How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DD is 6.
How are your other kids doing this week? Week three of homeschooling first grade and we’re doing okay. Luckily I built a “quick option” into our daily schedule, where we can cut out a lot of the extracurricular stuff on days we don’t feel like doing a lot, so even though most days we don’t even start until 10 am we’re still done by maybe 1 or 2. We’re reading “Farmer Boy” by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Ramona series from Beverly Cleary, which we’ve been loving. And DD has been extra sweet and understanding about my fatigue and nausea although we haven’t told her about the pregnancy yet. She’s very self-sufficient and on the days I just lay in bed or on the couch she’s able to get herself snacks and come read or play by me. I’m so thankful for her.
Rants/Raves: I feel like my time with her as just the two of us is slipping away and all I do is lay around and avoid her because I’m feeling so awful. Hard to dodge the mom guilt but I know she’ll be okay and things will (hopefully) be better in a few weeks. Right now just trying to be present with her in the ways that I’m able.
Concerns/Questions: Not really
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Our choices here on island are pretty limited, unless I want to order online. Target is the main one, but I love Boden and Tea. She’s very girly and mostly only wears dresses and shorts underneath— the dresses NEED to be twirly. I recently discovered Joy Folie and bought a few dresses on sale from them so we’ll see!
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? one daughter, 3y (can I suggest we actually refer to our kids as DD3 which would mean dear daughter 3yo? It would make it easier for me to track stories lol)
How are your other kids doing this week? She is SO obsessed with the baby. She lifts my shirt up and kisses "the baby" and tells the baby things. She's always asking how the baby is doing. "How dat baby doing mom??" And she keeps saying it is HER baby, and when I say it is not, she says "Well, I can just tetend (pretend) it is my baby, mom."
Rants/Raves: Rave - DD3 (see, I'm doing it!) is just really cute. I love this age. People talk isht about threenagers all the time, but I love it. Rant - I don't know, it's really hot today lol but today has mostly been a really good day, so I'm not really in a ranting mood.
Concerns/Questions:
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Usually Gap. Old Navy sometimes, Carters sometimes. I stock up during sales, which is easier to do in the bay area because I still need summer clothes in the winter and winter clothes in the summer lol.
***Lurking as a FTM*** @aloha_mama Has your DD always been homeschooled or did you just start with COVID? I know I have literally years to decide, but I love planning 🤪 and I’ve really been considering homeschooling lately. I would love to pick your brain and see your thoughts on your curriculum, etc! My mom is a retired teacher who currently teaches homeschooled kids online via virtual classes full time, but once baby is born she’ll be babysitting 3 days/week while I’m working, and she’s offered before to help homeschool if I ever wanted to alternate days to co-teach them from home. Just wanted to see your thoughts on how you like it for your daughter!
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DD4.5 and DD1 (15 months)…trying here @doxiemoxie212
How are your other kids doing this week?
My oldest started full day preK today! So excited for her, she acted like she had been going there for years haha. I hope she continues to enjoy school and make friends. My youngest had a fever from her latest vaccine (chickenpox), so she was feeling bleh…
Rants/Raves: can’t wait for my first ultrasound…this is the longest I have had to wait, with my first 2 I was seen multiple times starting at 6 weeks (history of recurrent loss). I really hope we have a good u/s!
Concerns/Questions: really anxious to tell the girls, but waiting until my 1st ultrasound 9w next week. This time, the oldest understands things much better so she suspects something, I mean why is mom with stomach aches and gagging all day long..and getting fat haha!
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Gap, Target, Carters, Etsy for speciality stuff I am also a sucker for IG advertisement so will impulse buy cute stuff that way.

@aloha_mama, the first trimester is no joke-exhausting! No need for mom-guilt. Your 6yo will be OK, she may even feel bad for you and start helping you out! In either case, take care of yourself, ask for help and rest as needed. You will bounce back in the 2nd trimester to your old self!

