GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!)

Ages of other child(ren)? 5 & 3- both boys.

Any thoughts about this cycle? I’m on a medication that I shouldn’t conceive while on but I should end it a day or two before ovulation. The nurse on the other end of the line said as long as I’m not taking it when I conceive it’s fine to try and that we don’t have to wait any amount of time after stopping it to try. That makes me kind of conflicted about this cycle mostly because she’s like “this is all the doctor said” and basically left it up to me.

Rant/Rave? My oldest goes to kindergarten this year and I CANT STOP CRYING!!! I’m a sahm and he’s been with me since day one. I didn’t send him to pre-k last year because it would have just been for socialization and with covid that part wasn’t happening anyways. He’s so excited and I’m excited for him, and also excited to have more one on one time with my youngest. But I’ve also already googled homeschooling and what I have to do. Lol. Like equal parts excited and terribly sad. But, his teacher is amazing and I personally know his aid, so I am comfortable enough sending him. I just don’t understand where the time has gone! The phrase “the days are long but the years are short” could not be more true.

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!)

We don’t have a list or anything because we’ve gotten a lot in this summer, but we have one more “camping” thing planned for this weekend. Summer things aside I’m just trying to soak in these last few days at home while my baby is still home with me. 😭😭

Rant/Rave? My little guy is really pushing boundaries and limits these past few weeks and holy cow it's been a lot. I know he is just learning, but it's so hard to not loose my sh*t all the time. He starts preschool on his birth (going right at 3 to get speech services) and I am hoping that it will help with routine and structure. 

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!) We have a local renaissance fair that I always look forward to. This will be the first time bringing little man and I hope he loves it!

@tessiesmom26 yeah toddlers. My guy just turned 3 in July and he is such a sour patch. I wish I could say it gets easier and my 5yo is an angel- but it’s the opposite. I hope the preschool gives him some structure, but that it can also be an outlet for him to use some energy and some time for you to breathe. Solidarity mama! As for the Renaissance festival, I bet your boy loves it! We took ours to one in July and they had an absolute blast and are still talking about it over a month later!! Don’t forget to get a picture of him with a giant turkey leg! 😍

@paytonpedro I hope your little LOVES kindergarten. My oldest did kindergarten last year in the thick of the covid with desks six feet apart and shields up and some kids on Zoom and nobody being able to touch the same things, and he did great and made such good friends. This year he's excited it's just masks. I hope your little loves kindergarten!!

@tessiesmom26 Yes Ren Fair! Our nearby one is in the summer and we took the kids and had so much fun. My oldest remembered it from two years ago and we were really glad to be back after missing last year.

Any thoughts about this cycle? Timing is good and I'm feeling that different-than-normal breast soreness, so I'm optimistic!

Rant/Rave? Finally, finally a thread where I can Rave about DS's school and how happy I am he's going back there on Wednesday! And that it has a preschool attached and #2 can go there starting Thursday. I love, love this school. Everything about it is amazing, right down to covid safety. My kids are going to have a great year. 

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!) We had a pretty big list at the beginning of the summer and actually did all the things. So all we really want to do this weekend is hit the pool one more time because it closes after labor day.

@paytonpedro I saw your comment about being emotional in the dailies last week and I was thinking you probably had a new kindergartener - it’s what made me realize we haven’t had this thread in like a month or more. Sending big hugs to you! I’m already emotional thinking about DD going to school and I still have 2 years to go. Time is flying! But I also think that even if we had more time, it would never feel like enough!

@wisewitch222 it makes me incredibly sad that this is our children’s kindergarten experience compared to ours. But they seem pretty resilient and not too bothered by it so I’m just trying to be excited for his excitement! I’ll be the mom at drop off the first day with big sunglasses to hide my uncontrollable sobbing!!
your ds’s school sounds fabulous and very similar to our school! My tiny human has another year until pre-k but it will be very convenient that they’re in the same place! 

@bows22 yep you were completely right! ❤️ We had orientation on Wednesday and I was able to hold it in through leaving him in his classroom(only for an hour) until a friend with a fellow kindergartener walked up to me and asked “is this you’re first?” (Fully knowing obviously lol) but I just started bawling and I was like “I need a hug!”  Lol. It seriously goes by too fast. Quickest 5 years of my life right here. There is never enough time.

Rant/Rave? I had bad hyperemesis gravidarum  (HG) with my son. And the emotional and mental ptsd was so strong it derailed all our plans for a second kid. It’s taken until now for me to not only not be afraid anymore but now that we’ve actually started TTC, I’m itching for another one. Never thought I would feel this again. For 3 years, the thought of being pregnant terrified me to the point of panic. And of course at the same time I have watched every year go by with the age difference getting more and more  but oh well, can’t go back in time now. At least being 5, my son will be able to understand what it means that mom is very sick and that’s why she keeps vomiting and needing to go to the hospital. I can’t imagine going through HG with a toddler.

