2 things: - I received my Panorama kit in the mail today! Gunna go get my blood drawn and send this baby out! yay!!
- I'm hitting the really awkward stage where my clothes aren't fitting quite right anymore (both due to baby + plus eating total garbage for the past 4 weeks). I can't button my pants anymore and my shirts are ever so slightly tighter. But I'm not ready to pull the trigger to full maternity. It's right between seasons right now, so I don't want to buy maternity shorts either. It's not the best solution, but I think I'm going to go with the bella band for a month or so to get me through this awkward stage so I can still wear my existing wardrobe for a bit longer. I was quite a bit smaller for my first pregnancy, so I'm not sure what will fit me in my maternity box either
I think we've decided we're just going to let the OB tell me over the phone boy/girl from the Harmony NIPT test, I'll tell DH, and then (assuming everything is genetically fine) we'll do a little surprise sex reveal thing for DD3. I got some biodegradable confetti + colored powder canon things (NOT smoke, omg, NOT smoke; we will not be responsible for burning down northern California), and I think that'll make it more exciting for her - especially if it's a boy since she's so convinced it's a girl.
Today a coworker and I were talking about her kid getting in trouble because he wore a "mean people suck" patch years ago on a hat. She said, "I didn't think he really knew what it meant, you know, but I guess he did " she looked at me all expectantly and I was like, "it means that mean people are bad?" And she was like, "no, no, it means mean people suck...penises." I tolder her that I thought you just said, " that sucks d*ck" when meaning it that way, otherwise "sucks" was just "bad." Her kids are slightly younger than me.
So! Help me settle this! Does "this sucks." Really mean "this sucks d*ck" or is it just "this is bad". I'm a teacher, so really this debate was whether or not slipping and saying it around older kids was horrifying or just funny.
@SmashJam omfg no, she's insane. I hate this bullisht. Kids joke a lot about blowjobs from a pretty early age so I'm pretty confident we don't need to rely on the word "suck" to do all the legwork anymore for that lane of comedy.
Getting moved into the new place! We still have most of the kitchen. We lived in the basement suite of our house but after being on mat leave for 15 months, I needed some light so we bought another house so I could be upstairs.one thing I miss is how hot it was down there. It was always about 21°c and now up here it's around 19°c and I feel so cold all the time.
@SmashJam so, I can kind of see where she’s getting that. In my mind it just means bad, but my 88 y/o grandmother hates that word and equates it to a “curse word” bc in her mind it means suck d*ck. So maybe the person who disciplined the kid had the same line of thinking as my grandmother. I’m confident that for my generation it just means “bad”. That’s how I use it anyway.

@Blondesweety444 I am 100% right there with you. I have a hair tie on my jeans today and I am thinking about buying some maternity pants. I'm not sure if my stuff from last time will fit me either.
@SmashJam I agree with @shlecks. Still, given its origins, I do think it’s on the cruder side. Same level of crudeness as “what the hell?” or “damn it!” I wouldn’t be wild about wearing it on clothing. Saying it around older children is just funny, though, not horrifying.
My NIPT results came in! I just checked my voicemail!! But I'm on hold calling them back lol they didn't leave any info on my voicemail of course ahhhhhh
@doxiemoxie212, that’s exciting. Last time when we used Sema4, we got an email to check the results online. They even make a cute video for the sex reveal. It took about a week last year.
I am now waiting for mine! Did the blood draw yesterday.

