  • How far along are you//EDD: 19+3 // January 15

Size of the baby: Size of a mango, or a pint of ice cream!

Upcoming appointments: Next Tuesday, 8/31 for anatomy scan!

How are you feeling?: Big and uncomfortable. I have this heaviness/pressure in my belly button + lower abdomen which I really feel when I move around, roll over...it's making me nervous but apparently it's normal. I think I felt the baby a few days ago but otherwise I don't think I feel anything - unless I'm missing it. Sometimes I get small "rolling" sensations but I don't know if it's gas or not!

Rants/Raves: I have to go into my office early Thursday morning to get a Covid test (which are required weekly for anyone coming back). I'm fine with it and know it's in place to protect us, but I just don't want to have to schlep there just for that. I'm going to get Starbucks out of it, though, and I haven't had it in legitimately a year.

Questions: Anyone else thinking about their birth plan? I'm hitting the "oh sh-t, I actually have to give birth" part of pregnancy.

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? I love the crisper weather and the leaves changing and the start of the holiday season. I DO NOT like pumpkin spice or gingerbread, though (don't @ me!). And of course, one season closer to baby! <3

  • How far along are you//EDD: 20 +4 Jan 7

Size of the baby: the size of a microphone or a banana

Upcoming appointments:  Anatomy scan tomorrow. DH says I can find out the gender as long as I don't tell him. Gonna be super hard.

How are you feeling?: Huge. Crampy and irritable.

Rants/Raves: so tired of hearing "Don't you know what causes that".

    Questions:  none right now

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall?

Hoodie weather, cooler temperstures, less bugs. Also don't like pumpkin anything.

  • How far along are you//EDD: 21w3d/ New Year’s Day

Size of the baby: an endive I think?

Upcoming appointments:  9/2 Reg OB check-in, and 9/3 baby echo with MFM

How are you feeling?: Pretty good. Only some pubic bone pain. I’m seeing my family and in-laws this weekend when we travel up to OH from VA for my sisters bridal shower. We’re telling everyone we’re having a baby when we see them. Finally! So I’m feeling excited about that.

Rants/Raves: I’m sick and tired of having to wonder if I’m going to get Covid when I travel. I’m SO excited the weather is starting to turn. I love fall!

Questions: birth plan is definitely a question for me too! I have no idea what options are so I started listening to some podcasts and looking forward to the class I signed up for in September.

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? PSL. I’m not usually a crazy about all things pumpkin person, but I am so ready for fall and have been craving pumpkin and cinnamon apple everything! I’m def getting a PSL today.

  • How far along are you//EDD: 17 weeks 6 days/ 1/26/22

    Size of the baby: Pomegranate

    Upcoming appointments:  9/9/21 Anatomy Scan

How are you feeling?: Feeling kind of bloated but overall good.  Still can't shake being tired all the time.

Rants/Raves: I don't currently have any rants but will rave about my 15 yr old.  She just got her first job did it all on her own (just weekends) so proud of her.

Questions:  I have no questions.  To the birth plan question I don't have one and will not have one.  My heart is not set on a particular kind of birth because I'm one of those people that when the plan doesn't happen as planned I freak out.  So I'm doing the same thing as I did with my son registering at the hospital and showing up when I go into labor.  I hope I can vaginally deliver again and don't need a c-section for some reason I'm deathly afraid of that happening to me.

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall?  I don't like pumpkin flavored thinks but love carving pumpkins with the kids and making pumpkin seeds.  I'm excited for all the Thanksgiving food and the cooler whether so I can get my power walks in again.

  • @fifilala516 I remember once making a similar comment as you did about not knowing whether I was feeling the baby or not, and my OB looked at my husband and was like, "Do you feel rolling sensations in your abdomen? No? It's the baby!" Lol. I have not really thought about a birth plan and, honestly, probably won't really put too much energy into a plan (besides knowing my general preferences, etc.). My hospital, though, already does a lot of the things I would ask for as their general protocol. Are there specific things you want for your birth?

@katepattsea What podcasts are you listening to? I sometimes enjoy The Birthful Podcast with Adriana Lozada, though she sometimes gets a little to "woo" for me, lol.

    How far along are you//EDD: 17+6/Jan 26

    Size of the baby: Artichoke

    Upcoming appointments:  Not for awhile!

How are you feeling?: Pretty good overall, though still extremely tired (doesn't help that I keep waking up in the middle of the night!)

