First ultrasound

How many weeks were you all when you had first ultrasound?

Re: First ultrasound

  • We will have our first ultrasound at 7 weeks. Since we have an IVF pregnancy we have to do it a little earlier.
  • Loading the player...
  • I’ll be 8+2
  • I’ll be 9w
  • Mine is February 7. I’ll be 7 + 4.

  • Don't know yet.  We'll see what they say at my visit on the 22nd.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • My ultrasound is scheduled 2/14 which will be 10w3d. Feels like forever from now.
  • Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I had mine at 5 weeks 2 days. It’s my first pregnancy and I wasn’t entirely sure of my last period date, so my doctor went ahead and ordered an early one to help confirm.
  • Typically just one ultrasound here in Norway. It'll be around 18 or 20 weeks for the anatomy/anomaly (I've heard it being called both...what is it for real?😅) scan. Around 12 weeks I'll have an appt with the midwife and hear the heartbeat with a doppler.
  • @babywiik Here in the US it's called an anatomy scan

First ultrasound was today. Based on LMP, should be at 6w2d, but only measuring 5w4d. Dr saw what could be a little pulsing for heartbeat, but the machine was also giving her fits (had to be rebooted). She said it’s really too early, so we go back next Friday to try again. Gonna be a nerve wracking week. Was hoping the ultrasound would give me a little more surety in all this. Guess that’ll be the hope for next week 🤞
Did you go off of your average cycle length? Something I’m factoring in is that my cycles are usually 34-38 days, not 28, so I ovulated ~10 days later than the due date predictors are going off of. Little bean might not have had as much time in there as it looks like based on LMP. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it (I’m not a doctor and it’s my first so I really don’t know lol) but I wouldn’t worry too much yet. Easier said than done though!

I honestly don’t know lol. 10+ years ago my cycle was about 35 days. I’ve been on birth control for a decade, though. Came off in October and the last 2 months we’re closer to 29 days. It’s certainly possible I ovulated later if my body was getting back into the old cycle post birth control. The doctor didn’t really seem concerned. Just said the dates were probably a little off and it’s too early by a few days. She said we’ll try again next week and should definitely be able to see more then. Just stinks to wait another week.

@laj0217 I can’t remember if you were having one early for a specific reason. Sorry you didn’t get more peace of mind. One of my good friends went in at 6 weeks and they couldn’t see anything! She then had to go home for thanksgiving not knowing! Eeek! It was just too early. She went back at 8 weeks and everything was good! Little Gus Gus is now 3.5. She told me this story. 4 days later I found out I was pregnant the first time. It definitely helped me wait and is helping me now. I say all this realizing you may have a medical or other great reason for an ultrasound at 6 weeks. I just don’t remember!

I finally got mine scheduled! It’s February 4. I’ll be 8w2d. It’s hard to wait patiently! I definitely went out and got more pregnancy tests today.
  • @magnolia209 no reason except for dating. It’s standard at my doctors office 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess it did help with dates lol, just earlier than we thought. And I’m an anxious person anyway, so expecting one thing and having something else happen threw me a little.
  • @laj0217 with my first daughter I went in with spotting at 6+3 they said I measured 7+2 and there was no heartbeat so I was having a miscarriage, said there should be a hb by them regardless of my dates or theirs. I went back the following week and there was the hb. They also insisted that 7+2 was correct because they based it on my lmp but I know I ovulate on day 22.for my second daughter I lied about lmp so they wouldn't go by it.
  • First ultrasound 24th of Jan for dating scan. Then will have the 12w nuchal fold scan & 20 week anatomy scan. The next 2 weeks can’t come fast enough!
  • First dr appointment and ultrasound scheduled for January the 27th! I’ll be 8 weeks and 2 days. So excited to get to see and hear baby instead of just feeling them through uncomfortable symptoms. I think I will feel so much more confident when I know the baby is in the right place, viable, and that there is 1 or 2 for sure etc. Just a little extra info to help visualize our future!

@alexissday My ultrasound is the same day and I'll be 8+1! Can't wait to see that heartbeat to calm my nerves a little.
  • @jhysmath I hate that you have to change your dates to get respectful care. That’s so crappy! My doctor just waved off the dates, and based it on size and said we tried a week too early. Very glad she was so reassuring. I feel all of these comments about wanting the reassurance of a heartbeat so much!
  • @laj0217 doctors base everything on a 28 day cycle and ovulating on day 14. Which isn't true for a lot of women. When I tried for my daughter, I charted for a year and the earliest I ovulated was on day 15. Most common was by far day 17. My cycles are 32 days on average.
Everything is approximative. There is an error margin of about 1 week.