wow @doxiemoxie212 that seems super fast!! we're going camping with a bunch of my family this weekend so it would be super fun to have the results by then, but seems unlikely. We used Natera/Panorama so the timing could be completely different.
@SmashJam I definitely think of “sucks” as bad and not as a sexual thing although I guess I can see how one would get there.
@doxiemoxie212 My niece (4) still talks about having a sister and she has a 6 month old (ish) brother and has been told there will be no more siblings, lol.
DS2 and I visited my mom, step dad and grandma for a couple days. DS2 was SO excited because my mom has cats and he is obsessed with cats (we have dogs). He was so cute meowing at the cat who would tolerate him and every time I try to explain I have babies in my belly he tells me they are kittens. Then he usually tries to bite me or bonk me with his head. I think the sibling transition will be smooth.
@zamoraspin2 my BFF says her brother literally gave her PTSD. She was about the same age gap DD3 and this baby will be, and her parents were team green. They told her over and over it could be a boy, but she was convinced it would be a girl, and she'd gotten pretty much every big important thing she wanted in her life up to that point, so when it was a boy it completely shattered her world view. She deeply hated him for the first 12 years of his life hahahaha (we met in daycare so I remember this for her too). At least they're close now?
@doxiemoxie212 I mean I will say as someone who has a lot of siblings (one full, two step, and two half sisters, yes, all sisters) you can’t predict whether siblings will get along. I’m really close with my full and one of my half sisters, but my two step sisters no longer speak with each other and my two half sisters are oil and water and have never gotten along. Also my full sister and I would physically fight each other as little kids and I was honestly mean to her on and off until I was like 13. DH has a little sister and they’re pretty close even though they grew up mostly separate (parents each had custody of one).
@zamoraspin2 totally - DH has 3 younger brothers, and he hates the one 18mo younger, is fine with the one 5 years younger and is close to the one 10 years longer. But it really wasn't ultimately that he was a boy that triggered my BFF - it was really the abrupt shift in her world view that she couldn't actually wish for something "important" and have it come true, and she took it out on him.
I'm an only child so siblings are foreign to me lol but my best friends when I was little were always boys (my bff and I didn't actually get close until mid high school).
Question: It's the car seat trade in at Target right now- too early to invest in a travel system for new baby? Part of me is like DON'T JINX IT, other part is like GET ON IT.

Ah! Thank you! I tried looking up when the event would be a few weeks ago and was too early. And hadn’t heard about it till now. My infant seat expired this summer so I definitely want to do this.
They usually have one in spring too, but will probably be the same month we’re all due. I traded in a different seat for my SIL this April, the event was in the first two weeks of April and the coupon lasted until May 1. So you would still have time before purchasing, if that helps.
@bluecampanula Good call, I didn't even think about how I can keep the coupon at least a little bit before I purchase something. Even if it's just a few weeks.
Super annoyed its right now and not late October (the trade in event). Closest target it almost two hours from me but one is opening late october 20 minutes away. I'm just gonna have to wait for the spring one.
Trying to keep everyone in the dark but husband about pregnancy is super difficult when I can barely leave the bed. Child is catching on, " Mom why are you in bed a lot?" "Honey, I'm just tired." My mom is visiting and randomly this weekend we had a hurricane scare so we had to throw away all our food in fridge because of loss of power. So I conveniently have food poisoning. It was the only way to explain the nausea and tiredness without having a contagious disease. My husband actually did get food poisoning so it's believable. I dislike lying but in 3 weeks when we vacation with my husband's parents and my parents in the beach house all will be revealed and it will be so worth it I just have to keep reminding myself. We bought a shirt for my daughter that says big sister, finally! And we are going to give it to her at the beach house with everyone there. It will be awesome and I should be 12 weeks and we will have NIPT and a lot more security that all this will work out as I have miscarried before. Just 3 more weeks.
My father in law congratulated me at my husband's grandpa's celebration of life yesterday. He hadn't seen me since we told my MIL. So my BIL overheard, as well as H's cousin. H's cousin told her mom, BIL told SIL. H's aunt told me I was already showing and just needed to tell people already. I thought his other aunt overheard so I told our cousins so they wouldn't hear it from her. Then I went to get a drink and my SIL congratulated me in front of my MIL's cousin. So her and her husband were like, NO WAY! Then it turns out H's aunt hadn't overheard, but she found out because I was talking about it around her thinking she had. I went out to H and said, everyone knows except Kevin, pointing to his friend. Kevin says, "Oh I know already. Congratulations! Did you think a big Italian family was gonna be able to keep this a secret?" LOL. Anyway so now the whole family knows, which wasn't my plan for a few more weeks but NBD. Kids still don't know, they're gonna get shirts.
@SmashJam, sounds like y’all peeled it off like a bandaid! Fun story!
DH told our neighbor before we told our parents, they were talking about winterizing the hot tub and neighbor goes, we still have a few weeks/months. DH says well the wife can’t use it, and then realizes he has to explain why….

@SmashJam omggg lol! I am totally envisioning this in my head.
I feel kind of bad for my kids because even though only a handful of really close family members know, we are waiting for NIPT/12 weeks to tell them. I feel like they are my closest family members besides DH so I feel almost like betraying them or something (though I still believe it’s in their best interest overall). My oldest is also really catching on with my pm sickness and food aversions. I guess she announced to her whole class that “mommy has a cold and now she can’t drink coffee anymore” I’m sure those kids are like huhhh 🤣

Yeah so in summary I think of “sucks” as being bad/a bummer. The other wouldn’t have crossed my mind. 🤷♀️