How are your other kids doing this week? My oldest just started preschool in a 3s program today! I can’t believe it. He had so much fun. It’s a forest school so he’s outside all day and loved it.
Rants/Raves: lamenting my poor taste right now (no, not Covid. I can taste sugar REAL easily). Spicy things taste so mild to me and spices seem dull to me recently. I miss spicy food. It’s weird that my sense of spice has dulled.
Concerns/Questions:
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Primary
@kiwi2628 there's a forest friends school here in town I really wanted to send DD3 to when I found out about it when she was a baby, but they make you promise to not show ANY screens to your kids within 24 hours of attending, and DD3 is a hardcore snitch so that wouldn't work. And they're deep in the boonies so I worry about allergic reactions and no cell reception. But I still think it sounds so so so fun for kids. I wish it was an option.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? I have one DD who is 15 months old.
How are your other kids doing this week? She's a teething mess. Poor girl has 3 molars coming in. 1 piping through and 2 big pumps. I feel so bad for her.
Rants/Raves: I started work Yesi after mat leave and it's been nice to be back around my team. I missed them alot. They promote a lot of fitness at my company and are doing Sunday walks. They have been around 16 km but this Sunday's will only be 10. 😅
Concerns/Questions: None
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? I mostly try to go to second hand stores now. We have a really great one close by. I go to old Navy, gap for new clothes.
@doxiemoxie212 ok that’s hardcore. Ours is at a nature center and they play outside and get muddy and make forts and pick flowers and hatch chicks but like what you do on your own time is on you
@minnie_yoga_mama We call ourselves “accidental homeschoolers” 😂 I was back and forth last year when she began kindergarten on what to do. We can’t afford private school and the school we are zoned for is just awful. No grass, no AC, barbed wire on top of the fences… And then on top of that our public school system doesn’t even allow recess now so if she wasn’t getting that peer interaction what was the point of sending her to school? So we literally decided to homeschool her the weekend before public schools started. Probably way more info than you wanted! But I never— and I mean NEVER— wanted to homeschool my kids. I don’t have the patience for it! So it never crossed my mind as an option… With all that being said, we love it 😭 I love the freedom it gives us to still take vacations when we want, field trips whenever we want, I’ve done school on the beach or on hikes or just in the backyard, and most days we don’t even start until 10 am but we’re still done in 2-3 hours. We only do school four days a week so it gives us a ton of flexibility. I don’t know if we’ll continue it next year but it’s great to know it’s do-able if we need to!
I love @doxiemoxie212 ‘s suggestion for referring to the kids’ ages!
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DS3 (will be 4 next month)
How are your other kids doing this week? He has gone through so many changes lately (leaving his old friends, moving to a new state, starting a new school) and is mostly handling it like a champ. A little bit more defiant behavior but not too bad. He started his new preschool today and was so excited. He kept telling me “bye mom” as soon as we entered the building 😂
Rants/Raves: While I love working and am absolutely not cut out to be a SAHM, sometime it makes me sad that on workdays I only see him for an hour in the morning and a couple hours at night.
Concerns/Questions: natm
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Carter’s/Osh Kosh, Target, Old Navy
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DS who just turned 5
How are your other kids doing this week?
Doing well! We just started online preschool and he’s doing pretty well. Killing the math activities, could use some work in language. This probably stems from the fact we’ve been terrible about reading to him. Oops!
Rants/Raves: DS5 is so excited! He’s always commenting about the baby and how excited he is. I’m not sad (for now anyways) about his limited time as a single child. His love language is definitely quality time and I can’t help but think how much he’s going to love having a sibling to spend time with. I’m going to be heart broken if they aren’t best buds!
Concerns/Questions:
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? DS3 basically doesn’t grow so most of his clothes last 2 seasons. Between gifts and hand me downs, I rarely buy anything. When I do buy clothes I mostly go to Target. This next kid is going to be a bit of a shock to the system! 😂
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DS is 8 and DD is 3
How are your other kids doing this week?
They’re doing great - both are super excited about the new baby. DS is even telling random people we meet that he’s getting another baby brother or sister lol
Rants/Raves: I hate that I feel so bad and am not playing with them like normal. But between nausea and tiredness I just can’t function.
Concerns/Questions: none
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes?
Fb resell sites for smocked/boutique clothes for DD and under armour for DS mainly. I love all the cute clothes!! Unfortunately DS is past that age.