    Rants/Raves:
Rave: My oldest started preschool this week! I was more emotional about it than I expected, but he is having so much fun and I'm so excited for him. Rant: I now have to stop at two locations to drop kids off before going to work and it is a tad stressful.

Questions:  So because of the above rant, I'm realizing H and I need to invest in some more convertible car seats so we can split drop-off/pick-up responsibilities. Anyone have any recommendations for good cheap car seats? I don't need anything super fancy, just safe and functional!

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? Apple picking and eating fresh apple cider donuts!

  • How far along are you//EDD: 18w1d Jan 24

Size of the baby: artichoke, fist is the size of an m&m

Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan in two weeks

How are you feeling?: pretty good, but sleep hasn’t been great the past few nights. It’s been harder to stay comfortable. I bought this super silly inflatable raft looking thing so that I can sleep on my stomach, might try it out tonight.

Rants/Raves: no rants, rave is H has been so awesome and patient with me while I’ve been pretty lazy and much less helpful around the house. I haven’t cooked dinner (aside from heating up frozen dinners) since BFP.

Questions: none. RE birthing plan: my only birthing plan is to get the epidural, the first time I did centering classes and had grand ideas about how natural birthing was going to go - it went nothing like that and the epidural was amazing.

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? I like pumpkin flavor but gingerbread is my favorite. I love the crisp weather, wearing cozy clothes and football.

@felix08 I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I still don’t think I want an unmedicated birth if I had the choice to get an epidural. I had spinal surgery when I was 2 so my mom is concerned about me getting one but that was almost 30 years ago and knock wood, I haven’t had any problems since.

I like to be in control and have a plan but I know this is something you can’t predict. Right now my mantra is that I will do whatever I have to do to keep myself and baby safe. I intend on taking some birthing classes though.
  • How far along are you/EDD:  18 weeks and 5 days. January 20!

    Size of the baby: Postcard

Upcoming Appointments:  Anatomy scan this Friday!!! It’s a littler earlier than most but I can’t wait!

How are you feeling?  Still tired and the heartburn is bad.  But otherwise fine.

Rants/Raves:  I’m in week 2 of the new job so my rant is no major but it’s an adjustment getting used to the 9-5 life again.  But my rave is my boss seems fantastic and everyone I’ve met has been great so I’m liking it so far!  My team is all women so that’s nice too!

Questions:  I guess I’m curious about birth plans.  I’m similar to what others have said.  I def want an epidural but otherwise just plan to show up and go along with what the doctors say.

GTKY:  Fall means Football!!!! 🏈 I’m a HUGE college football fan (Go Gators 🐊!) and enjoy pro as well (although me end my husbands pro teams always suck) but can’t wait for it to return.  There’s a big Gator viewing club in the Bay Area so I love going to watch the games at the bar!
  • @felix08 the podcast I started listening to is titled All About Pregnancy and Birth with Dr. Nicole Rankins. I just finished listening to her 100th episode which is called 5 Steps You Need to Know to Have a Beautiful Birth. I recommend that episode first since it gives you an outline of five things to educate yourself on to feel empowered and knowledgeable heading into labor. She’s an obgyn herself and tells you not only what information you should read up on, but where to find that information as well. Overall, her advice is to empower yourself with knowledge.
  • @fifilala516 MH and I took a birth class last time, it was good for super basics.  I've started following mommy.labornurse on instagram.  I was nervous for my first and read as many birth stories i could get my hands on just to know different situations. Helped me understand different options.

@AshleyGemini24 that's a really annoying question.  My answer to that would be yes, and then i'd explain all the science and procedures for IVF.

@katepattsea thanks for the reminder--i need to get my echo scheduled with the MFM!

    @lizzie_30 congrats to your daughter!!

@felix08 We got the cosco scenera for travel, cosco seems to have the cheaper (but still tested and safe) car seats so maybe look at that brand?  the scenera only goes up to 40lbs so it's not a long-lasting seat.  we got a second convertabile Graco from Costco and it was only $150 (don't see it available anymore).  Totally worth it to have a seat in each of our cars.

@elksamm OMG yes, the epidural was AMAZING.

@karenmarie9 so excited for your new job!! Glad it's going well so far.

    How far along are you//EDD: 17+4 // January 29th

Size of the baby:  an orange

Upcoming appointments:  anatomy on next Tuesday!

How are you feeling?: Still more tired than I wish, also have a lack of motivation still. Just feeling like a sloth.  Need to get my "life" in gear.  I feel like I'm just going day to day.

Rants/Raves: My parents were in town over the weekend--they were amazing, super helpful and even did our laundry and dishes.

