1st Tri Recipes, Eats and Cravings

Selfishly posting this thread, but also hoping it can help someone else!

I am having major appetite loss and food aversions to basically everything that isn't cheese, but shocked myself when a bowl of air-fried veggies hit the spot tonight! I am desperate for any meal and snack ideas because my food intake is nowhere near what it should be right now.

What are your current go-to foods? What are you craving?

Re: 1st Tri Recipes, Eats and Cravings

  • Aversion and nausea has already started here...only scrambled eggs and salad are working. With DD2 peanut butter on saltiness crackers and cherries were the only things I could stomach and with DD1 it was only peaches and nectarines. I'll come back in a few weeks and let you know what's working this time:)

  • @Panaceia I did scrambled eggs the other day with some chopped-up bacon and that sat nicely! It's kind of weird, the food I am craving and what I'm able to eat is the complete opposite of what it was with DD. I couldn't tolerate salads last time and I'm loving veggies this time!
  • My nausea hit hard today so not much has sounded good. Orange juice and nutella bread sticks were my go to last pregnancy to help with morning sickness though. Before today I had been eating lots of Costco breakfast burritos and quesadillas. My husband also found a big tub of pretzel bites that have been pretty addicting.
  • @lilpotatomama With my first I would have killed someone for a hamburger...but I'm celiac so there was no place near us that made gluten free burgers and I couldn't handle the smell of cooking meat so I couldn't make my own. We ended up driving like 2 hours one day because we found a winery with gluten free burgers on the menu :) With my second you couldn't pay me to eat a burger!!!!

So far the only thing I’ve been able to keep down has been broth, meanwhile any type of soup at all even just broth made me sick with my son

  • With my daughter, I craved sour and acidic foods.  Sour keys, sauerkraut, pickles, lemons, olives, etc.  Also randomly, red meat, even though I don’t eat meat.  I ended up eating steak a few times but haven’t had it since.  Developed a major aversion to salmon that I only overcame about a year ago.

All I want now are big fresh salads, grilled chicken, Caesar salad, gala apples and avocado.

  • I’m so nauseous and have been vomiting regularly. I’m eating way less than I should be, partly because I have no desire to throw it up. I feel stuck right now and panicking about how I’m going to deal with this and go back to work tomorrow. Sorry, I’m rant/whining. So far, blue Powerade and triscuits are staying down most regularly.
  • @iseewholewheat16 I'm so sorry you are feeling so rough. Have you tried the unisom+B6 combo yet? You might need to do that to function at work.

@Jeenyus I'm very impressed you want salads right now. Lucky 😂. I don't think I've ever craved a salad.
  • Can't say I've been too nauseous (yet?). I am craving certain things though; pickles, peach rings, cheese, and pasta. 🤷

  • Nausea comes and goes and I tend to prefer salty over sweet. I roasted veggies the other night and topped them with cottage cheese. Weird but satisfying.

With my son I ate my weight in oranges. I’m curious if I’ll get obsessed with something again.
  • @iseewholewheat16 I had HG with both of my girls for the entire 9 months. Putting peeled ginger root in boiling water and sipping it throughout the day like tea (hot or cold) was the only thing that helped me survive work. My last pregnancy eating a slice of lemon would give me about 30 minutes nausea free when needed...
  • My son’s first birthday is tomorrow and I made him a small smash cake with frosting. I took a bite of the frosting and was immediately nauseous. So sweets are definitely not my thing right now. 😂🎂
  • @rachelredhead well good aversions aside, happy first birthday to your son, and birth-day to you too! I hope he has a fun filled day.
  • @rachelredhead I hope your son had the best birthday!

Pancakes, I've been dying for pancakes... which is different because I don't normally like breakfast food.

Haven't had any cravings yet! Although I am preferring salty things over sweet things which is very unusual for me! Having a lot of food aversions. I'll feel hungry every once in a while but by the time I make the food and sit down to eat it I feel nauseous and don't want it. Crackers has been the only thing I can stomach some days. Crackers and cottage cheese was my go to meal for a few days just to get some protein in my stomach.
  • Raw green beans and baby cucumbers...never have I ever wanted these things during pregnancy before but yum!
  • Toasted mini bagels w/ cream cheese is my current go-to!

What I can / can’t eat seems to change every two days so far it’s been caprese crostinis, cucumbers with Trader Joe’s green goddess dip, and ramen - none of which I can currently eat anymore 😑

@Panaceia it’s the worst! I have no idea how to food shop right now, I didn’t have any cravings or aversions this early last time I was just sick 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @gembud SO is doing all the shopping and by the time he actually gets the stuff on my list I can't even look at it anymore:/
  • Yeah, that sweet corn I craved so badly yesterday? I don't want any of it today. I am sad.