How are your other kids doing this week?
We are in our second homeschool week and our church group started this week. Also our oldest 3 started soccer this week so we are busy busy. So far I am ultra impressed how well school is going. Everyone is keeping pace with or exceeding expectations.
My youngest is having a lot of struggles with his hypoglycemia lately and also going on food strikes (not ideal with hypoglycemia). Hoping we can get him more stable soon. The other two hypo kids (DD5 and DS3) have had some little but manageable glitches with starting all the activities and being overexcited and not eating well.
Rants/Raves: rant: they are working on the water mains AGAIN which means parking the van 2 blocks away and intermittently not having water.
Concerns/Questions: Not really any
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes?
My preference is to make them but we thrift most things. Our local church has a big freecycle twice a year that we get a lot of stuff from, including a lot of the fabrics I end up using to sew stuff.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DS-2
How are your other kids doing this week?
He's great. He loves being outside right now, and at dinner time he is done with his "kid" plates/bowls and wants to eat out of the same dishes as us. Growing up fast!
Rants/Raves: daycare started serving him juice w/breakfast and lunch. we specifically said we did not want him to have it. They said in the cya email response i got that they were having trouble getting milk...you need to inform parents of this type of change.
Concerns/Questions:
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Primary, hanna for pjs, Gap

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? One DS 4.5
How are your other kids doing this week? He's doing well! He loves his school (same place he's been since he was 1) and keeps asking "Is it October yet?" mainly because he can't wait until Halloween (CANDY)
Rants/Raves: I am NOT looking forward to infant childcare prices and I am pretty sure they took away the part-time option at the daycare we use so you HAVE to do full-time for infants. Seems unfair especially since infant is the most expensive.
Concerns/Questions: natm
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Target and Walmart. He's growing like crazy right now so his pants don't fit from last year and he's like in-between the biggest toddler size 5T and the little boy sizing. Some of the 5T stuff works (mostly shirts), but some of the smallest little boy stuff is too small or too huge. It's all so confusing!
@aloha_mama DH and I were looking at property in a small town in the mountains. It was over an hour away from the closest school so we discussed HS. And I decided absolutely not. But now that I have a little I think I could do it and your comments make me want to do it lol. That sounds like a lifestyle I could move towards especially with our goal of work lifestyle.
@aloha_mama@miss_lynn9 Yes, that lifestyle and flexibility is what is so appealing to me too! We also live in a district with pretty bad schools unless we pay a crazy amount of money for private school, but we absolutely love where we live otherwise, so that’s what made me consider it in the first place. We have so many years still to decide, but I always love asking people for their insight who have experienced it!
@kiwi2628 Forest school sounds so awesome! The preschool we chose has tons of outdoor space and a nature lab. I grew up in NY where it’s freezing several months a year so I love that my kids get to be outside all year round in California!
@aloha_mama wow that sounds like a tough school situation. I am very similar in that I don’t think I would have the patience for homeschooling. Even virtual school last year was super hard for us! My oldest DD has also been the absolute best helping me out when I’m feeling like garbage every day. She doesn’t know yet either, but has still been so considerate. Last night when I made the crock meal outside she said “mom, I think you might have covid since all the smells are bothering you” 🤣. We are super lucky to have awesome daughters!
@minnie_yoga_mama We love the flexibility and also the closeness with the children. Those opportunities to explore interests they'd never have time for in public school. Even quite frankly my kids have more time to take better care of themselves than they would if they were in school outside the home. Better sleep, better self care, more exercise....so many benefits.
Sorry for the data dump, all - trying to catch up from being on vacation for a week!
@aloha_mama homeschooling is not for the faint of heart! Kudos to you! PS love your HP gifs. @doxiemoxie212 that is how we referred to them in my previous BMB. I'm for it, for the same reason! @queenklau That waiting period for the first US, especially after loss, feels like forever! I hope the time passes quickly and your scan goes well. @kiwi2628 How do you feel Primary's sizing runs? I've heard their pieces can go long and thin, but haven't ended up ordering anything yet. @miss_lynn9 hugs to you - teething is tough on the whole family! Hopefully you've found things that help. Your walks sound amazing, even if they have gotten a bit shorter! @monstera13 So glad your DS is handling all of that change well! He must feel happy and confident at home I bet you're rocking the work-parenting balance, even if it might not always feel like it! @Blondesweety444 it's hard to keep kids still long enough to read to if they aren't super interested! You're doing great. I bet he'll love being a big brother! @Eags LOVE your kids' excitement about the new baby! That is so sweet. @Boobopgirl You have a lot on your plate! Are you finding things so far that motivate/encourage your kids to eat? @Avrilmai You are a brave soul. My DS also wants adult dishes and utensils now, but I've been resisting. I'm surprised day care does juice twice a day! That seems like a lot? @shlecks Does your DS have a costume picked out already, or know what he wants to be? Has he been trick-or-treating before? That will be such a fun holiday with him!