Questions:  Back to struggling with meal planning.  Thinking about doing a meal program again.  3+ years ago we did Blue Apron and then Hello Kitchen.  Anyone currently utilizing one?

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? Apple Picking

  • @lizzie_30 I love your non-plan birth plan. This is what I was kind of thinking also but then I got nervous that I should be planning 😬. Reading your words put me at ease a bit! Still might give some podcasts a listen (thanks, @katepattsea !)

How far along are you//EDD: 18w6d (jan 20)

    Size of the baby: artichoke

Upcoming appointments: in about one week! Anatomy, I think.

How are you feeling?: Had some spotting on Sunday which was scary but it seems to have stopped (and it wasnt heavy).  I am experiencing some very occasional waves of nausea. Heartburn last night kept me awake so today I'm exhausted. 😴

Rants/Raves: my ILs got a kid trampoline that they will "hold onto" for us until our baby is big enough to use it. 🙄 This feels like the start of gifts we never asked for...

Questions:  How do you make yourself slow down and relax? We are moving soon and I am so stressed and trying to get everything done, but I also know I should be taking it easy. I guess I've realized that I dont know how take it easy!!

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall?

Cooler weather, the smell of fall, apple season. I like pumpkin but I'm not a superfan. I usually pick pecan pie over pumpkin 😋

I'm also looking forward to moving so I can start nesting 😆

  • @fifilala516 I think it's great to have a birth plan! As long as you aren't dead set on anything--like you mentioned, it's so unpredictable. I probably would have written one for my first, but he was breech at 30 weeks and never even made an attempt to flip.  :D With my second, I did do a VBAC, so I definitely had a lot of questions, but I've found that the hospital we deliver at is pretty easy going and receptive to birth wishes, so I didn't feel the need to be super assertive (and I know this is not always the case). Like you, healthy me and healthy baby was my main concern!

@blackhottamales Ah dang, I didn't realize the seneca's weight limit was so low (definitely won't work for our 4-year-old!). I may have to fork out more cash than I was hoping, haha. But I agree it will be worth it!

@lilyfox Ugggggggggh my in-laws are the WORST with giving huge gifts...it's like the want to buy my kids' affection with the largest pieces of garrish plastic they can find. Good luck to you, haha!
  • How far along are you//EDD: 21 weeks/January 5

    Size of the baby: Endive

Upcoming appointments:  Just had my anatomy scan and regular checkup... details in rants/raves

How are you feeling?: Yeah, gonna add that in the rants/raves too

Rants/Raves: Hoo boy. It's been a stressful 24 hours. I'll put it in a spoiler because it's a loooooong story. (TW: mention of previous loss)

Anatomy scan yesterday went super fast - baby was really cooperative. Then the doctor came in and pushed like hell down to get a better look at the face. After awhile of that, he says he can't see the nasal bone, and that could be an indication of a chromosomal issue. He asks if I had testing done - yeah, I had the embryo tested and I did NIPT, all came back clear. He then sends me to the genetic counselor to talk about next steps. By now, I'm in full panic mode, and of course, we happen to be in the same room I was in last year when I got the worst news of my life that led to a TFMR. Same genetic counselor. Sitting on the same bench waiting for that discussion. I'm sick to my stomach. Anyway, the genetic counselor says that yeah, she would be absolutely shocked that the baby has anything wrong due to my previous tests, but we could get an amnio done. And another scan in two weeks. Ok, yes to the scan - maybe we'll see the nasal bone then? But ugh. Just horrible. So I go home and my husband and I start researching and talking. We have (other than the amnio) the best possible data we could have on this kid, and we have one soft marker for DS - everything else with the baby was perfect. Chances are extremely likely it's just a weird thing. Maybe they just couldn't see the bone. Maybe it's just really small. Her profile is perfect, she does have a nose.... over and over and over. We read a bunch of anecdotal cases from message boards - quite a few people had this situation, and then a few weeks later they saw the bone. Or they never saw it on ultrasound and the baby was born with the bone. The thoughts are just reeling over and over and over...

Anyway, I happened to have a regular checkup scheduled with my OB's office today - wasn't with my main doctor, but a doctor I've seen before. I emailed my doctor yesterday explaining what happened, along with a question: can you actually see the previous ultrasound from the NT scan? Because going through my internet reading, a lot of people got the whole "we can't see the bone" thing during that scan. Did they see my baby's bone during that scan? I don't remember hearing they didn't, and I know they had to be looking for it then, since that scan is all about looking for problems like that. I found those ultrasound pics... I think I can see a bone. Pretty sure I can see a bone. Anyway, my doctor rearranged things to see me today because she had been in contact with the doctor that did the anatomy scan...

