Registry Thread

Seems like at least a few of us are starting to think about creating registries soon! STM+ moms, here's where we can offer a ton of ideas, and anyone who has already started investigating:

Where are you registered/where have you registered before?
What items were must-haves?
What items did you receive/register for that weren't that important in the end?

Here we can have a general discussion about the topics above, and then as the weeks go on, we can have dedicated threads for the big categories (car seats, strollers, furniture, bath items, feeding/bottles, etc) to keep things organized and easy to reference.

Re: Registry Thread

  • I just started a registry last week with Amazon, which is where I previously had registries. For Prime members, they offer a 15% discount on eligible items. I don't plan on having a shower, so the registry is totally for my use to keep track of what I'll need and what products I like in each category. It's funny - this will be my third kid but I totally blanked when I started thinking about what I need for a new baby! So the registry categories helped.

There are the obvious must-haves (car seats, strollers, crib, etc) but here are some not-so-obvious items I used before (in most cases, a lot earlier than I thought) that proved to be super important:
    Velcro swaddles
Bottles (I planned to exclusively breastfeed but I had low supply, and we needed to supplement with formula, so having bottles on hand immediately was huge)
    White noise machine
    Blackout curtains
    Monitor
Some sort of bouncer/seat to put them in while awake so I could use the bathroom  :D
Sleepers with zippers - snaps are super annoying
    A TON of burp cloths
    Carrier/ring sling

These are things that I never had a need for (I didn't necessarily have these items, but again, no need):
Bottle warmer (I just used a big plastic cup filled with hot water, then plopped the bottle in for a few minutes to warm)
Wipe warmer - my kids didn't seem to care the wipes were cold

Also - if you're adding clothes to your registry, choose different sizes, and pay attention to the season and how big your kid will be during that season. Have a few newborn-sized items, but chances are they won't wear that size for that long - or maybe at all - so register for more 0-3 month clothes than newborn to start.

I'll try to think of more later :)

I registered at Target and Amazon for both pregnancies.  My SIL offered to throw me a sprinkle, but even without it, I would have registered because: gift bag & completion discount!

    My must haves/most used:
-Car seat/Travel system (this time, we're only updating the infant seat because my son's have expired) **Don't forget an extra base if you have more than 1 vehicle!
    -Chair/bouncy seat
    -Pack N' Play
-Boon Grass drying rack and dishwasher basket for washing bottles/pump parts
    -Breastmilk storage bags
    -Car mirrors
    -Bath seat
-Diaper genie (bought the refills from Amazon subscribe and save)
-Aden & Anais Burpy Bibs and Stroller blanket
-Changing pad (on top of dresser)
    -Diaper Bag
-Ergo carrier (but I recommend having any kind of carrier)
    -Video baby monitor
-Crib Sheets (Do not get a whole bedding set - it's not safe anyway, and is a lot of money for just decoration)
-360 cups (for when they are older.  Don't forget to register for toddler type things that you'll need too!)
    -Carseat/nursing cover
    -Fisher Price spacesaver high chair
-Walk through Baby gates (My house is a 4 level split)
    -Tub spout cover
    -Cool Mist humidifier
-Bottle warmer (I know a lot of people say these aren't necessary, but we used ours a lot for warming up pumped breast milk.  It just felt easier/faster).
    -Earth Mama nipple butter
    -Bathtub toy holder

    Things I didn't use/like:
    -Swing
    -wipe warmer
-Halo swaddles (I just used blankets to swaddle.  I HATED the velcro ones because they were so loud in the middle of the night)
-Nosefrida.  I know some people swear by it, but I used it once and was too grossed out by it
    -infant mittens

Also, don't buy any blankets or baby soap items until after all of your showers.  I received so much baby lotion and shampoo at my showers that I didn't have to buy ANY until my son was 4!!
We have also added things this go around that we want for my son/son's room.  For example 2 Graco Tranzitions Car Seats.  Might as well get the discount on them!

  • @magalina_h Ooh, good call with adding stuff for other kids to the registry!

Hmmm. It’s funny how much I feel like I don’t need or want this time around. Possibly because I got rid of everything…😬
    My must haves:
    -solly wrap and ergo
    -Zutano booties
-Dohm sound machine (the travel one works just as well and is cheaper)
    -halo swaddles
    -zip up sleepers
    -fisher price sit me up
-baby bouncer (or somewhere else to sit safely away from big kids/pets)
    -hands free pumping bras
    -baby bunting
-lovies for when baby is older
    -water wipes for diaper rashes
    -lotrimin for yeast diaper rashes
-fine tooth comb for cradle cap
-I like Baby dove products for my eczema prone kids

    Useful but can live without:
    -nursing pillow
    -exercise gym
    -bassinet
-I actually loved the wipe warmer for my winter babies.

    Oh and triple paste!
  • Aquafor is also a must have. It's like the dad with his Windex on My Big Fat Greek Wedding...it works on everything! 😂

  • -White noise machine
-pack n’ play (this is what baby used till he went to his room)
-nursing pillow ( I had two. One for each place I nursed)
-swaddles (I just used blankets and they doubled as nursing covers when needed)
-bottles (used Dr. Browns and Avent. Preferred Avent. I suggest using whichever bottles are compatible with your pump if you plan on pumping)
    - nipple cream (APNO is life changing. Ask me more about it when it gets closer)
    - more burp cloths then you can imagine
-bandana bibs for all the drool
    - the sleep gowns (so much easier for night changes)
-bottle warmer. Loved it for breast milk
    -freezer bags for milk
    -formula trace container if formula
    -sit me up chair
    - bouncer (I want one that can rock this time as well)
    - diaper cream spatula (I hate it under my nails)
    - nail file

@beckylookatherbump I’m also an APNO lover.
  • @kcf19 it saved my breastfeeding relationship. I was 3 weeks in and still crying with every single feeding. I was ready to quit when I got APNO and we made it 10 months of exclusively breastfeeding (then I got pregnant and lost my supply). I tell every new mom about APNO

I need to try and get it before my due date this time since it can take a couple days to make it. It’s a little pricey but I agree, worth it. I had thrush with my second and it cleared it up for me in one day! Magic.