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? One DS, just turned 2.
How are your other kids doing this week? Good! Struggling with some allergies, but otherwise great. He likes to lift up my shirt and hug my tummy and talk to "baby sister". We do not know the gender yet, but he always refers to baby as "sister" and says, "Nooooo" when we ask, "what about a brother?" So we shall see if he is going to be disappointed or not
Rants/Raves: I am starving all the time but then when I go to eat, I can't hardly eat anything.
Concerns/Questions: None right now.
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? H&M and Zara for toddler clothes, H&M, Target and Old Navy for newborn/baby clothes.
@aukeev He said Darth Vader early on, then this past weekend we got a ninja costume at Costco that he loves and looks great on him. But I'm gonna wait until October when we can find a Spirit Halloween or something that he can look at to see if he wants anything different. I'm fine with whatever he wants because we keep costumes on hand all the time for dress up. He has been trick or treating twice! It was normal (pre-covid) the Halloween he was 2, though he was still pretty young so we only went to a handful of our neighbors houses, and then last year we went with his cousins in Alabama. He loves allll the candy.
@aukeev it's tough because they are so young and don't like the same things from one day to the next. Waffles seem to usually work. And we do chocolate milk and they have to take a bite of something to get a sip of chocolate milk. I've had to basically force feed both of them different times though which is always a 💩 experience.
@aloha_mama You’re doing a great job and it’s ok to need downtime First tri is such an energy suck. @miss_lynn9 Ugh! Teething is so terrible. I hope those teeth pop out soon and relief is on the way.
@doxiemoxie212 I’m down for the abbreviation! @Avrilmai Twice a day juice? I am not a sugar prude but that seems like a lot to be getting just from school.
@aukeev Avrilmai will know better than me but you know how thiiiccc my baby is and we had to send his primary stuff back (we tried it when he was maybe 5-6 months? I have a cute pic of him somewhere stuffed like a sausage into some PJs but meanwhile the legs and arms were way too long). But my niece wears a lot of it, she’s tall but on the skinny side.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? I have one son who is 2 DS2
How are your other kids doing this week? He’s having a great week. I am staying home with him and signed us up for a weekly play group at our children’s museum. He was so shy the first time but this is week 3 and he’s starting to get a lot more comfortable and excited to see other kids. Tonight DS2 was so sweet with our older dog (who is obsessed with him) - he wanted him to come up to bed with him and come in his room (something he literally screamed about last week, toddlers, amirite). He showed the dog books and his favorite stuffed animals. It was truly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
Rants/Raves: DS2 loved the sensory bin (oatmeal and Apple Jacks) at playgym yesterday so much I made a bin of oatmeal today and we sat out on the deck a lot of the morning and afternoon and he just poured dry oatmeal in and out of various cups. It was a beautiful day outside. He did eventually start getting it all over the deck and then poured oatmeal on the dog. I swept a lot of it but it will be interesting to see how the deck fares next time it rains!
Concerns/Questions: Natm
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? I hit up the occasional second hand sale (we have some big ones around us a couple times a year) when I can but when I order stuff it’s mostly from H&M, Gap and I have certain pajamas I buy on Amazon that fit him well. DS2 is and always has been really big for his age (he’s a bit over 38 pounds and JUST turned 2) so he’s already in size 3T-4T and needs clothes that run wide. I just put in an order for a bunch of fall/winter staples from H&M.
@zamoraspin2 I forgot y'all tried Primary with your little guy! My DS2 is on the very short end of average and has some chunk, so I've been hesitant to try them. Going to look back for those pictures now lol. I love that he was into your dog tonight! That is so sweet. Also, I'm going to need to see the pieces you chose from H&M. He's always dressed so cute!
@aukeev I would say Primary is on the slimmer side, but DS is small. he's 2 now and still in 12m shorts. (primary and other brands) He's in 12-18 shirts.
@kiwi2628 that forest school sounds really interesting. what do they do in the winter?
Thanks y'all I'm glad to know I wasn't over reacting on the juice with two meals. Amazingly they were back to serving milk yesterday.