Her opinion is that we shouldn't worry. We have the data - two very reliable tests (98% and 99% respectively) that say everything's ok. She said do the scan in a couple weeks, and if they can't see the bone then, only if I think it'll give me peace of mind, do the amnio. Otherwise, the numbers just don't add up - the risk of miscarriage due to amnio - while tiny - are way greater than the chances there's actually something wrong with the baby. I brought the ultrasound pics from both scans, and... she said she's pretty sure the bone is visible in that NT scan. Bottom line - we have the data. Chances are overwhelmingly in our favor that everything is fine. I feel better now... and it's just a matter of repeating that to myself. We have the data.

    Questions:  none

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? Give me all the pumpkin stuff. I'm pretty sure I'll be decorating the house on September 1, haha. I love fall. Not that we get a fall here, really - it's hot through October usually. But I love decorating the house and pretending we live in a place where fall happens. I'm also excited for my youngest son's birthday - he'll be 3 in October, and he said he wants a Halloween party, and that'll make it 3 years in a row he'll have a pumpkin/Halloween party :D but this is a kid whose favorite movie has been Nightmare Before Christmas since he was 1, so it's definitely on brand.

@fifilala516 Oh yeah, birth plans! I think I had one for my first, but it was pretty much limited to who was ok to be in the room and I wanted the epidural. I may have printed the same plan for my second, haha. But honestly, I have no plan. Give me an epidural, hopefully it works (it wore off both times, so much so the second time I basically had an unmedicated delivery, and of course he was the bigger kid, lol), and do what you gotta do to get her out safely. I should probably revisit this topic to see if I'm missing anything, but I don't remember a whole lot of options.

@blackhottamales We've used Gobble for probably 7 years or so now, we really like it. The vast majority of meals have been great, and most of them are pretty easy to make - a lot of the prep work is done. We tried Hello Fresh for a week, and it felt like a lot more work than Gobble, but maybe it was just those particular recipes for that week.

  • @lisa3379 I’m so sorry you had that stress! It sounds like a nightmare, but you’re right - if the NT scan and NIPT were normal then the odds are in your favor. I’m glad you got the reassurance from the doctor and can get another scan for peace of of mind.

Are you able to go back in your portal and see if there are notes made by the doctor from the NT scan? I remember on my report they said a nasal bone was present.

Sending you good, calming vibes xx
  • @fifilala516 That's the frustrating thing - the portal says jack sh*t about the NT scan. And I can't directly email anyone at Stanford to get more info. I could call that genetic counselor to see if she'll look at it for me... it's a serious flaw in their patient portal system. I'll either call her or wait until my doctor checks in with them at Stanford tomorrow.
  • How far along are you//EDD: 18+3 jan23

    Size of the baby: artichoke

    Upcoming appointments:  had OB today

How are you feeling?: SO DAMN LARGE. Like, I think I was this big when I was 7m pregnant with my son. God help me.

Rants/Raves: not a fan of my OB, and we don't really have the luxury of changing doctors here.

I had some severe left sided abdominal pain starting Friday afternoon. I spent all day Saturday and Monday in the hospital. After several urinalysis, blood draws, and ultrasounds, there aren't any answers. Luckily my pain has subsided significantly and baby looks fine.

At my OB appt today, she tried to tell me it was likely round ligament pain/musculoskeletal in nature. I told her no, it wasn't round ligament pain. Not even close.

I swear fumes were coming from my nose when I left and processed what she said.

Round ligament pain doesn't leave you crumpled over and sobbing.

So I have no faith in this woman to deliver my baby, or to take anything I say seriously.

Questions:  any other STMs feel huge? I'm already finding that when eating, I get full quickly.

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall?

Cool weather. Basic b*tch here, but I'm over this heat wave. I want to wear giant hoodies and sweatpants all of the time.

And a toque to hide my bedhead.

  • @Lisa3379 how stressful.
    you've got the data.
I'm sure everything is fine with her.
  • @Lisa3379 - sorry you are going through that stress!  Hopefully another test will soon reassure you what the data is showing.
  • @felix08 we have Safety First all in one's (or something like that). I think they're good to 60 or 65lbs? Not expensive at all. A bit of a pain to do the straps up tight...have to put some muscle into it.
  • @fifilala516 no birth plan here. I didn't have one with my first, just knew my preferences  I'll have to re-educate myself this time around, as so far, I'm not getting any education from my OB.

