magnolia209 I'm here with number 3 and put on a maternity shirt today because our school is freezing and I don't have any long sleeve shirts to wear under my cardigans. I'm a bigger person, but the cut of the shirt definitely made it look like a bump thankfully I had my cardigan to cover it up.

I was talking to our principal yesterday looking to get a buzzer system for my academic team, as we lost this year because they can't buzz quick enough. He was looking for money and called the secretary in charge of a bunch of accounts, and she asked him why do we need those, there won't be a team next year, and my principal asked why not, and I guess she said she thought I was pregnant. My principal asked me if I was pregnant again, and I lied to him. I feel bad, but I really don't know how they'd know. I asked my husband if he had said anything we work at the same school, and he said no. I feel bloated, but I don't think I actually look pregnant.
  • Okay, WTF.  I woke up at like 1:30 in the morning because my dogs were restless.  And then all of a sudden I smell cat piss...everywhere.  Since my master bedroom is a casita, completely separate from the main part of the house where our indoor cats live and has an entirely separate HVAC system, I was like WTF?  The boy person and I spent like 15 minutes with the blacklight, but couldn't find it.  Our best guess is that a feral stray pissed into the HVAC unit and the smell is coming from the vents.  FML.  Because what the hyper-sensitive-to-smells pregnant lady really needs is to sleep with the reek of cat piss. I don't think there's anything that can be done with it other than try to air it out and wait for it to go away on its own.

  • @kboydbowman when I was pregnant with my first there was a terrible smell where we were living. I figured it was just my pee smelling bad as a result of being pregnant and ignored it. A couple days later my husband smells it and questions it. I said I thought it was my urine as the small was in our master bathroom. He was like no that's the smell of mice. He put out bait and ended up killing them because then I learned what dead mouse in the walls smell like 🤢🤮 I don't recommend while pregnant.

Also on the thoughts of smell, I remember gagging in the shower, because the smell of our water. Never except pregnant did I think tap water smells.
  • @jhysmath For some reason that last part made me think of the last time I was pregnant...I was at work one day and a girl walked in talking about this cheeseburger she had just gotten at Hardee's and was describing it like they do on the commercials like "Double bacon garlic mushroom swiss cheeseburger" or some crap like that and I ran to the bathroom and threw up just hearing her describe food like that. hahaha
  • @whitta1015 When I was pregnant with my daughter, any time I saw a bag of peanut butter M&M's (we had a share size bag floating around the house at the time), I wanted to throw up. This time I can't hear my husband say, "cookie," without feeling queasy. So strange!

  • haha it’s so annoying how sensitive our pregnant selves are with smells!! Last pregnancy I only threw up one time. I ate watermelon and then immediately threw it up, it was odd. No more watermelon for me haha. Tonight I used a public restroom and there was an unpleasant smell, and it immediately made me throw up! Hopefully that’s my one and only time of this pregnancy!

I really hate the heightened sense of smell though. Our cleaning lady used vinegar for cleaning something today and I can’t stand it!! My husband got out of the shower and I was like ew. I hate the smell of your soap. And he’s like it’s not even scented, it’s just soap, how do you even smell it? But I did lol. I smell EVERYTHING and I hate 90% of them. Don’t even get me started on changing poopy diapers right now, my husband has to handle all of them because I dry heave like crazy and it scares my daughter lol!
  • @theblondebump That's so funny! Heightened sense of smell isn't something I deal with in pregnancy because it's something I live every single day of my life. I smell everything and can barely handle some things. I find it hilarious when pregnant women talk about all the smells and I'm like, wait, you can't normally smell that? 😄
    DD 10/2019
  • @theblondebump Oh I feel for you! I did get very slightly nauseous using the public bathroom at preschool today. But I have to pee every 5 seconds! Oddly, my smell is not heightened so far this time. It was intensely heightened last time! So I remember and sympathize! I just got nauseous because it was a little gross.
  • @magnolia209
I think I have peed 30 times today.  Not exaggerating.

  • @theblondebump I can't do smells either. Thankfully my daughter poops at daycare 😂 and then yesterday because we had a half day and I had her at her normal pooping time, I put her in underwear because she won't poop on them. She waited until bedtime and pooped in the potty for me. The smell thing might be enough motivation for me to potty train her completely.
  • @runsonoatmeal Yes, definitely it’s so hard to wait! You absolutely should do what is best for you! I have only told my one friend, but it’s such a relief to have someone who knows! We like to wait until after the 8 week ultrasound before telling our immediate families. But they are not here, so that’s not too hard. We told them last time by texting the ultrasound picture with my husband’s business card next to the picture. My husband is a craftsman and instrument technician and that’s how he photographs everything he works on! It was pretty funny. We literally did it from the car in the parking lot at the doctors office. We couldn’t wait!

But I do like to wait until after the 12 week NIPT and ultrasound (if you are getting those, I’m over 35). I just want to know everything is okay. You learn a lot then and feel a lot more confident!
  • Found out today that my massage therapist does indeed do pregnancy massage.  Yay!

  • @kboydbowman the best!

My husband surprised me for my birthday (12/28) with a massage therapist that came to our house. When he first booked it, I wasn’t pregnant (or at least we didn’t know lol) but thankfully she was fine with still doing it even though I was in the first trimester. It was glorious.