  • @rikiteacup yep we were about 6 days off!
  • I will be 7 weeks even! Jan 26th
  • @rikiteacup I have a 32 day cycle and ovulate on day 22. I tracked for years and only a couple times did a ovulate before CD 20.

@laj0217 I really don't understate why they won't use an ovulation date, if I know when I ovulate. Also I find it very important to give the latest date possible, because my hospital won't induce for a vbac, she when I had gd with my first they won't let you go post dates with gd. So if I went with lmp, I'd be a week under due when they'd make me have my baby or c-section.
  • @jhysmath
I always love this concept of "let" - what are they going to do, handcuff you to a bed and force a C-section?
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I had my first ultrasound done 1/5 when I was only 4w5d because I work in an OB office and I just had to have the pregnancy confirmed. I had another on 1/10 and will have another 1/24 at 7 weeks to follow up
  • @jhysmath @kboydbowman haha yes, this! I said that today, I was like well I don’t really care what the due date is but I want to make sure I’m not going to have an issue if I have GD and you want to induce at 39 weeks. What if I don’t want to? And she was like well we’d strongly recommend blah blah blah and I was like yeah but if I don’t want to, will you MAKE me, or will you respect my decision? And she was like wellllll we can’t MAKE you do anything, we’re not going to come to your house and drag you to the hospital so ultimately everything is technically your decision. And I was like Mk, well I’m asking these questions so that I don’t have an issue down the road. Like this feels very adversarial and I don’t want to have to fight with someone to make my own choice. Then she chilled a little when I called her out.
  • @theblondebump
I'm going to fight to be allowed a TOL VBAC after a traditional C-section without early delivery.  We'll see what they say.

  • Also, so women carry their babies longer than others. My grandma had 44 week pregnancies with her first 7 kids and then her 8th pregnancy was twins and they were born two weeks "early" at 42 weeks. Many of my aunts have had long labors because they were induced. I wonder how much of that was because their bodies were simply not ready to birth and had they been able to wait would have birth just fine on their own?🤔
  • @babywiik wow! Your grandma is a champion!

And I totally agree. With my last pregnancy, they were “requiring” me to be induced at 39 weeks because of GD, but actually my baby was only 6 lbs 12.5 oz when she was born and had zero issues whatsoever associated with GD. I really really did not want to be induced, I wanted the baby to come on her own and I didn’t want to do pitocin or a foley bulb or any other medical stuff to force her out. Thankfully, I had a membrane sweep at I think 38+3 and she came on her own at 38+5. And I had the best birth experience ever, easy peasy!
  • @theblondebump
don't get me started on the medicalization of birth....if I had midwifery as an option around here, I would pay out of pocket and do it.  But they won't touch VBAC w/a traditional Caesarean with a 10 foot pole for liability reasons. :(

First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

  • @kboydbowman I understand the "let" where I'm at, because these are very small rural hospitals. With my first two, I had to drive 1.5 hours to any of the 3 hospitals with a maternity dept. I would drive past two hospitals to get to them, that had no maternity dept. They don't have the resources to deal with any complications really. They can do planned c-sections, but can't really do unplanned ones. Having my second at a large hospital, first it was strange that there were other people having babies at the same time, and second it was so odd to be rolled to a room 3 doors down for a c-section. With my first, the OR is on the first floor and then we took the elevator (the one anyone can use,) up to recovery. There's no special maternity Or there's only 2 elevators in the whole hospital.
  • Our first appointment is February 10th. We got a sneak peek last week at the ER due to some bleeding I was having. It was so reassuring to see baby’s heartbeat flutter onscreen. We were 6 weeks and measured 6 weeks 1 day right on track. I cannot wait to see baby again!
  • @jhysmath that makes a little more sense in a rural hospital with less capabilities, I feel like they are guiding your choices literally for your own safety. That is def not the case here, our hospital is one of the top hospitals in the country with world class care. They are fully capable of dealing with any situation and yet, there is still so much pressure to do things in a way that is easiest for the doctors or as quickly as possible, etc. Very frustrating!
  • @theblondebump yeah that would be super frustrating, I understand in my case, and that's why I'm given an option to go to the larger hospital.
  • I did iui so had 1st ultrasound at 5w6d. Then again at 6w6d and got the heartbeat :) We just got released from the fertility team and first OB visit will be a telehealth session on 1/27 which will be 8w6d. Not sure when I’ll see OB in person.
  • yay for heartbeats!