I really enjoy the Evidence Based Birth podcast. It's hosted by a nurse practitioner(?) and it's all science based. I also like listening to The Birth Hour. They are just Birth stories to by the women themselves. The titles are all descriptive of their actual birth, so you can pick and choose ones that you are interested in. I found it a good way to learn/provoke question that I could then look up the answers to.

I definitely feel less prepared and supported this time around. Lots of time to re-educate and feel empowered, i suppose.
  • @Lisa3379 wow.  Sorry for all the stress.  Glad you're letting the data lead you.  But definitely keep us up to date.

@sarah_is_pregnant oh my goodness, that OB sounds horrible.  can they not listen to their patient? I'm glad the pain is settled.
  • @Lisa3379 Ugh, how stressful! I'm so sorry that your appointment left you with any uncertainty. I agree with others -- you have the data to suggest everything is fine. Try to focus on that and keep calm until your next scan (much easier said than done, of course).

@sarah_is_pregnant Thank you! I literally just put that seat in my virtual shopping cart, so it's great to hear a positive review.

Promising news! Just got a call from the genetic counselor at Stanford. A few of the doctors there looked at my NT scan from 2 months ago like I asked them to, including the doctor that did my anatomy scan the other day. They agreed with me - looks like there's a nasal bone there. They're going to try to squeeze me in either today or early next week for a quick scan because now the theory is the baby was just positioned so that they couldn't get a good look. Oy vey, what a week. Hopefully today works out so I can move on from this quickly.

ETA: Scan confirmed today at noon!!
  • @Lisa3379 - yay for peace of mind coming soon.  Glad you were your own advocate.  That was my experience with Stanford (I used them for fertility treatment) that I really had to be my own advocate and trust my gut.  Will be thinking of you at noon and praying for the best outcome!
  • @lisa3379 Fingers crossed for a great scan! So great that you advocated for yourself and they got you in quickly. Keep us posted!
  • How far along are you//EDD: 19 weeks today, due 1/20

Size of the baby: View Master 😂, aka an heirloom tomato

Upcoming appointments:  one week from tomorrow, 20 week ultrasound

How are you feeling?: Good over all. I’m mostly just starting to feel the emotions of it all. I have a lot of stress and anxiety around family and friends right now. This is my first and I really imagined sharing so much more with people and it’s just not happening. But my hubby and I are stoked so we’ve always got each other to lean on.

Rants/Raves: I almost never feel hungry until it feels like life or death. Like my stomach only has an on/off switch right now. Not gaining a ton but not losing like I was in the first trimester. I also really thought being so behind my peers in starting a family that I’d have more folks to talk to and vent with.

Questions:  Anyone else get nose bleeds daily? For about the last two weeks I get one little one every day. I used to get them A LOT as a kid, so I’m not too worried. But curious if others do too?

GTKY: What are you most looking forward to about fall? Not being so dang hot! And big cozy sweaters 😊

I’m definitely feeling that Oh Sh*t moment!! Haha

but I’m planning on being very loose with a birth plan. I tend to be an over planner so if I start I’ll try to plan every detail and then will just add stress if it doesn’t go exactly as planned. I’m lucky to be happy with my doctors and hospital so I feel pretty confident and trust them.

    What’s your plan?
  • Any podcast recommendations? I have started Pregnancy Podcast but haven’t tried any birth plan episodes.
  • @karenmarie9 same due date! Is this your first? I met my husband in FL, and his BFF went to Florida State, haha so we’re very casually Seminole fans
  • Back from the scan. The ultrasound tech and I did see a flicker of something like a nasal bone, but nothing clear or definitive (or capture-able) to declare the existence. Doctor said that he saw my NT scan at 13 weeks, said that those scans are more detailed than the 20 week scan, and he did see the nasal bone in that image. I think I'm done worrying about it. 🙂 I'll go back in mid-October for another scan, which will be pretty cool, since in my past pregnancies, the anatomy scan was the last time I saw the baby until delivery.
  • @cait53-  yay that’s awesome we have the same due date! Not so awesome about you being a semi- Seminole fan lol.  JK- I’m originally from Jax, FL so my friends from home are all either Gators or Seminoles.  It’s always a fun game! This is my first babe and I’m older too- 40!
  • @karenmarie9 Congrats on your first! So exciting! I’m on the cusp of geri, but my docs are sort of treating my like I am anyway. I’ve never heard so much about my age 🧐

Excited to follow along and share more here with you and the other mamas due around the same time!