We just got home from 2 weeks vacation at my in-laws family lake cabin in Vermont. And it feels like we did all the summer fun there. So I’m good to start fall. Of course, weather and temps at home, summer is still raging. I can’t with the heat anymore. There’s a renaissance fair we also go to every summer/fall but with COVID, i think we’re gonna skip it. I know it’s going to be packed since last year it was cancelled.

@paytonpedro my son is 5 but we decided to do another year of pre-K for various reasons. And I’m happy it’s not K because I am NOT ready for that emotional milestone yet. Hahaha. I don’t know where 5yrs have gone!! 

@tessiesmom26 toddlers. Omg. Yes. I hear you momma! This too shall pass. But you know how it goes, every stage throws something new at us. But toddlers. It’s the hardest so far IMO. 

@wisewitch222 yes I am so happy to to have a place to talk about our kids. I worry so much about being insensitive to other members here. We all have different struggles. That school sounds amazing! I love my son’s school too and after 1.5yrs of him being EVERYWHERE, I am ready to drop him off and have time to myself.

@hgsurvivor I'm sorry about your hyperemesis. I hope it isn't as bad for you this time around. And yeah, I also don't want to be insensitive, and I don't *need* to talk about my kids, but whenever I see the Rant/Rave prompt about 80% of the time I want to Rave about something school-related and I have to be like, no, not that one, go down the list.

@paytonpedro 😭 kids grow up so fast, don't they! I'm kinda glad DD has a later birthday, so she's going to miss the cut off, and will be almost 6 when she starts kinder. Although that's an extra year of daycare I have to pay for...🙈

@tessiesmom26 omg the boundary pushing is out of control in my house as well. And I have also have to try not to lose my sh*t over all her flip flopping...One week she wants to do everything herself, and the next it's "I want mommy to do it". 🙄 

@hgsurvivor @wisewitch222 that's why my R/Rs are very "meh" sometimes, like "it's hot outside" 😂 everything I can think of is toddler related so I have to find something else. Or they're too personal and I try to keep things a little vague on here 👀

Rant/Rave?  Found DD squatting over the dog's water bowl and drinking it like a dog over the weekend, so yeah, we're peak toddler over here. 

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!).   Hmmmm I don't know that we ever stop doing "summer" things because it's still hot AF where I live until October, so pool days are very much a part of our weekends still 😂 DH and I are talking about another vacation in late September because we have so much vacation to burn, but last year when we did that, a cold front came through and it was only in the low 80s tops so the pool was a little chilly. Although DD didn't care at all 😂

Ages of other child(ren)? 4.5 yo boy. VERY important that you throw in that point five or he will put you in your place haha. 

Any thoughts about this cycle? This is our second cycle of officially trying and it is weird and a lot of pressure. DS was conceived by surprise, while I was on BC, one our engagement night - talk about the universe saying "you're on the right path here folks!". Because he was a surprise, we are new to everything that it entails. Also, we delayed having another because we needed to buy a house and get married first and now the age gap is larger than I wanted and that adds more stress for me. AHH, in summary 😂

Any questions? How did I not know these threads existed?! I've been less vocal in the other dailies not wanting to mention other kids, and now I feel free haha!

Rant/Rave? Our preschooler is going through ALL of it right now. He is always right, he's faking injuries, his internal clock is causing him to fall asleep later than usual, and he is moved on from needing me for everything to needing dad for everything and my little mama heart is breaking! 

However I will rave about his preschool and how wonderful they are. They are part of the hospital that my husband works at and DS is just thriving there! He is also stoked on starting soccer this week. 

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!) My in-laws have a great lake house that they have owned for probably 15 years or so. They let us all know that this is the last year and they are selling 😭. So we are trying to get there as many weekends as we can before the end of the season. We moved after lake season last year and we went from a 20 min drive to a 2 hour drive, so it is a lot harder now.

Also, I bought a giant ass swing set at the end of May and I have yet to assemble it fully - need to get that done before it snows....

It took me a while to figure out what this thread stood for 😂  - it's so lovely to hear about your littles! And to know I'm not alone in the toddler struggles.

Any thoughts about this cycle? My midwife said it was ok to go ahead and try after last cycles CP so we went for it. Our timing was good. Im doing my best to be patient with myself.

Rant/Rave? Rant: I have no daycare and am relying on grandma/Nana care (which I'm grateful for) and our schedule is not consistent and it sucks. Rave: I work in theatre and found out I got a grant I applied for which means I get to expand a program I just became in charge of!

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!) We are hoping to fit one last camping trip in late September, and we have a vacation planned to the coast which I'm looking forward to.

@pajamstagrams hahaha the dog water. One day, when my son was 3ish, I heard silence and found him sitting in the cat tree, looking out the window, snacking on cat food. He had the cats bowl in his lap and quietly just watching the world go by. When I came in the cat looked at me like “are you gonna do something about this?!?” 😂 

@wisewitch222 are these dailies or just weekly. Back when We were TTC for my son, I was on this board a lot. But obviously I don’t remember this type of thread, I may have also not been paying attention lol. 