@Ivorytower2 we live in Ct and the kids are outside all winter with school!
@aukeev primary does run long and lean- both my kids are so I love it
@Avrilmai they bundle up. The goal is to have the kids outside for the whole 3 hours every day, so we are required to have wool pants, multiple changes of gloves, certain types of coats etc.. they do go inside on days less than 35 degrees for some of the time but otherwise it’s being outside and bundled.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? Two, my son is almost 3 (October) and my daughter is 16 months
How are your other kids doing this week? Pretty good... they are being super affectionate to each other, which melts my heart
Rants/Raves: DD1.5 is starting to only wake up once per night to nurse (yay!), but now I'm far enough along in my pregnancy that I'm waking up multiple times to pee. I haven't had a solid night's sleep since early 2018, and it looks like it's going to be a while longer
Concerns/Questions:
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Facebook marketplace/mom swap groups... I haven't bought much for new clothes for either of them, except the odd thing I couldn't resist. There is so much out there, such good quality and so cheap. I got all of their current sizes, for both kids, for $75 total (plus there's a bunch that just isn't my style that I'm going to resell/donate).
@kiwi2628 we do all year round outdoor ed here in VT too. Unless it's below zero here, kids are outside. I think it's below 10 at DS3 daycare but they go out as much as possible.
@shlecks infant care is sooo expensive. I hope you can find good part time somewhere that works!
@Avrilmai double juice seems like a lot when they didn't tell you! If you have juice at home and didn't know that's a lot of sugar!
@Boobopgirl glad school is going well! Three in soccer...that's a crazy schedule! Hope they're loving it!
@monstera13 that guilt for only seeing my kids an hour is there for me as well. I'm a teacher, so I go spend 35 hours a week raising other people's kids while someone else raises mine for 35. I believe in public school and the idea of having a village of adult humans as role models for them but...sometimes its hard.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 2, DS6 and DS3.
How are your other kids doing this week? DS6's teacher has asked for a conference to work on a plan that will help with some impulse issues he has. I appreciate that she's keeping an eye out this early and getting on the ball but at the same time I'm like, it's day 10! Do we really need to put him on a plan? DS3 seems to be coming out of a "everything sucks I will cry over all things and whine" phase, which is lovely. The whining has been a bit much, lol.
Rants/Raves: someone recommended me for a committee at school at the SU level and I don't know who it was but it makes me happy that a coworker thought I'd be good for it! Rant: I generally love my principal but she did a really in depth, detailed announcement about the events of 9/11 and I was shocked, since I work at a k-8 school and this isn't something she does usually, so it was a surprise for us all. The kids all seem fine but I'm not a classroom teacher so I don't know how that went for everyone.
Concerns/Questions: natm
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? I usually just do gap and target, sometimes kohls if there's a sale. I might try Primary of it fits slim- a huge issue I have with my kids is their small waist but long legs- they could both size up in length but in waist they would swim!
@Avrilmai I’d be annoyed about juice, too. We work hard to limit sugar for DD2. Also, milk is still really important for toddlers.
@doula-mama the sleep deprivation is real! I’m hoping you get some good nights in before birth. Maybe your H can bring in a pumped bottle of milk every once in a while?
@SmashJam I’m all for even young kids being truthfully informed about tough subjects at a level they can understand, but I’d think that would be better in a small setting where the teachers can keep an eye on how everyone is doing. 🤔 also, k-8 is a big range of ages to receive the same announcement.
How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DD2
How are your other kids doing this week? We’ve been potty training DD2 the last 6 weeks, but diapers for nap and bedtime. She would wait to poop in her diaper, despite our clever attempts at coercion. 🤣💩 This last week, she made the leap to pooping in the toilet and she loves it! Cleanup is so much easier. The only bribe she needs is for us to sing the Potty Dance song, which now auto plays in my head every night when I’m trying to fall asleep.
Rants/Raves: rant - H is driving me up the wall. A bunch of little things, but here’s one. He got hummus out of the fridge to snack on real quick, and he left the fridge OPEN while he wolfed it down standing at the counter. Then he put it back in the fridge. I’m like, c’mon, sit down and snack like a civilized human being, and while you’re at it, close the fridge. rave - I don’t express my endless impatience with H most of the time because he’s holding our whole house together, and I love him for it. Yesterday he tidied the whole house to get ready for the cleaners today. I feel almost human in our very clean house.
Concerns/Questions: natm
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes? Hand me downs, second hand stores, and very occasional gifts. Amazon if I need something very specific. DD2’s school is very into messy play (mud, paint, water), so there’s no point in getting nice clothes.
@loveanddatadriven same, I agree if there's a teaching moment or specific question asked. Our kiddo asked about something recently that led to us telling him all about 9/11. But I do think teachers should have a heads up, and maybe choose their own way to do it, if at all. At one point she said that "al Qaeda terrorists flew planes into the building, killing thousands, and making us question our safety." It was intense. I wonder a little about the value of that knowledge and what kids k-7 can get from it in a school setting. I think 8 and up 9/11 and the previous and subsequent time in Afghanistan is a very interesting topic filled with great learning moments.

