Has anyone been prescribed zoloft?

I have to talk to my Dr on Wed  about possibly getting on Zoloft as this pregnancy has thrown me for a loop and caused my anxiety to worsen. This is my last baby and I want to enjoy my pregnancy but these hormones have made me really nervous and bummy this time around. I feel as though I'm not the mom or partner I was just a few months ago. Looking for any and all insight. I'm scared to start meds because I'm scared of side effects but I also know I won't know if it helps unless I try it. Thank you all in advance for your input.

Re: Has anyone been prescribed zoloft?

  • I was prescribed some a few weeks ago. I haven’t started it yet. My anxiety seems to get worse with every pregnancy. But the last few weeks have been surprisingly smooth so I’m hoping this lasts and I can make it without having to take them. I have changed my diet, cut out most caffeine, limited sugar, and focused on nutrient dense foods and lots of fruit for antioxidants. I’ve added a magnesium supplement, increased Vit D, as my midwife suggested. Also making sure I get enough rest, exercise to help reduce stress, and I listen to positive pregnancy affirmations (Hypnobirthing with Anya has trimester specific ones!) every night before bed. So far, those things have helped! It’s not completely gone, but it’s more manageable.

I’m on Zoloft. I was on it for a year about 7 years ago and started it again a few weeks before getting pregnant. I was going to stop but my OB suggested staying on it since it’s very low risk during pregnancy and the benefits outweigh the risk. It has made such a difference for me, I feel like my old self - happy, chill, not worried about everything. I haven’t experienced any side effects except when I first started taking it I had a slight upset stomach and my anxiety increased which is uncomfortable when it feels the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve but both only lasted for a little bit, I’d say for me it was maybe a week - so totally worth it for me. I have more energy and am more engaged with my family/friends because I’m not stuck in my head all the time. You have to do what’s right for you but it’s had such a positive impact for me. Dealing with anxiety sucks - hope you find relief soon!

ETA I always try to use natural remedies first (I tried many different supplements and lifestyle changes for years) I was prescribed Zoloft 4 times before I finally took it - so I totally understand being hesitant to take it. In my experience, when it comes to anxiety I can honestly say natural remedies don’t come anywhere close to what medication can do.
  • I was on it after my last pregnancy and went on it again during Covid (not currently taking it as my life is way less stressful). I enjoyed being on it! I always was super emotional the first week or so as my body got used to it, and then again coming off of it.

I frequently would think, Wow…I normally wouldn’t be this happy and calm about this situation lol So I could notice the difference, but in a good way.