@jellie603 I agree that it can feel weird to be like “ok it’s today! Let’s go!” I’m also just starting second cycle TCC and last time, it was midnight, and we had just driven 10 hrs to our vacation, but I sleepily was like “honey I’m ovulating right now. It may already be too late.” The least sexy time ever. 🤣 
sorry they’re selling the lake house! My in-laws have a lake house too and I know we would be devastated if it got sold.

Rant/Rave? My DD is funny and sweet a lot of the time, but when she gets upset and loses control lately it is absolutely bonkers. Woah. It’s definitely hard for me to know how to react and to not let myself get sucked in.

 

GTKY: What are the last “summer” things you want to do before Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer!) Hoping to go swimming one more time this weekend! I feel like with the upheaval in our lives the last few weeks that the end of summer has snuck up on me. Maybe I’ll get a few other good ideas for this weekend from y’all.

@tessiesmom26 The structure of school can be so good! I think my DD has benefitted a lot from that aspect of preschool. Also, I will echo your thoughts on this cycle.

@wisewitch222 I hope your optimism pays off this cycle! And so awesome about a great school to send your kiddos to.

@hgsurvivor I was sick in a different way during my last pregnancy (gallbladder), but it also scarred me to some extent and made the thought of being pregnant again daunting. So glad to hear you’re excited now!

@pajamstagrams I know it’s less funny in the moment, but lol to your toddler moment!

@jellie603 The worry over the age gap is a real and frustrating emotion. Hang in there!

@hgsurvivor I feel like when I was TTC #2 in 2017 people just mentioned their other other kids in the dailies all the time, so this must have been a more recent change

@hgsurvivor I’m so sorry you had to deal with that and I could definitely see how it could cause panic but I’m excited for you that you’re ready and really wanting another baby! 

You dog water story is hilarious and reminds me of when my first was potty training and I found him peeing in the dog water bowl. 😅🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Toddlers are so much fun. 
lol at low 80’s being a cold front for you. That’s like hot summer here. Haha. I’m excited because it’s supposed to be in the mid 70’s coming up here soon and we’ll finally be out of the devils buttcrack heatwave we’ve been having. Hah. But I hope you can slip in another vacation soon! Can you roll your vacation time over to next year?

@jellie603 my 5.5 is super sassy like your guy too. Now he’s rolling his eyes at me and talking back. Meh. I hear you on the tracking cycles. Our first I did a crappy job and trusted an app that stressed me out and was totally wrong. Our second I didn’t want to be stressed out so we just hio eod and got pregnant the first cycle. Since then I started tracking for nfp and got really good at it!! So long as you’re pretty normal and figure out when you’re actually ovulating, I think that’s half the battle. But I think I can speak for everyone when I say we’re all here if you have any questions!!

@abjm0325 I’m so type A that I need explicit instruction so yeah. I still don’t know what my plan is. I’m considering calling again but I don’t really wanna be that person. I feel like I’m in limbo. TW***  I hear you on the end of summer sneaking up on you. I feel like I lost all of July with my recent mc. I hope you’re able to take this time to heal- both physically and emotionally, and feel everything that you need to. ❤️ I feel the same way you do when my children are having a hard time. Sometimes it’s hard not to react but I always try to remember I have to be their calm. It doesn’t always work and I fail a lot, but I try.

@jellie603 @pajamstagrams I can relate. My 20 month old is on a weeks long streak of dada only stories at bedtime. Tonight he played a new move when we asked who should read by going "mama....pfft dada!" Lol.

@pajamstagrams & @jandawg it is breaking my little mama heart over here! He always asked for me for EVERYTHING because I did all the kid things - daycare drop off, doctors, bedtime etc etc but now that his preschool is at the hospital where my husband works, he does drop off. And since then it has been a very obvious shift in preference haha. Hope you guys can steal some kiddo snuggles whenever you can! Bribe them if needed 😂

@paytonpedro omg eye rolling - I'm sure it is wicked exaggerated too! Mine has started sticking out his tongue with that "pfft" noise and I'm about to rocket him to the moon haha! And thank you, I appreciate it! I will probably be asking questions that seem so obvious but I'm going in blind here...

@jellie603 oh we just tell her that daddy needs to go feed the dog so she's stuck with mommy cuddles...and I'm not upset that she only wants daddy to take her on the bike in the afternoons after work when it feels like 108 outside. 😂 So it mostly works out in the end.

@paytonpedro Don’t feel bad calling again if you want clarification! It is important for you to feel informed to make the decision that is right for you. *TW* I hate that the MCs rob us of so much (time, joy, peace). I hope that fall is a better season for both of us!

@abjm0325 I think that’s the worst part honestly. It was my second in a row and we full stopped ttc last time so I’m at least glad that ttc is still on the table (with mh) but idk if I’m more nervous about not getting pregnant or actually getting (and staying) pregnant.  Definitely hopping fall is better for both (all) of us as well!!!
