3rd Trimester

Bad leg veins / varicose and spider veins

Hi! I’m 33 y/o with my first pregnancy snd ive had horrible spider veins, vericose veins, and vulva varicosities. Does anyone have any experience with this in their first pregnancy or any? Did it go away? Will I need to do a lot of treatments to get rid of them if they were only induced from pregnancy? I’m so upset about how they look but they also burn and hurt sometimes. I don’t have any clots I had a vein specialist check it out but I’m spiraling over having to live with these ugly things!!

Re: Bad leg veins / varicose and spider veins

  • @tizzy1001 I would definitely talk to a doctor if they're causing pain. I normally have spider veins, and while they're certainly not my favorite, mind didn't get that bad while pregnant so I honestly don't even remember them.

BUT. I absolutely remember the VV I had during delivery. It was brutal. Every cervical check was excruciating until I got an epidural. Good news is, I guess it eventually went away because it's been 3 years and never felt it again. Not sure if it will pop up with this pregnancy, but I'm hoping if it does it goes away shortly after birth.

I never had VV, but I had severe varicose veins in my legs during my 1st pregnancy.  To this day they still are there and are awefuly ugly, but I've learned to embrace them, as I do not have the $$$ to get them taken care of.  Sorry you are dealing w/ it.  For me it was bad, still there (years later) and for me it is what it is.

  • I got a horribly big vericose vein down my whole right leg with my first pregnancy. After baby it went down but never went away, second pregnancy made it worse and now the third… it’s horrible. I’ve been wearing my compression stocking since week 18. I’ve also gotten more spider veins this pregnancy. My OB said to not get it removed/fixed til I’m done having babies, this is our last so I will be getting it removed this year sometime and I can’t wait. It’s very painful while pregnant and HUGE. I also have the Vuvla veins while pregnant, but so far, they have gone away after!
  • I have VV that appeared on my left leg side and some of them look like someone beat me up. I have to wear pants because they just look awful. They don’t hurt until I accidentally touch it.. also I’ve got it badly on my vulva, also on left side, (apparently dr said it’s all on one side due to baby’s back being on the left hence more weight). Dr said it should all go away after birth so I’m hoping this is the case. It’s my 1st pregnancy and they started to appear around week 22-24. To help ease discomfort I wear compression socks, try to elevate my legs when I can, don’t cross legs when seating and I wear supportive belly band anytime I go on walks or any lengthy errands runs.
  • I didn’t have any painful VV with my 2 previous births, but this 3rd pregnancy: yowch. If I stand too long without moving/walking or immediately after sex, my VV are painful until I get moving again. This will be my last pregnancy because VV get worse with each successive pregnancy. Also debuting this pregnancy are the lady-bit region veins 😣. I am getting mine taken care of immediately after this pregnancy.
