Re: WTF Wednesday 6/30

  • Ok, this is a WHOLE long story, so unless you want to delve into the inner workings of a 4 year old's psyche, feel free to skip over, haha.

I think I mentioned yesterday somewhere that my kid all of a sudden has a fear of stuff being sprayed, and that spray could make him sick. He was at school and was evidently triggered by a teacher spraying water, presumably to clean a table or something. He now asks if everything he comes into contact with has been sprayed. Well, it has escalated from there. He refused to go to bed last night because he was afraid of his bed and was afraid to have a nightmare (he had one the previous night, which is extremely rare, and got over it immediately and fell asleep - I'm sure he has no recollection of the nightmare, just that he had one). He eventually agreed to sleep in his old bed about 90 minutes into the whole debacle. He woke up this morning and refused to sit on the couch because he "was scared". I asked what he was scared of, he had no answer. Watched TV standing up awkwardly until he finally agreed to sit with me, and then he sat there for almost an hour, totally fine. It was time to go to school, which he was excited about, but then refused to go, which is not totally uncommon for him. Went to put him in the car, and now he's scared of the car seat. It was a struggle dropping him off.

Anyway, I'm a mixture of freaked out and confused. I don't want this to be the signs of some anxiety problem, but then I'm also thinking this may be him wanting attention? But he definitely was triggered by something to start this all. I emailed the doctor to get his advice, so we'll see. But oh man, is this ever a test of my patience, and I just don't want to do anything to mess him up even more.

Oh yeah - he also is all of a sudden super concerned about me taking someone else's car? We were getting in the car yesterday and he kept asking if that was our car, if I had taken someone else's, etc. No, dude, all our crap is all over the car, just like usual! But he seemed really worried about that, too. What is he hearing, where is this all coming from? Anyway. That's my big gigantic WTF for today.
  • @Lisa3379 kids are so odd! My 3.5 year old gets “scared” of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 🙄 Sorry you are dealing with that. I feel like it makes everything feel just that much more overwhelming to get anything accomplished.

My WTF is just my week in general. I came to my moms house because she has a/c and we were burning up. I had a lot of sewing projects to get done so I packed up everything and the kitchen sink. Including my printer. Well I get here and realize I forgot to pack enough snaps. So I went to town, did a few errands and got the snaps. Got home and realized I also forgot the size of elastic I needed. So I made another trip into town for elastic. I had also brought my printer. So I go to print out my patterns and my stupid printer will not print in black and white because it is out of yellow ink. Yellow. This is a fight I have had with it before and I lose every time. I had grabbed the extra yellow ink from home because I knew it was low. But then I couldn’t find it. So I spent way too much time searching for stupid ink instead of getting stuff done. Gave up. Did some sewing. Bought a new printer because the other one is just a jerk and I’m over it.
I had also ordered an exercise bike from Amazon and it was supposed to be delivered tomorrow. This morning I got an update that it was being delivered today. So my mom kept my kids and I drove to my house (3 hours) and I was frazzled and unprepared so it was just a hot mess. Got the bike. Got it in the house. Left to come back to my moms house and got 15 minutes down the road and was absolutely sure I left my front door open. So I exited the freeway to turn around but got messed up and ended up going the same way. So I had to exit and turn around again. Drove back just to find out that I hadn’t actually left the door open. Oh but I did find the missing yellow ink cartridge in my laundry basket at home.  Long story short: pregnancy brain is kicking my 🍑

  • @Lisa3379 I'm sorry you're dealing with that - it sounds super frustrating. I have no advice except to say maybe kids just get into weird funks? I remember being 7/8 and going through a really anxious phase where I didn't want to be alone.