  • Give me all the buffalo wings. Might be another boy here, that’s all I wanted the last 3 times.

  • @Panaceia I have Celiac too!

Last pregnancy sour cream and onion chips,  applesauce and rice cakes got me through the never ending nausea. This time around rice pudding has been hitting the spot like nothing else!
  • Popsicles. I need all the Popsicles. Except not the red ones, those give me the jitters.
  • @jenis_fan_for_life Yes to the rice pudding!!!! I'm embarrassed how much of it I ate yesterday but it was the only thing that would stay down.
  • Lots of healthy cravings on this board so far. Way to go ladies! I haven’t really had many cravings yet for this pregnancy. With DS I was all about fattoush salad, anything with lemon, pickles etc. With DD I was more about strawberries and oatmeal.  Both previous pregnancies had me somewhat avoiding meat and wanting ice cream.
  • @realhousewife519 I just had fattoush salad last night and immediately thought, “probably gonna need to eat this daily for the foreseeable future.”

We had watermelon mint scocones at my niece’s birthday party last night and it was heaven. Give me all the watermelon.
  • First time ever sending DH out for a pregnancy craving: Mediterranean sandwich from Potbelly. Potbelly is a solid 35 minutes away...luckily he had an errand to run in that area.
  • gembudgembud member
@Patience7150 ohhhh that sounds goooooood. Last night I had falafel sandwich with feta, tzatziki, and romaine and after hearing you say Mediterranean I’m definitely doing that again for lunch

  • I’m craving meat. I was like this with my other two pregnancies too. Either it’s another boy Or my body is just telling me I need protein and iron lol I hardly eat meat since my husbands a vegan and I normally don’t crave it.
  • My regular cravings these days are pickles, green olives, cantaloupe, lemon, extra sharp cheddar cheese, and spicy indian food. Alll the sharp spicy and sour flavors. I like this version of pregnancy so much better than a week or two ago, when all I could stomach was bland starches.
  • I crave baked potatoes now. I could eat them every day.
  • All I have wanted is (cooked) sushi 🍣. California rolls. Boston rolls. Shrimp tempura rolls. Give me the sushi lol.

  • Today I wanted Avocado Sushi, which was great to have a craving because it's been mostly toast with butter lately.

Ordering this made me realize something great .... Pickled ginger might be my new must have in the house! For my nauseau I'll occasionally eat a ginger candy but I can't stand the sugar coating on it. Pickled ginger is much more tolerable to me than the candied!!
  • @babyck373 Oh that is a fabulous idea about pickled ginger! I definitely need to buy that.
  • I crave something different every meal, but the thought of eating it again afterwards makes me nauseous. I’ve been craving mostly savory meals. My appetite is out of control but I can only stomach small meals, which means I’m hungry all the time. If I eat until I’m full I instantly feel like I’ve stuffed myself and am ready to throw up
  • Pickle and cheese sandwiches, cherries, pasta salad, and mushroom anything. Sweets definitely don’t seem appetizing, just give me all the briney, pickled things. Meat is very hit or miss. Ground meat can be ok but something about cutting into a piece of meat just turns my stomach.
  • Cherries and meat are the only things I can stomach right now. And if I eat it today I won't be able to look at it tomorrow. But guys, I'm struggling hard with liquids. I have aversions to basically everything liquid right now. I can manage a sip of ice water every now and then but with all the throwing up I'm worried I'm getting dehydrated quickly. I've tried ginger tea, lemon tea, black tea, Coke, orange juice, carbonated water, flavoured water, lemon water, lemonade, milk, chocolate milk, peach juice, Grape juice, I can't find anything that doesn't make me want to throw up just thinking about it, and forcing it down is so hard. Has anyone found a magical liquid that is working for them right now?
  • @Panaceia so sorry to hear you are struggling with hydration! I would suggest trying both cold and room temperature to see what agrees with you more. I feel like I drank only room temp ginger ale for many many weeks last pregnancy. Also, try drinking with a straw to see if that is more appealing. I’d also suggest pedialyte popsicles in the case that you can keep down something frozen over liquids. Or even Jello? Ginger ale and Gatorade were both super helpful for me last pregnancy. I just took myself on a trip to Target to load up on Ginger ale in cans to keep on within arms reach at all times. Thinking of you! Keep taking good care of yourself ❤️