How are your other kids doing this week?

Primary
How are your other kids doing this week?
Rants/Raves:
DS5 is so excited!
DS is 8 and DD is 3
How are your other kids doing this week?
Rants/Raves:
I hate that I feel so bad and am not playing with them like normal. But between nausea and tiredness I just can’t function.
Concerns/Questions: none
GTYK: What’s your go-to for children’s clothes?
Born via emergency c-section - 8lb, 19.75 in, 100% stubborn BFP Chart

How are your other kids doing this week?
Rants/Raves: daycare started serving him juice w/breakfast and lunch. we specifically said we did not want him to have it. They said in the cya email response i got that they were having trouble getting milk...you need to inform parents of this type of change.

We love the flexibility and also the closeness with the children. Those opportunities to explore interests they'd never have time for in public school. Even quite frankly my kids have more time to take better care of themselves than they would if they were in school outside the home. Better sleep, better self care, more exercise....so many benefits.
He must feel happy and confident at home
@miss_lynn9 Ugh! Teething is so terrible. I hope those teeth pop out soon and relief is on the way.
@Avrilmai Twice a day juice? I am not a sugar prude but that seems like a lot to be getting just from school.
@kiwi2628 that forest school sounds really interesting. what do they do in the winter?
Thanks y'all I'm glad to know I wasn't over reacting on the juice with two meals. Amazingly they were back to serving milk yesterday.

"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks,

@aukeev primary does run long and lean- both my kids are so I love it
@Avrilmai they bundle up. The goal is to have the kids outside for the whole 3 hours every day, so we are required to have wool pants, multiple changes of gloves, certain types of coats etc.. they do go inside on days less than 35 degrees for some of the time but otherwise it’s being outside and bundled.
